Boom Boom Jinx thrives in first look at The Bridge
Sunday (One-Turn)
Springvale Dave started the Sunday afternoon card at The Bridge, with the Michael Giniotis trained chaser taking out the grade 6 final over the 395m trip. It was an even field that had been drawn together and the box four draw appeared awkward for the hard-railing Springvale Dave.
A fast 4.94 first split saw him just hold an early lead but heading around the turn, he was doing it well. When the white and fawn dog had extended his lead at the top of the straight, the race was all but over. He went on to win in 22.46, which matched up quite well with other times on the night.
We saw three heats of mixed 5/6 Murray to Angle Park series over 530m, with the fastest heat winner being the Gavin Harris trained Boom Boom Jinx. Having really found his feet at Gawler in recent starts, he lined up for his first Murray Bridge start and drew box one. When the boxes opened, he was a half a stride slow to get going, but quickly got himself into a clear second. Before the turn, he had whipped around to the lead and in the home straight, he powered away, before winning by a massive seven lengths in a red hot 29.89!
Richard Stasiak went to The Bridge with just the one runner which was Elegant Ritzy, who went on to claim its second career win at start 25. From box four over the 395m trip, she started favourite, but things were looking a bit awkward for her when she was slow to go. Some track sense early allowed her to work her way into second, before working around the leader as they went around the turn. At the top of the straight, she took over, before running away to win dominantly, in a slick 22.58.
Dog to follow: Clear View - Has been working up to a win for some time now and she was quite unlucky on Sunday over the 455m trip. She was half a length from crossing to the lead, before getting dragged down and finding trouble. If she can draw well in the right race, then she’s going to be back on the winners list shortly.
Tuesday (Straight track)
On a pleasant afternoon at The Bridge, local trainer Damien Smith enjoyed a winning double with two impressive victors. Rocket Ralph was the first and showed his true ability, with a fantastic display of speed over the 300m trip. Starting a red-hot favourite from box four in the grade 6 field, he came out sweetly to find the early lead. After setting up a small buffer mid-race, he really powered away late, winning dominantly in an impressive 16.79.
Compton Ted later completed the double, when he produced an upset victory from box seven over the 300m journey. He was a bit tardy to go early, but quickly found his feet and levelled up to the lead mid-race. As they went to the line, his strength showed, with Compton Ted going on to win in 16.65, making it an excellent day out for Damien!
Vadim Roz made the trip up to the Bridge and walked away with a maiden winner, with Yarramundi Opal breaking through at start two. After showing speed at her debut, she did the same from the 300m boxes, jumping to a clear lead early. She was challenged midrace, but responded nicely, before kicking away for a very solid 17.07 victory, which is quite handy for her first look at the track
Dog to follow: Yarramundi Garth - He’s a big boy, weighing in at a tidy 43kg! But his two return runs from a spell have been much improved efforts. Over the 300m distance Tuesday, he was slow to go but his work late was excellent, really powering home. With a step up in trip and the right race, then he will pinch one at odds!
