Thursday night will see star SA stayer Bedrock Fred take his place in yet another feature race, when he lines up in the Group 3 Dashing Corsair at Albion Park. The recently turned three son of Spring Gun has been road tripping around the country, racing against the best dogs around and competing quite strongly. After a few good runs at Sandown Park in Victoria, Fred made his way to Queensland to run in a heat of the Dashing Corsair last week. He is currently being looked after by Tony Brett, who had Bedrock Fred in his care this time last year.

“He’s back with Tony Brett and you couldn’t wish for a better trainer, he’s a master at the sport. He actually asked last year if he could have Fred back. He says that Fred has settled in well and knows where he is, he thinks he owns the kennel again.” said co trainer/owner Cherylee Barber.

“He was sent up to target the Queensland Cup, but we decided to send him a bit earlier to target this race.”

Whilst he has been up for a while and touring the country, Cherylee believes that Fred is still improving.

“I think he’s improved. Krystal and Steve Shinners in Western Australia had him firing but he just got some back luck. They put us in contact with Graeme Jose in Melbourne and he turned out to be fantastic for Fred as well.”

He ran second in the heat of Dashing Corsair last week, finishing only 3 lengths behind the very promising Rohan Bale. The run in the heat was a ripper according to Cherylee.

“He got in a bit of trouble but it was a mighty run by him! The number five interfered with him a fair amount of the way but he did well to push through to get where he got.”

“He’s the type of dog that gives 110% every single time, I would love 10 dogs like him.”

Bedrock Fred has come up with the visitors draw for the final, as he will don the green rug for box six. That draw whilst disappointing for Cherylee, comes as no surprise given his poor record with box draws before.

“Well we’re used to it! Poor old Fred, if he does make it into a final he normally doesn’t get an inside box or if he does he normally gets trampled on.”

“All that we can hope is that he can follow the dog to his inside and get across, so that he can hang onto its heels and get over the top at the end.”

Bedrock Fred will return to South Australia at some point, but just not yet.

“We do want to bring him back even if it’s just to say hello and tell him we love him! I think Steve and Krystal would love to get him back too, they keep saying they're keeping a close eye on him. He’s won a few hearts I think!”

Another star stayer from South Australia will also be lining up at Albion Park on Thursday night, and that will be Fantastic Radley who has proven unbeatable recently. He too will contest the Queensland Cup next week, however, he faces a real tough test in the FFA on Thursday, with the race absolutely stacked with quality.

Bedrock Fred will run at 7:40pm in race 6, whilst Fantastic Radley is in race 4 at 6:55pm.
