Exciting sprinter Ernie Bung Arrow kept his unbeaten record intact last night at Angle Park with a brilliant display of front running chasing in the $6,875 Champion Puppy Final. Working his way nicely through the grades winning his first five starts, Ernie Bung Arrow had his toughest test last night where he faced boom chaser Dustnado however any fears of the picket fence form being broken were dispelled shortly after the start. He showed blistering speed from box 8 to lead easily leaving the front straight and opened up down the back to be out in front by 4 – 5 lengths. Turning for home he got a little tired however went onto win by 3 ½ lengths running brilliant sectionals of 4.38, 16.81 and an overall of 29.96 for the 515m journey. Trainer Ken Gill from Lewiston was ecstatic with the win which provided a real boost for him as he hadn’t been in the best of health recently. Dustnado was far from disgraced in second place who showed tremendous courage to keep battling away throughout the event with Emerley Zodiak continuing his consistent form in third place. Last year the Champion Puppy was won by Sometimes Speedy who has gone on to be one of the best chasers in the land winning the Group 1 Futurity so who knows where these exciting prospects will end up.
