Curl’s Victory Rockets up the Murray Bridge Straight
Tuesday (Straight track)
Sharyn Gray ventured to the Murray Bridge straight on Tuesday with a few of her chasers and picked up two winners for the card. Destini Firey finally broke through for her second career win after showing some consistent form lately. From box two over the 300m trip, she was slowly away and a few lengths off the leader early. Thankfully for her, she was able to get plenty of room to work with early and started to wind up midrace. It took a while, but she really let loose late and went straight past the leader, winning easily in a handy 17.03, which was certainly a very deserving victory. Sharyn had to wait for her second winner, until the last race to be precise, but it was then that Pure By Design produced an excellent effort to score well. She is generally a slow beginner but the week prior she came out much better and lost by a pimple, but this week she began beautifully again and led in a red hot 4.39 first split, which allowed her to find a clear lead. The outside fence is where she wanted to race and she stayed up there for the entire race and despite getting a bit weary late, she hung on for a slick 16.83 win. If she keeps those box manners then it won’t be long before she wins again!
Kevin Bewley has been having some success lately at the straight and again he picked up a training double for his efforts. Velocity Corene was first up for him and she showed the importance of early speed, when she fired out of the boxes over the 300m journey. After she found the front from box two, it was rather effortless for the black bitch, as she led comfortably the entire race and won in 17.00. That was her second win in a row and it goes to show what confidence can do for bitches. It was in the next race that Imperial Master stepped up to the plate for Bewley, with the white and black dog also looking to make it two in a row after winning three days earlier. He too, like Velocity Corene, had box two over the short trip and his box manners were at his very best, jumping well and finding himself right on the speed. It was a two dog war in front with Imperial Master matching it with the red hot favourite. The finish line was fast approaching and it was Imperial Master who proved too strong and winning in 17.06. A great day out for Kev!
Curl’s Victory has been in great form lately up the straight track and that trend continued with the black bitch proving a class above her rivals for the 300m fast class race. She’s only 25kg but goes like a rocket and when the boxes opened, she jumped straight to the front. It was a show of blistering speed from the daughter of Magic Sprite, as she roared away for a sizzling best of day 16.52 win, three lengths ahead of her nearest competitor. If she maintains this form, then she won’t be getting beaten too often.
Dog to follow: Go Go Snow - She’s got some pace, the white and fawn daughter of Orson Allen. Whilst her career thus far has not been overly eye-catching, she is getting better each start and did so again with a terrific third on Tuesday. From box six, she jumped well and found the front over the 350m distance and she was doing it very well in front. She led for a long way before just getting overpowered late by the smart Garside. She’s on the way up Go Go Snow and I will be surprised if she isn’t winning again soon.
Friday (1-Turn)
On another red hot day at the Bridge, we started the racing early which was no doubt well received by everyone!
Matty Payne made the most of the early start, claiming two winners for the morning. Paramount Rose knocked over her grade 6 for the 395m start, with a professional effort from box four. She has always shown a little bit of ability but went to another level on Friday. It was a kind draw for her with the dog outside running plenty of cover, but a quick beginning meant that it didn’t matter. It was smooth travelling from the brindle bitch in front and she didn’t look like getting caught, winning with a slick 5.11-22.42 gallop. Neangar Boy later took out the last race for Matty, with the black dog getting a well deserved win after some consistent form. It was the ‘fast class’ race of the day but the field had been shortened with scratchings and we just saw the three chasers go around. From the middle draw, Neangar Boy jumped as well as he had before and helped himself to a cheap lead. From there it was rather comfortable for the strong dog as he strolled away and won in a best of the morning 22.21.
Clint Trengove had to make the early morning commute from the north of Adelaide but it was worthwhile as he landed two winners. Snake Fist (Barcia Bale x Jeepers) broke his maiden status and showed a bit of class in doing so. He had box two for the race but after he left the boxes, he found himself a few lengths off the early lead. With a bit of jamming in front, he was able to switch off heels and go around the jamming pair up front, quickly picking up a few lengths around the turn. It was all over from there as he strolled home in 22.91. Sambuca Talks was the other winner for Clint and this dog has been terrific since returning from a lengthy spell. After running some great races at Gawler, he came down to the Bridge for the first time and had box six to give him something to think about over the 455m trip. When the boxes opened he was led early, but was allowed room to get through his gears up the back straight, which proved quite important. Around the turn, he darted back to the inside rail and made his move to the front. Once he got there he did start to feel the pinch, but ability got him home, as he won narrowly in a neat 25.75.
Damian Smith just has a few dogs in work and one of those is the smart Garside, who did the wonderful double of two wins in a week at the Bridge. After winning well on Tuesday up the straight track, he followed up with a winning effort from box one over the 395m trip Friday. Acceleration and speed was on the show from the 30kg dog, when he missed the start but quickly mustered his way to the front. From there he just proved too sharp and too speedy, winning well in 22.46. That’s now 8 from 24 career starts for the son of Magic Sprite.
A good morning all round!
Dog to follow: Snake Fist - It really was a classy effort to break his duck on Friday. Although his winning time of 22.91 wasn’t fast, it was a smart chasing effort that allowed him to avoid trouble and in the end win quite easily. His prior form was very sound and I think with a bit of natural improvement, then he’s going to be a dog who is always around the mark.
