Tuesday (Straight Track)

On Tuesday we had a solid 10 race card last Tuesday up the Straight. Matty Payne took out the first of the card with his Brindle chaser Aston Tokyo. She had been good in all her starts prior, and on Tuesday when she got her chance to launch late and run down the leader, she took it. It was a fair beginning but she was able to keep the revs building with a clear run, before winning in a handy 17.03. Matty then made it a double with Aston Gypspy winning terrifically in a fast 16.47. He has done a really good job with this chaser during her time in SA. The run on Tuesday was also her first since January, so it was a really good training effort.

Ray Fewings had a couple of dogs from Victoria step out for the first time in his care and they were both terrific. Chop was the first one and he had some very solid market support throughout the day, even though he had drawn box 8. He stepped really well and found the front, before holding off a fast finishing Redeemer’s Gift in 16.66. Team Staffing was the next one and again received good backing from box 1. He used a bit of the track and had to really work hard to catch the leader, but got there and won by a neck in a really good 16.58. A great day for Ray who does a good job with his kennel.

Wendy Sebastyan also enjoyed her day at the Straight Track, scoring a very nice double. Harry Kool was the first one, and he had to do it tough as he wanted to shift up from box 1, which meant had a couple of bumps in the run. He was still good enough to find the front and win in 16.89. Sebsastyan Prince was her second winner and he went super over the 350m trip, to clock a BOD 19.07 and defeat the promising Springview Force in the process. Well done to Wendy and the team, they do a great job with their dogs.

Dog to follow: Yankee Constanza - He’s a pretty nice pup this one and his first up effort up the straight was outstanding on Tuesday. He had box 6 and came out poorly, before bumping quite heavily during the run. He then went right to the outside fence and with a serious turn of foot, was able to find the front before winning. He looked pretty green and was still able to run 16.69 which wasn’t far off the BOD.

Sunday (1-Turn)

Nangar Ellie was a very impressive winner on the first of the card on Sunday night. It was a strong effort, with Nangar Ellie jumping beautifully to find the front, with the very strong Spring Agatha landing right behind her. Nangar Ellie looked in big trouble as they went around the turn, but was able to repel the challenge and run away, winning very well in 29.91.

Bobby Axelroad finally broke the maiden for young Dillon Robinson after a few unlucky runs recently. He drew a much preferred box 8 for the 395m trip, and made it count by sweeping around midrace and shooting to the front. He was never in any danger after that and strolled home, clocking 22.34.

Cheryl Herman had a night out, scoring her first double as a trainer, from just the two runners on the night. Colden Dayto was the first one and he was able to score a much deserved victory on the back of some unlucky runs up the straight. He was really well backed on Sunday and showed why, jumping straight to the front with the rest of the field not even getting close, which was understandable as he zipped around in 22.16. Steve’s Regret was her second winner for the night. It was a professional performance from the inform dog, as he flew in a 4.99 first split, before holding off a late charge from those behind, to win in 22.19. Well done to Cheryl and all involved!

Steven Brook has been having a really good run lately and on Sunday he had a bit of a fill up again, with three winners from the team he brought down. Flash Banner used box 1 perfectly to get the ball rolling, winning in a BON 22.15. Girl On Fire handled box 7 really well to score by a nose, before Edgy Redgie ended the night for Brooky, just edging out John Dutton in a thriller. Well done Steven!

Dog to follow: Hukanui Lady - She’s a quality bitch that’s slowly been working herself back to form this preparation, and on Sunday she was something beaten at big odds. She copped a massive check on the first turn as she was about to land near the lead, which was race over thereafter. If she can just have some luck then she will win another one soon.
