The Board of Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) has announced the appointment of Ben Kavenagh to fill the role recently left vacant by the departure of former Director, Grahame Marshall.

Mr Marshall came to the business in 2018 with a wealth of experience derived from senior roles across a number of different industry sectors. He consistently demonstrated his capacity for critical strategic thought and his willingness to challenge the status quo. The Board thanks Grahame for the important contribution that he made during his time with GRSA.

“Mr Marshall has provided tremendous business acumen and insight to GRSA which is also reflected in our strategic planning. The Board thanks Mr Marshall for his important contribution to GRSA.” GRSA Chairman Grantley Stevens explained.

Mr Marshall’s replacement, Ben Kavenagh, was recruited by the Director Selection Panel, which comprises of Government and industry representation. That decision then required endorsement from the Minister for Racing, Corey Wingard, and approval from Consumer and Business Services.

Mr Kavenagh has had direct experience with greyhound racing, having worked for Greyhound Racing Victoria in the earliest years of his career. Since that time, Mr Kavenagh has worked in CEO and General Management roles with leading South Australian sports organisations including the South Adelaide Football Club, Glenelg Golf Club, Adelaide Lightning and most recently the Adelaide 36’ers. While at the Adelaide 36’ers, Mr Kavenagh led the business through a significant growth phase, during which period the organisation successfully transitioned its home games to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

In joining the Board of Directors, Mr Kavenagh noted, “I’m extremely excited to be joining the Board at this key stage in the industry’s evolution. I look forward to working with the other Board members, and collaborating with owners, breeders, trainers, officials and volunteers to further develop the sport in South Australia.”

Greyhound Racing SA Chairman, Grantley Stevens, discussed the extent to which Ben’s sports management experience would be a welcome addition to the organisation. “The Directors are looking forward to Ben joining the organisation in this role. His strong management background as well as his previous involvement with the greyhound racing industry will make him a highly valuable asset to GRSA.”
