Barber’s chasing more feature race glory
This Sunday Night at Murray Bridge will see the heats run for the annual Oaks and Derby, an age restricted race for young dogs. The fields which have been brought together are as good as you will see in South Australia with some quality hounds set to do battle. Stewart and Cherylee Barber will be looking to carry on from their recent Group 3 Brian Johnstone success as they take their two kennel stars, Springvale Maddi and Zinfandel Bart to the track. Both would be close to series favourites and both have a great chance in their heats on Sunday.
“Bart’s only had one look at the track and went alright. Maddi is just returning there and she has done most of her racing at Angle Park. I suppose if they both jump on the day and get around then yeah they have a good chance. I am pleased they have got inside boxes. I haven’t looked at the races much but I always worry about Greg Board’s dogs and Bart has one of them in his.” - Cherylee Barber
“I give both of them a chance (in regards to the overall series), but I will be pretty happy if they qualify for the final and I will be over the moon if Bart does what he did in the Brian Johnstone.”
Such is the dominance of both of these dogs in recent times, between them they have won their last 10 starts. Springvale Maddi will certainly be bringing an experience edge over a couple of her rivals on Sunday, and she looks to have every possible hope from box 1 with a vacant outside. Zinfandel Bart on the other hand has just had the six career starts due to a wrist injury which almost stopped him from getting to the track.
