5 races were run over the 400m distance at Gawler on Tuesday and all races were won in times faster than the normal time of around 23.00 seconds. Two of the results came within a whisker of the track record of 22.27 on the lightning fast surface.

In the Arclight Photography Stake, Mombasa Boy from box 1 led throughout to score a 4 length win in a blistering 22.36 seconds. The placing’s were run in race book order, with Specify (box 2) running second for Kim Johnstone and Bogie Emerald (3) third for Ben Rawlings.

Mombasa Boy is trained at Gawler River by Richard Pearce and is raced in partnership with Narvette Treloar. It was the seventh win for the son of Cosmic Rumble from Who Wot Where whelping that Richard and Narvette bred and reared. Who Wot Where had an injury restricted career, and is a sister to the well performed Where’s Cisco and Where’s Pancho.

Richard reported that Mombasa Boy inherited his mother’s brilliant early speed, and runs best when he can jump well and go straight to the “bunny”, which he was able to do on Tuesday. This was the fastest time Mombasa Boy has recorded but Richard was not surprised that he could run that time. However on the downside, Richard reported that the dog has trouble running out the distance over 500m, even though he has won over that distance. And on a positive note, Richard and Narvette have another litter from Who Wot Where that is just 2 weeks old. With a team of 9 in work, Richard still enjoys his involvement in the industry.

Also running the same 22.36 secs winning time was Aston Odin in the Bunyip Mixed Stake. Aston Odin trailed the leader Avid Tyson most of the race and it was only in the final strides that he was able to get the verdict by just a neck. Avid Tyson is the current record holder over this distance and was unlucky in running such a time to not win.

Aston Odin was not the only winner for Troy on the day, as he was later successful with Kalden Gambino. Angela Modra also had a good day out with Alhanna winning in 22.56 secs and Power Merc scoring in the Macro Meats Stake.

Some racing dates will be affected soon, so please check on gawlergreyhounds.com for a current calendar. Until advised, racing will continue on Tuesday afternoons, with the next Friday afternoon meeting scheduled for the 13th of June.
