Greyhound Racing SA has made a $4000 donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities 2023 Christmas Appeal following a successful ‘Charity Chase’ conducted over the month of December.

The new GRSA initiative saw $150 donated for each greyhound that won out of box one at Angle Park. December’s 17 winners from box one resulted in $2550 going straight to the families of seriously ill children who are accommodated at Ronald McDonald House.

Ronald McDonald House provides a home-away-from-home to those families who may have travelled to the CBD for a child’s treatment and need to remain close by.

To help the charity reach their fundraising goals, GRSA extended this initial donation to $4000 to cover even more nights of accommodation for local families.

“We’re delighted to support the important work of Ronald McDonald House Charities, particularly at a time of year that is all about bringing families together,” said GRSA CFO Heath Pocock.

“Our new Charity Chase initiative will see GRSA support a number of worthy causes over the next twelve months, with a particular focus on South Australian charities.

“The greyhound racing community is made up predominately of families, so this cause really resonated with us and we’re proud to have been able to make an impact in this way.”

The donation was supported by a visit to the House’s Christmas Party by furry friends Mick and Bert, two retired greyhounds from Greyhounds as Pets who received plenty of cuddles and pats from the children and their families.

Ronald McDonald House Charities’ Head of Fundraising and Marketing, Asha Mein said “while the pats were welcome, the donation will make even more of an impact and will help us deliver this essential health service to the families of seriously ill and injured children in South Australia.”
