Breeding Alert: DNA Testing for Breeding Females
Greyhounds Australasia (GA) have advised with New Zealand’s shut down of non-essential services, the designated laboratory that undertakes DNA genotyping for breeding is closed.
Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) has audited the number of DNA samples currently in transit to New Zealand and report the number is very low. GRSA can also report there are no outstanding samples awaiting results from the laboratory.
As a temporary measure, GRSA may permit a female on season only to be served without a DNA result with the submission of an exemption waiver. GRSA will manage this on a case-by-case basis. Breeders are encouraged to contact GRSA as soon as possible if they fall in this category.
GA will still process applications and distribute DNA kits and the collection of DNA should continue. GRSA will contact local Veterinarians to relay GA’s advice not to post any samples and to store kits within their tamper-proof postage bags in a refrigerator until New Zealand returns to normal operations.
Breeders should note that this current circumstance has no impact on currently registered breeding females.
