FABREGAL WINS 2017 CLASSIC BET MOUNT GAMBIER CUP
Robyn Mackellar’s star chaser Fabregal won another feature race when she took out the 2017 Classic Bet Mount Gambier Cup run in the State’s South East yesterday. The daughter of Fabregas and Allinga Aye Jay had an outstanding 2016 and kicked of 2017 in fine style with a dominant display. After an early battle to find the front Fabregal raced away from her rivals winning by 2 lengths in a slick 29.78 for the 512m journey. Robyn Mackellar was wrapped with her performance on the presentation dais advising that the Mt Gambier Cup was a race that she had tried hard to win in the past and that Fabregal had allowed her to tick this one of the bucket list. Fabregal has now won 34 races from her 58 starts including 18 placings and prizemoney just under $160,000.
In terrific news for the Mt Gambier GRC, GRSA Chairman Michael Fabbro announced yesterday that as of next year the Mount Gambier Cup Series will be increased to Listed status with the first prize increased from $7,000 to $15,000 which is reflective of the hard working committee and growing South East region.
