Six Feature Finals On Stunning Angle Park Card

One of the nights of the year awaits at Angle Park with the 12 race card set to hold 6 feature race finals, as part of the Festival Of Fire series.

Highlighted on the stellar program are the finals of the ‘Blaze’, ‘Ashes’, ‘Bonfire’, ‘Spark’, ‘Inferno’ and ‘Flame’. Each of these finals carries significant prize money, with the races created for South Australian trainers.

One of the more intriguing finals will be ‘The Blaze’ and it is the main event over the 730m distance. Headlining the event is the Gavin Harris trained Lena Jinx, who will likely start favourite, with the race being her first since obliterating the track record and announcing herself as a future star at her last start.

Away from Lena Jinx, there will be some stern opposition and one of those aiming to bring her down will be the Jason Newman trained Redshift Uniform, with the Mount Gambier based bitch bringing with her some excellent form.

She has been dominating down at Mount Gambier, winning three of her last four starts, which includes a flying 42.96 victory at her last start, breaking the illustrious 43 second barrier, which surprised Newman.

“Her form couldn’t be any better really. She just missed the jump at Warrnambool which was a pity. But a few weeks ago she really powered away from Under Siege when she had every chance to run her down, and then last going 42.96 is crazy.” said Newman

“Only Zipping Neutron has ever got below or even close to breaking 43 at The Mount,so she’s actually run a serious time on Sunday. She broke Emani Bale’s old track record easily, it was 43.22.”

It has been quite the rise for Redshift Uniform, with the Barcia Bale x Taylor Made Star whelping having found a new lease of life under the care of Newman and his team. Since arriving at his kennels, she has won 12 races from 18 starts and picked up over $20,000 in prize money.

This Thursday will be her toughest test yet, taking on one of the future stars of the sport and venturing away from her home track, but if she replicates her current form, then there is nothing to say that she can’t compete well. The box draw has been kind to her, with box 3 to greet her on Thursday, whilst Lena Jinx has drawn box eight. Newman is well aware of her ability, but is unsure about how she will handle herself on Thursday.

“The question is does she jump away well and can she put herself into the race early. She’s a typical stayer, does stuff all during the week, trots about and is just ready to roll come raceday.” said Newman.

It will be an exciting night for local Becc Weinert. Who has both dogs she trains and dogs she owns in different finals on the night.

One that she trains is Weblec Flame, who will line up from the converted red box in the final of The Flame, which has a cool $10,000 first prize awaiting the winner.

A clean beginning from box two in the heat last week paved the way for the Weblec Flame’s victory, with the brindle dog coming out well and leading all the way in a handy 30.95, which was most pleasing for Weinert.

“I was so happy once he led clearly, I knew it would be hard to catch him, he just timed everything perfectly. I was very happy with the heat win.”

He has been a very honest and consistent dog, having raced at Angle Park week to week for some time now, but still putting in good runs. The week has been good for the son of Kinloch Brae and Weblec Rose, which has given Weinert a sense of confidence.

“He has been extremely cheeky and playful this week, so if that’s anything to go by then he will be right in it.” said Weinert

Whilst box one will bring Weblec Flame right into the race, he will need to jump quickly to handle some early speed to his outside, but if he gets it right early, then he’s right in the race.

“Not too sure, I believe he has a good chance, he has been racing very consistently over the last couple of months and he walked away with a load of confidence from last week's win. I just want him to get around safely!” said Weinert

Racing will start at 6:37pm on what will be a cracking night.
