Tuesday (Straight Track)

Just the 10 races on Tuesday up the straight but the meeting certainly threw up some surprise results.

Ed Kowalewski was able to get himself on the winners list when his dog Winlock At Large broke through for his first South Australian victory. After a couple of handy placings in recent times, he was certainly due to break through but had to earn it on Tuesday. He jumped well from box seven before receiving plenty of pressure mid race, however he was able to fend off the challengers and grip on by a head. A deserving breakthrough for him and Ed!

Clearly the most eye-catching performance on the card came from the Jack Trengove trained Bullying who was brilliant in his dominant four length victory. He’s come over from Horsham where he has shown some ability, but after an unlucky first up run in SA at Gawler, it wasn’t clear how he was going to match up over here. After being sent out a $3 even favourite on Tuesday, he was able to glide over perfectly from box eight before clicking through his gears midrace. As the race went on, he got further in front before stopping the clock at an electric 16.54 (BOD). It was a fantastic win and on that he will be winning plenty at Murray Bridge!

Sebastyan Prince showed his true ability on the last of the day with a dominant 19.15 win over the 350m trip. He’s been running well over the short trips elsewhere but showed his strength and love for the straight track with the run on Tuesday. He had box eight and only left fairly, but handled himself well and stayed wide until he finally worked to the front, before letting his strength do the talking as he got right away from his opposition. It was a fantastic run and good to see what he can do. Wendy Sebastyan also had a training double for the card with Curious Nick winning impressively earlier in the day.

Dog to follow: Boundin’ Baby - Made her return after a 6 week spell, and I thought it was a terrific run against quality opposition. She had box one, but was against some straight track weapons in Curls Victory and Up There Billy, but that didn’t seem to worry her. She jumped well, but was slightly outpaced by Curls Victory midrace, however Boundin’ Baby was able to come back at her to go down by a length in quick time. She has clearly enjoyed her freshen up and I would expect to see her winning very soon.

Friday (1-Turn)

Another fantastic Murray Bridge program awaited on Friday and the racing did not let us down.

Ryan Tugwell landed an early winner with the homebred Finiss Surprise winning brilliantly at just his second start. He was unlucky on debut and after drawing box eight on Friday, he handled it perfectly. He left the boxes fairly before getting moving midrace and putting a gap on the others as he hit the turn, before running away with a very strong 22.30 (BOD), with the time made even better given his ordinary first split. A terrific win and he will most certainly be winning a few races, particularly if he keeps drawing wide.

Tony Ramussen had a double for the day with Most Wanted and Jalapeno Lad both winning quite nicely. Most Wanted showed plenty of smarts in breaking through for his second career win. He was last away before mustering hard through a gap, he then ducked to the rail and received some luck, before taking the rails run and hitting the front. After that he powered and won in 22.52, but the win was quite eye-catching, particularly with the strength he showed at the end. Jalapeno Lad continued his terrific form, proving too strong from box eight. He worked hard early to cross but that didn’t bother him, as he won in 25.91. He’s going really well at the moment!

Oswald Chegia had another good day with three winners for the card. Fantastic Faith was the first as she enjoyed her first venture to the 530m trip. She led well but with Run Like Jess landing in second, she was going to have to be strong, and that she was! She won by three lengths and ran a cracking 29.98 in the process. Fantastic Keary was the next winner as he won comprehensively in a fast 25.38 over the 455m trip before Razzle Darryl proved too slick in the next, clocking 25.59. A great day for Oz!

Dog to follow: Banjo Bert - He’s been doing some recent racing at Warrnambool against some good dogs, but just finding that a bit tough. His run back at Murray Bridge on Friday was a ripper, as he was tightened for room early and wanted to get wide from box one. He had to cover the most ground in the race and was only two lengths off the winner in Bruce Mick Glenn. It was a good run and Banjo Bert will be lobbing into the winners list again soon.
