On Sunday Night at the Gawler Greyhounds we saw the running of the 2021 Bothing Gawler Stayers Cup over the 643 meters. The race is named after the track record holder for the 643 meter distance which is Bothing. Bothing set the track record all of the way back in 2006 for trainers Bosko Stemenkovic and Christine Costa. She had the 30 career starts for 17 wins and 6 placings. She set the track record of 36.81 towards the end of her career. A lot of people believe that the track record for the 643 meter start won’t be broken.

We saw a field of eight go around for the Bothing Gawler Stayers Cup. Barbados Express began well from box number four and hit the front in the early stages. The race favourite Run Like Jess lobbed into second placing early but he couldn’t catch Barbados Express who went onto win by three quarters of a length. She ran a time of 37.60 in the process. Trainer Ben Rawlings took out the Gawler Sprint Championship over the 400 meters the week prior with Zipping Walter and he can now add the Stayers Cup to his trophy cabinet. Barbados Express has been a handy greyhound for the Rawlings kennel and connections. She has now had the 37 career starts for 12 wins and 11 placings. She also managed to take out the Bayroad Queen Stayers cup final at Murray Bridge earlier in the year.

Our other feature for the night was the 2021 Anniversary Cup over the 531 meters. The favourite for the race was the Gawler Cup winner Victa Grosso. Came And Went was drawn box one who was also in the Gawler Cup final the week prior. He jumped really well this week and found the front to lead all of the way. Victa Grosso was a bit unlucky and he motored home late but Came And Went was too good running a time of 30.76 which was a new personal best for him. He is trained by Troy Murray who had a massive night scoring four winners throughout the race meeting. He also had a big day on Friday at Murray Bridge when he scored three winners there. Came And Went has now had the 24 career starts for 10 wins and 11 placings. He has a massive successful career ahead of him.

Greyhound racing action returns to Gawler on Wednesday afternoon and Sunday evening this week. If you have the opportunity make sure you head to the track for a fun afternoon or night out.
