Sunday night greyhound racing was back at Gawler this past weekend and we saw a massive twelve race program at the venue. As usual successful Lewiston trainer Nicole Price had a very strong team of greyhounds engaged. The highlight of her night definitely had to be in race five when her talented greyhound Enthusiastic destroyed his opposition. He jumped very well from box two and found the front early in the race. He really started to put in some big strides turning into the home straight and defeated the second greyhound Saint Candy by a big five lengths and three quarters. The most impressive thing about his run was the lightning quick time of 22.33 which is just shy of the eight year old 22.27 track record set by Avid Tyson in 2014. The track has been very fast the last few months and if that trend continues a few of the long standing track records at the venue may be in danger. Nicole trained three winners overall on Sunday night. One of her other two winners occurred in race three when Selmo finished off strongly to defeated Honest Frank by two lengths. Selmo produced a time of 22.78. Her treble of winners was completed in race twelve when Patched led all of the way from box six to run a time of 22.92.

Riverland trainer Vern Anderson made two trips to Gawler during the week with a few of his greyhounds. He would have some success during the Wednesday afternoon race meeting when his greyhound Nangar Ellie would line up in race ten as the odds on favourite from box eight. She would dominate the other three runners in the field and win the race by an impressive eleven and a half lengths. She ran a solid time of 30.80. She would revisit Gawler on Sunday night and run over 531 meters. She would lead all of the way again from box seven and run a quicker time of 30.69. Vern does a lot of travelling and is a frequent visitor at Gawler Greyhounds. It looks like he has found a handy greyhound who put in impressive back to back performances.

Greyhound racing returns to Gawler on Wednesday afternoon and on Sunday night. We will see a few more 531 meter races over the next few weeks with a lot of greyhounds from all over the state preparing for the popular Gawler Produce series. Heats will be run on Friday the 10th of June with the Semi Finals nine days later on Sunday the 19th of June. The $22,000 Gawler Produce Final will be run on the 26th of June. The series is always very entertaining so definitely mark those dates in your calendar.
