Charlee’s Misty ready for an almighty challenge
A monster night awaits at Angle Park on Thursday with the final of the National State Sprint Championship to be run, following two fantastic heats which were staged last Thursday. Both of the heats were taken out by Came And Went and Victa Grosso who will make an imposing presence come Thursday night, particularly with Came And Went drawing the coveted box one. It’s a very strong field for the prestigious event, with Tony Rasmussen getting three runners through to the final whilst Troy Murray also has two in the event. In a field loaded with dogs, there will be one bitch in the event to try and take down the boys, and her name is Charlee’s Misty who is currently being trained by Vadim Roz. She has only been with Vadim for a short period of time after her owner Ed Burrett suggested a kennel change might suit.
“July he asked me if I wanted to have a go with her, he just wanted to have a break from training. He said he thinks the kennel change would suit her. He did a really good job with her.” said Vadim
It was after a good run for third the week before, that Vadim decided to have a go at the race, with her breeding future also in the back of his mind.
“She’s definitely coming out nice and that’s important. I asked him if he wanted me to go for the race and he said do whatever you want to do. I’m still learning about her but I was very impressed with the run before when she got rundown by On The Tequila. I just thought if she keeps improving and you only need to run top four to make the final, and if you make the final then it’s good for her breeding portfolio.”
Charlee’s Misty ran third in her heat last week after showing some early pace but Vadim is realistic about her chances on Thursday, but like always, anything can happen in Greyhound racing.
“It’s going to come down to luck, I would have liked to have drawn a bit closer to the rail because you have speed from Troy’s dogs (Came And Went & Shall Not) and then you have the strong dogs. A good result will be a top three finish but these are the fastest dogs, they are very good dogs.”
“She must lead with trouble behind her. She’ll go straight but can see cross? This is the hardest race she’s ever been in. She’s gone from a time graded, to Murray Bridge, to a city class 600m, to a city class bitches only and now a feature.”
The week since the heat has been good and Vadim is confident she will run well on Thursday.
“The weeks been good, she had her last gallop today (Monday) and worked excellent, so she should be ready to go for the main event on Thursday.”
After the series, Vadim thinks her future is best suited to the 500m trip, even though she has shown that she is very capable over the 600m journey.
“Even though she can win 600m with the right race, I think she’s a better 500m dog.”
“She’s an excellent kennel dog, perfect temperament. She’s a lovely natured dog.”
The final will be run at 8:31pm local time.
The State National Distance Final will also be run on Thursday, with a small field of five set to take part, but all of them are loaded with quality. It’s a mouthwatering line up with the big hitters in Fantastic Radley, Bedrock Fred and Victa Haydyn to do battle in an attempt to book their flight to Sydney.
The winner of both races will represent South Australia at Wentworth Park on August 27th.
Goodluck to all involved on Thursday night!
