Dolan’s Duo Fire At The Straight Track
Tuesday Meeting (Straight track)
Jason Dolan helped himself to a pair of winners on Tuesday for our straight track meeting in pleasant but windy conditions.
Transplant King has returned well from a spell and continued that form with a sharp win over the 300m distance. He looked well placed in a grade 6 and started short odds as a result, but he still had to go and get the job done. It was a slightly slow start from the black dog, but he was afforded plenty of time to balance up and go through his gears. With 100m left in the race, he still had a bit of work to do but it was at that point where he started to power over the top, quickly taking ground off the leader and going past him to win in a fast 16.68.
Carry On Jack returned to the racetrack for the first time since February, lining up in a grade 5 series final over the 300m sprint. From box five, he came out quickly and went straight to the early lead. After crossing over to the rail, he was always going to take some catching and that proved to be the case, running away for a strong 16.52 win, which was also the best of the day. An excellent return and he should be in for a good preparation.
Robert Barclay had his first runner for a couple of months, and it proved to be a successful return, with Legendary Value winning impressively in a mix of 4/5 from the 300m distance. It was a real turn of form from Legendary Value, who has been finding it tough at Gawler in recent times, but a change of kennel and track seems to have been the trick. From box two, she stepped well and went straight to the rails. She was given plenty of room to move, with the rest of the field getting quite wide. At no point did Legendary Value look in trouble, as she strolled along in front and won in a slick 16.76. A nice confidence boosting win for the black bitch and we will see her back up the straight tomorrow!
Friday Meeting
Harry Trengove does an outstanding job with the few dogs that he has in work and he had another winner, which started our Friday meeting off. Cabao Marble has had two starts since joining Harry’s Kennel and has now won both. From box one in a grade 6 over the 395m trip, the brindle bitch started well from the inside, but did have to do some early work to push through along the rail. After holding the front around the turn, she got a couple of lengths clear and was doing things nicely. The race was all but shot at the top of the straight and Cabao Marble simply shot away and won with total ease. The winning time was 22.64 and the margin close to five lengths, a terrific win and very well deserved. He’s an underrated trainer Harry!
Kevin Bewley had a successful venture of the Bridge on Friday, landing a tidy winner in the form of Ashby Jazzy, who had her first start under Kevin’s care, having originally been trained in New South Wales. The daughter of Head Bounce and Miss Piggy started favourite from box two in the grade 6 race over the 395m trip and things looked a bit dicey after she was slowly away and a few lengths off the lead early. With plenty of room on the rails to work with, she made some ground heading into the turn and with a bit of fortune around the bend, she went straight through to the lead. After capitalising on the small amount of luck, she booted clear at the top of the straight, with the race all but over. It was comfortable work late for her, as she won by three lengths in 22.84. A perfect start for her here in South Australia and hopefully it’s the start of a few more wins for her!
