Fabulous Ebony Wins on Debut
It was a perfect night for racing on Sunday Night at Gawler. We got to see another action packed ten race program and we kicked things off with the Maiden over 400 meters. Small trainer Darren Camporeale had his first starter Fabulous Ebony beginning from box five. She showed plenty of early pace and she managed to run an 8.90 first split. She maintained a healthy lead throughout the race and went on to score a strong victory on debut. She ran a time 23.45 over the 400 meters and beat home Ritzy Star by four lengths. Camporeale only has a small team of greyhounds so he would obviously be excited about the ability of his new youngster.
In race three we saw Springvale Cher greet the judge first for trainer Michael Giniotis. Springvale Cher has had 51 career starts for 3 wins and 26 placings. She has always been a nice honest chaser and she was pretty impressive on Sunday when she led all of the way from box one. In the race after we saw Big Prediction get up for small trainer Ross Panagiotou. Big Prediction hadn’t won a race since February before Sunday Night. He had been showing signs of returning to winning form over the last few weeks. He chased down the early leader Breakfast Creek to run over the top and run a time of 23.32. It was great to see some of the smaller trainers have success on Sunday Night.
In race five Gorgeous George made it career win number nine for trainer Darrell Johnstone. He has now won four of his last six and is definitely a greyhound to follow at the moment. Nicole Price continued her winning form when the ex-Queenslander Patched took out race number six to score his second win since coming to South Australia. In the next race we saw Daisy’s Fernando have his first start in South Australia for Kiah Hurley. He led all of the way over 531 to register a time of 31.52. Luxury Rocks scored her second win in South Australia for trainer Vadim Roz in the grade 6 series final holding on to beat a fast-finishing Victa Jess. Its Smudgy made it four wins in a row in the last race for in form trainer Clint Trengove.
Racing returns to Gawler on Wednesday afternoon and Sunday night this week. We are getting closer to the Gawler Gold Cup. The heats for the cup will be run on Monday the 18th of October with the final on Sunday the 24th of October.
