Aston Rupee ready to rock Angle Park
With the $100,000 G1, Adelaide Cup fast approaching, speculation is high in regards to which interstate visitors will be making an appearance. One dog that almost certainly will be there is the rising superstar, Aston Rupee, with leading trainer Glenn Rounds confirming the intentions, “At this stage the dog will be there.” The idea to have a crack at the Adelaide Cup hasn’t been a long term one for Rounds, with the current COVID-19 situation around the country making planning a difficult task, “It’s been a hard time to plan with dogs, the last month or so is when we’ve gotten more serious with making definite plans.”
The format of the Adelaide Cup, with the winner of the match race series receiving a golden ticket to the final, has provided an ideal first step for Aston Rupee. Rounds has elected to go down this path, “He is nominated for the Match Race series.” The new Angle Park circuit has created plenty of conversation around the country. Rounds has been tuned into the first weeks of operation and believes the new track is a good one. “The first few weeks I’ve seen, I like how spacious and wide it is. If they don’t make it big enough then the dogs get that closed in feeling.” Rounds is confident the new circuit will suit Aston Rupee, although remains cautious with putting too much expectation on him first up at the track. “Dogs just don’t rock up to tracks and cut loose, they need practice. He will go better with a look, they all do!”
