2016 DAISH IRRIGATION AND FODDER STRATHALBYN CUP – REVIEW

After five super heats Sunday week the $10,000 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Final on Sunday looked a very even contest on paper however the Troy Murray trained Aston Kody made it a one act affair after he was able to lead throughout and score a solid victory.

On a lovely warm night and in front of a large crowd the son Collision and Aston Elle showed blistering early speed to cross the field and from there he set up an unassailable lead. With greyhounds jostling for position in behind Aston Kody was off and gone off the back straight leading by 7 to 8 lengths. Turning for home he was in no danger going on to score a great win in a sizzling 31.45 for the 536m journey however Hotham Lad for Tony Rasmussen sizzled home over the last section finishing only 2 lengths away. Last years winner Wheel Spinner for Ossie Chegia did a good job to grab third on the line in a four way photo finish.

Other features on the night were the SA Country Cup final taken out by Berry Bling for Victorian trained Nicole Stanley. Nicole is a great support of the Mt Gambier Greyhound Racing Club and qualified through their heats a few weeks ago while Allinga Val continued her good form for Yvonne King by winning the Strathalbyn Cup consolation.
