Darcy Dakota Proves Far Too Fast In Summer Derby

Sunday Meeting
One of highlight programs for the year was held on Sunday night, with the finals of the 2024 Fischer Motors Summer Oaks & Derby. Terrific weather greeted participants and strong racing was had throughout.

The first of the two features was the Derby, which went the way of the Kerry Stag trained Darcy Dakota, who has in recent times proven himself to be one of the quickest chasers in the state, with a mesmerising first and second split in his arsenal. Coming out of box two over the 455m distance, which both features are run over, he took a couple of strides to muster up and had to do so with pressure to his outside. Despite the early heat coming on top of him, he was still able to burn to the lead and once he found the front, he let rip with a terrific burst of speed, which allowed him to establish a clear margin around the turn. With a dominant lead set up at the top of the straight, he wasn’t getting caught and went on to win by two lengths in an impressive 25.56. With that level of speed that he possesses he’s going to be some sort of chance when the Murray Bridge Cup rolls around shortly!

It was no surprise to see Tracie Price take out one of the features, which he did with his highly impressive bitch Minnie’s Me Mum. The black bitch drew box eight for the final, which turned out to be a blessing. It was a hot go early, with much of the field showing great early pace and all of them working hard to find the front. With such a strong go down the back, things got tight and this allowed Minnie’s My Mum to work around them and find the lead as they went into the turn. At the top of the straight, she was looking strong and really extended down the home straight, going on to win by two lengths in 25.71. That win capped off yet another brilliant night for Tracie, who has simply dominated in recent times at Murray Bridge. He trained four winners for the night, which included Wild Milly who won the Anniversary Cup over the 530m trip, Compton Copy who won her maiden and Wild Banker who took out the fast class event over the sprint trip.

A brilliant night all round and it goes to show how strong some of the younger chasers are in the state.

Tuesday Meeting
Beautiful weather conditions greeted participants for our weekly straight track meeting which was enjoyed by all.

Michelle Moon picked up a training double, which was her first double up the straight track. Disco Zorro (Shima Shine x Spring Lilac) started a well supported favourite in his maiden over the 300m distance, following a strong debut effort last week. From box one this week, the black dog came out a tad slowly and settled a few lengths off the leaders, but with a clear run along the rail midrace, he started to power through his gears and with 100m to go he quickly went to the front, before surging away late to win by a couple of lengths in 16.96. One of the straight track favourites in Yarramundi Garth, who would be one of the biggest dogs in the country, weighing in at a tick over 42kg, then made it two for Moon. From box eight over the short trip, he came out slowly which he normally does, but showed some field smarts and stayed away from trouble, giving himself plenty of time to wind up. It wasn’t until 100m to go that he even looked a remote threat of winning, but he slowly kept building up, until letting rip late and storming home towards the line, winning in the last bound. A terrific win to round off a very nice double!

Tony Nobes enjoyed a winning afternoon at the Bridge, with Give Me Room taking out the last of the day rather impressively. From box four over the 350m trip, the black bitch stepped nicely and went straight to the early lead. After getting to the front, she continued to run the field along and was doing a good job of that. With 100m to go, she went further in front again and had the race sewn up. The end result was a comfortable four length in a very tidy 19.35, making it a worthwhile trip up for Tony.
