Wednesday

It was a good day on Wednesday at Gawler for Angela Modra, picking up two slick winners. Sutton Prince drew wide with box eight for his 400m event and handled it with complete ease. A quick beginning saw him lead in a flying 8.59 first split, quickly putting a space on the field. Sutton Prince continued to roar away as the race went on, before winning by five lengths in a super quick 22.55 (BOD). Two races later it was time Sutton Daisy to strut her stuff. From box seven over the shorter trip, she also led with a fast first split. After creating a nice buffer, she got quite tired in the later stages and had to fend off a fast finishing group of chasers, but she was able to just hang on in 22.89. A terrific day for Angela who has had a great run with her kennel lately!

Cooper Kryan produced a brilliant effort to win at his second start back this preparation. After a solid first up run the week prior, Cooper Kryan was able to come up with box one and a chance to show his best. He rocketed out and led the field easily, travelling quite nicely throughout. Before the turn he had landed himself 6 lengths in the front of the field, before stopping the clock in a quick 22.72, a measly 10 lengths ahead of the second dog. A fantastic win for Cooper Kryan and just another chaser that Tim Irechi has got going particularly well.

The seemingly unbreakable Filthy Phantom added yet another win to his incredible career, getting the job done from box seven. After leaving the boxes well, he showed that he still has plenty of pace to match it with others, as he led in a 8.74 first split which is quite handy. Once he found the front, he simply proved too fast, too strong and too good, running away in 22.86. It is quite incredible what this chaser is able to do at six and half years of age. Hopefully he still has a few more wins yet in him!

Friday

Nicole Price picked up a double on the Friday afternoon card, with Velocity Nikki and Velocity Zaylia both winning. Velocity Nikki was the first as she broke her maiden from box five. After a luckless debut run the week prior, where she still found the line well, she was able to get herself to the lead on Friday after nailing the start. Once she found the lead, she was always travelling well and was unchallenged on her way to 23.12 victory. Velocity Zaylia had put in two monster efforts leading into her race on Friday, but had a tricky box seven with a couple of handy types in the race to deal with. After leaving the boxes fairly, she found herself just worse than midfield and pushing through gaps. A bit of luck midrace saw her get to second with clear air and five lengths to make up on the leader. From there her brilliance kicked in as she flicked through the gears and in the twinkling of an eye, ran past the leader and won in a super impressive 22.70. Bitches in form just keep going on with it so it will be good to see where she goes next.

Vadim Roz picked up a win with Yarramundi Bee Getting the job done from box eight over the 531m journey. It was an intriguing race and Yarramunid Bee had some specking from the wide draw. The fawn bitch left the boxes perfectly and helped herself to a relatively easy lead, setting up a three length margin as they left the first turn. Around the home turn, she went wide, with Roxy Rover making a move behind, but once Yarramundi Bee straightened up again she held a margin and the win. It was a good performance from the young chaser with relatively even splits all round.

Fifty Eight has had a drop back in distance in recent times and again went around in a 400m race on Friday. He drew box two in one of the easier fields he had faced in a while, starting a warm favourite as a result. He wasn’t able to lead the field, which he rarely is, but he did land a bit closer as a result. Sitting a close third coming out of the first turn, he threatened as a big danger. Before they hit the turn, he quickly went through the gears and found the lead, he had to contend with a good challenge from Quokka Two but he just proved too good, winning in a best of the day 22.68. Certainly a good reward for some consistent form!
