Wednesday

We were greeted with good conditions for the Wednesday meeting at Gawler, and the racing was equally as good, with a few really impressive performances on the meeting.

Miss Ambitious was having her second local start, after a nice first up effort. She drew the dreaded box eight, but that proved to be a non issue. She jumped well before staying up the track which allowed her to enjoy a trouble free run. She put a gap on her rivals mid race and never looked like losing, winning by two lengths. It was a special win as it was the first win as an owner for young Lachy Waterman. Hopefully it is the first of many!

Kim Johnstone had an enjoyable day with two winners for the meeting. Velocity Comet was the first as she upset a red hot favourite in Classy Chaos. She jumped beautifully from box one and was never troubled en route to her 22.86 victory. Big Gordy then won the next race, with a powerful win from box eight. He only jumped fairly but really motored midrace before winning in 22.77. That was by far his best run since coming to the state and potentially the start of a nice little run of form for him.

One of the more surprising runs on the day came from Emerley Wiggum, who was first up for six weeks. His form prior to the break was only fair, but his run on Wednesday was anything but! Jumping from box four, he mustered well, before clicking through the gears midrace and spacing the others. The end result was a ripping 22.84 victory!

Friday

Steven Brook has been having a good run lately and that continued on Friday with another two winners. Sizzle And Shine was the first, overcoming box eight with a hard fought victory, sitting wide during the run before getting up a neck. Hard Case Watson was the other, on the back of a massive but luckless run the week prior. He jumped well from box four and landed just off the speed, before roaring late and getting the late bob in, to win in a quick 22.81.

Sutton Ebony broke through for a very deserving victory, after some good runs against tough opposition recently. Again she landed in a strong race, but that did not bother her. She jumped well from box seven to find the front, but when the favourite Sky And Thunder landed right on her tail, she was going to have to be tough. That she was, as she defied the challenge and kept kicking for a terrific 30.91 win.

Emerley Jaguar proved a real surprise packet with his BOD 22.76 victory. From box two, he was able to glide under Our Winnie who led early, before putting on the afterburners and shooting clear for a fantastic victory. He’s only lightly raced and I am sure he will be winning plenty more on the back of Friday’s win.
