Angle Road / South Road Intersection Closure
Construction activity for the South Road Superway has reached a stage where final layers of asphalt can be placed on South Road, south of Grand Junction Road. This activity is a major milestone for the project and will provide improvements for traffic flow in the area once in place.
To achieve placement of this asphalt significant changes to traffic flow on South Road will be required. To minimise the disruption to business access, the asphalt will be placed during the next three weekends.
Saturday 29 June 2013
To place asphalt on the northbound carriageway between the BP Service Station and Grand Junction Road, the following traffic arrangements will be implemented from 6.30pm on Friday night until 5pm on Saturday:
· All traffic will travel on the southbound carriageway of South Road between Grand Junction Road and Kateena Street.
· Angle Road will be closed at South Road.
· Right turn movements will not be permitted at the Days Road and South Road intersection (left in, left out only)
Saturday night
From 6pm on Saturday the following traffic arrangements (shown overleaf) will be implemented to prepare for asphalt to be placed on the northbound carriageway between Days Road and Angle Road.
· Northbound traffic on South Road will move to the southbound carriageway at Days Road.
· Access to and from Days Road at South Road will be closed.
· Access to the BP Service Station will be via Angle Road.
· Northbound traffic will move to the new northbound carriageway near the project’s Precast Yard.
· All southbound traffic on South Road will detour to Gallipoli Drive via Grand Junction Road.
Sunday 30 June 2013
New asphalt will be placed on South Road between Days Road and the BP Service Station on Sunday morning. The traffic arrangements put in place on Saturday night will remain until Sunday afternoon. When the asphalt has set, northbound traffic will be moved to the new northbound carriageway between Days Road and Grand Junction.
Northbound traffic will remain on this carriageway for the rest of the week.
Southbound traffic will remain detoured to Gallipoli Drive until Monday morning. From 6.30am on Monday, southbound traffic will travel on the new southbound carriageway.
Monday 1 July
From Monday there will be one northbound lane open on the northbound carriageway and one southbound lane open on the southbound carriageway. It will not be possible to cross from one carriageway to the other as the carriageways are separated by the piers and work will continue underneath the elevated structure. It will only be possible to turn right from South Road at Kateena Street and Days Road.
Further notices about roadwork on South Road will be issued each week for the next three weeks. For more information about these changes or any other aspect of the South Road Superway please contact the project information line on 1300 638 789 or send an email to contactus@ urbansuperway.com.au
