Wednesday
It was an enjoyable Wednesday afternoon at Gawler, with three trainers collecting a double on the card.

The Don Turner trained Under Siege got the day rolling, with an explosive victory over the 643m distance. She landed a bit closer early than she normally does and found herself just a few lengths off the leader. Down the back straight, she really wound through the gears, before pouncing on the leader around the home turn and storming home to win, running a fast 37.73.

The promising Information later made it two in a row, when dealing with box four over the 400m trip. She was slow to leave early but used her track smarts to find a clear run on the rail, before powering through to the front. It was race over from there as she won comprehensively in 23.00.

Brenda Oakey had two impressive winners that were both first up for her small kennel. Fiorano was first and he brought some brilliant Victorian form with him, having had his last start in a semi-final of the Launching Pad.

From box eight on Wednesday over the short trip, he was last to leave as an odds-on favourite, but his class very quickly came to the fore, as he powered around the outside. He had found the front around the home turn, before motoring home to win a flying 22.58, which was the best of the day.

Next up for Brenda was Zipping Mork who had some handy Rockhampton form behind him. The black dog was a bit tardy to go over the 531m trip but despite this, had got himself into third down the back straight. Things were looking unlikely down the back, but approaching the home turn, he had moved right up behind the leaders before pouncing late and running over the top in 31.58.

Tony Nobes was the other trainer to pick up a double for the afternoon, with the first being Dazzling Cruiser, who was simply brilliant on her way to a red-hot win over the 531m trip. In what was a strong field, particularly for a Wednesday, Dazzling Cruiser wasn’t given much of a hope from box seven, but things were quickly looking good when she flew out of the boxes and led with a fast first split.

Into the first turn, she had set up a handy lead and was looking great out in front. She was expected to get tired, but she never did, as she kept powering away for a completely dominant 30.68 victory!

Sweet Sensation then completed the afternoon, giving Tony the double. From box five over the 400m distance, she came out quickly and got herself to an early lead. Once there, she was never in any danger, as she stormed away for a massive five length win in 22.80.

Friday
Ben Rawlings had a big afternoon on Friday picking up three winners on the card.

The handy Pockets Watson won easily over the 531m trip to get the ball rolling, winning his grade 6 event by five lengths. From box eight, he glided over straight to the front and that was the last the others saw of him, as he ran away for a quick 31.03 win.

The highly promising Could Be King showed how good he is, with an airborne victory in the next race over the 531m distance. From box five, he was a bit slow to go and found himself last early and stayed in that spot for the first half of the race! The next part of his race was simply breathtaking, as he stormed to a clear lead, before carving away late, winning by six lengths in 30.58.

Agent Four later gave Rawlings the treble, with a quick 22.73 win over the 400m trip to cap a great day for the team, who have plenty to look forward To with what is next for Could Be King.

Tim Ieraci was another who had a terrific afternoon at Gawler, landing a training double. Elegant Rosie was the first of the two, as she put together a gritty effort over the 400m trip. After being fair away, she found herself in third down the back straight, before making a powerful move around the turn. It didn’t take her long to storm right over the top, before running away late in 23.20, which was arguably one of her best career runs!

The improving Rocamadour made the most of box two over the short distance. After stepping well, he sat outside of the leader. Down the back straight, his long stride had taken him to the lead and he was looking alright! He got a tad weary late, but held on in 22.96.
