Fantastic Radley explosive first up
Tuesday (Straight Track)
Sebastyan Prince finally broke through for a well deserved maiden victory, after a couple of nail biting seconds in previous starts. He was an incredibly short $1.15 favourite, particularly for a 6 start maiden, however he was able to ride a couple of early bumps before showing his superiority midrace and putting the field away. Well done to the prince and Wendy Sebastyan, hopefully a few more wins for this fella.
A couple of trainers had winning doubles for the day with Dave Peckham one of those. Denzell Bale was the first winner with a really nice return after scoring his fifth box 1 in his last 6 starts. He used the red perfectly to muster and lead the red hot field, before powering away in a best of day 16.70. Shim Cam then won the next race from box 8. He came out slowly but got motoring mid race and was just too good in the end, clocking a nice 16.88.
Tony Rasmussen also had a double on the card. Sunday Sip was the first winner and he pulled off a small betting plunge, after crossing over from box 8 with great intensity, before Spring Line landed her first win for the year, proving too good over the 300m trip.
The super honest Victa Oreo was able to show that maiden win wouldn’t be his only one, as he landed win number at start 30. He was slowly away but with some fortune mid race, he was able to pounce on the lead and score. He is only limited but tries his big heart out, and sometimes that’s all you need to do! Well done to the big Oreo.
Dog to follow: Aston Mitchell - Only had his second start on Tuesday after winning his debut in moderate time at Mount Gambier. First up at the track is always difficult particularly for a young dog, but I thought he handled it quite well. Came out slowly but really took it to the red hot favourite midrace, before going down by a couple of lengths. Has drawn the red on Tuesday and will certainly run well.
Sunday (1-Turn)
First meeting of the month and it started with the unveiling of a few youngsters in race 1. Greg Board had two of the first starters which are Aston Dee Bee x Spring Glass. Spring Cocktail was one of them and had some early market support from box 5. It was easy to see why when the boxes opened, as the fawn bitch came out beautifully to lead by 4 lengths hitting the turn. She never looked in any danger as she landed a neat 22.58 win, as her sister Spring Flute ran home to get second.
We saw the return of one the best dogs in the state - Fantastic Radley, who returned from a short NSW stint. He started favourite over the slightly unsuitable 530m trip, but when he landed near the lead he looked very ominous. He put on the jets as they hit the turn, before roaring away and winning in a flying 29.59. An awesome return and he looks set for a big campaign!
Rosie Red had an enjoyable return to form over the 455m trip in a strong race. She had been struggling to win over the ‘500’ at Angle Park, but ran the 455m trip out strongly, to win a slick 25.40, with a very sharp 7.98 first split. Well done Rosie.
Race 9 produced a thrilling finish, to a race that looked over before it was run, with Zipping Hero starting $1.15. It didn’t go all the way of the favourite as Edgy Reggie was able to lead from box 1 and keep kicking. Favourite punters were having heart palpitations the entire way up the straight, but Zipping Hero got in by the smallest possible margin in a quick 22.20
Dog to follow: Terrific Tyla - A bitch that clearly has ability, but I thought her run on Sunday was an improved effort and quite good at that. She had no luck from box 5 over the short trip, copping a couple of bumps and getting squeezed out. She was still able to pick herself up and run on to get within 2 lengths of the winner. Suspect she is back next week and will be tough to beat.
