Butcher Brings Home A Training Double

Tuesday Meeting (Straight track)
On an enjoyable Tuesday afternoon up the straight, we saw some good racing with a few handy performances from some different chasers. Gary Pidgeon and John Rees both continued their excellent form, with both trainers landing doubles for the day.

The card got underway with the Leanne Fagan trained Valiant Vic (Superior Panama x Cosmic Katie) breaking through for her maiden victory, putting together a good performance to win narrowly over the 300m distance.  From box two, the brindle bitch jumped well and found herself in the lead early. Hugging the rail and going well in front, she did start to get weary as she approached the line, but she did enough and held on in front of a fast finishing Victa Julie, winning in 17.28. Valiant Vic then won her grade 6 at Angle Park on Monday night, to cap off two wins in a week, which would have no doubt pleased the Fagan team!

Ashleigh Kay is only a young trainer with two dogs in work but was rewarded for her efforts with a winner on Tuesday in the form of Techno Kelli, who has proven to be super consistent in recent times. She lined up from box seven for a 300m assignment and when the boxes opened, she came out nicely. Despite receiving an early bump after jumping well, she forged ahead, but then was pressured again by Wood Carrier, who had got up underneath her. It was a fantastic battle up the straight, but Techno Kelli was just a bit too tough in the end, winning by a length in a handy 17.18. A very good effort and Ashleigh has got her racing in great form!

Sunday Meeting
10 races were run on the one one-turn track for the last Sunday meeting of the month and we saw some great races on the night.

Cameron Butcher landed a training double, thanks to some great efforts from a couple of his chasers. Waltowa was the first and he’s a dog that has had some injury problems in recent times, but he was back to something like his best, with a good win over the 455m distance in a heat of the grade 6 series. From box four, the black dog was a bit slow to go and had to muster quickly to get back into the race. Going into the turn, he really pushed hard, which then had him riding some luck and getting clear in front. At the top of the straight, he had the race put away, eventually winning by 2 lengths in 25.93. It was then a bit of a wait until the last of the night, when Ki Ki also won a heat of the same series, thanks to a strong effort from box four. In what was a good race, Ki Ki found herself outpaced in the initial stages, but quickly worked her way into the race and was hugging the rail. At the top of the straight, she looked a huge threat and before long she shot through to the lead and powered home. The end result was an impressive 25.85 victory, which capped off a good night out for Cameron!

We saw the emergence of a very good chaser on Sunday, with Victa Val stamping herself as a chaser to follow moving forward. The brindle bitch hadn’t produced anything spectacular prior to her grade 6 event on Sunday, but had been showing improvement with each race. From box five, she came out quite quickly and went straight to a clear lead. She was really moving along around the turn and had set up a big lead entering the straight. With the finish line approaching, the margin continued to grow, with Victa Val running away for an awesome 7 length victory in a best of the night 22.28, which is quite a sharp time! She is yet to turn two and if she keeps improving in this trajectory, then she will be winning quite a few more races yet.
