The Gawler Produce Semi-Finals will be run this Sunday night over the 531m trip, with the first four from each of the two semi’s to go through to the $22,000 final the following Sunday.

It is a lucrative series run each year for dogs that have paid up and meet the age restriction requirement. There were some very impressive performances from a few of the series favourites last week in the heats, which included Springvale Maddi, He’s All Purpose and Springvale Max. One man who will be out to beat a couple of series fancies this Sunday is Greg Board, and he will be taking Spring Ammo and Spring Casper to the track. Spring Ammo won really impressively last week whilst Spring Casper was able to scrape through by running fourth in his heat. Greg, speaking from a hospital bed after an incident on Thursday, was thrilled with the heat run from Spring Ammo.

“Ammo’s run was super, he got out good and drove up. Went really well.” said Greg Board

Spring Ammo has had the five runs back from a lengthy spell, and whilst he has always shown that he is a fast dog, he has certainly furnished into a nice race dog now. The time off was injury enforced but it seems to have been a blessing in disguise given the maturity and smarts he is racing with now.

Spring Ammo in action in the Gawler Produce heats at Gawler on June 10th.

“He did his monkey muscle really bad in the Murray Bridge Cup Heats. He’s no champion but he’s a good handy dog. He’s won 15 from 31.”

The box draw has not favoured Spring Ammo (box #4 - Semi 2) and Spring Casper (box #7 - Semi 1) a great deal, with both dogs needing to be at their best if they are to overcome them.

“I was hoping for the red, it’s about my turn! It’s not much of a box but with a bit of luck he might get through,” said Greg of Spring Ammo.

“Spring Casper’s drawn the wrong side, he’s a dog that doesn't have any luck. He’s got a bit of ability. Whatever starts he’s had, he’s only drawn inside box four, three times in his life. He just wants the fence. For him to run fourth the other day was enormous if you watch it. He was turned sideways and gone.”

If Greg could pick one of his two to make the final and have an impact, he was very clear on who that would be.

“Ammo. If he comes out and fires up like he does, he’s only had those couple of runs so he will be a bit stronger than he was the other day.”

The first semi-final of the Produce will be run at 6:02pm.

Goodluck to all involved and hopefully Greg is on the mend soon!
