Angle Park - Thursday Preview - 9/8/2018
by The Shadow
It’s a huge night here at headquarters with the running of the two State Crocmedia National Finals over the sprint and the distance, which are races 4 and 6 on the programme. We have seen in recent years upsets so we should have a lash in both events. Don’t forget all races are First Four and Trifecta events and the kennel to follow is certainly the powerful Rasmussen team.
Race 1 - I’m starting the night with my best each way bet and that is Cain Hoy who has been racing well of late but has struggled in the past from this draw, he has a couple of moderate beginners on his outside and might be able to kick up early and hold a very handy position. Alpha Aion should start the punters elect and will be right in the finish with a clear run early. Box Up 1.2.3.4.
Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and it’s very hard to go past Spring Kudu on his past 2 runs here, the small field should suite and he gets his chance to break through. The 2 newcomers in Hilltop Tales and Turanza”s Terror are the ones to watch on their debut. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.
Race 3 - Lisa Rasmussen rarely goes home without a winner and Oh Jay Korie can finally break through after four seconds here in a row, he has the pace to cross from here and get the bickies. Emerley Mine is our value runner and with handy wins at Gawler in recent starts is a must for our Trifecta, add in Dream Breaker at good odds and Gunnadoo Driver. Box Up 1.5.6.8.
Race 4 - This is the State final of the National Distance and the scratching of Zudactyl Monelli has opened the race up for Cairnlea Jet. Cairnlea Jet was very impressive here last week when leading throughout and is now the top pick. San Tan Sam can run into the placings at big odds along with Springvale Choix. Box Up 2.5.6.7.
Race 5 - The Tony Rasmussen kennel can run the Quinella in this with Hukanui and Menzali both are racing well with the latter being my top pick as he has a ton of early pace and carved out a handy 29.86 run from box 4 here last week. Hukanui will be stalking him down the back again and will go very close. Windmill Haze and Feral Lad are more than capable on their night to run into the money. Box Up 1.3.4.8.
Race 6 - How good is this field the State final of the National Sprint, we will stick with Nations who we tipped here last week and he saluted in 29.76, he needs to begin a lot better from his draw tonight but he has a very big motor and will go very close. Honcho Monelli showed his class again with a sizzling 29.42 B.O.N. win and will be the BIG danger along with Cairnlea Kenny out in box 7. Box Up 1.2.3.7.
Race 7 - Don Lesta is racing in superb form with 4 wins from his last 5 starts he will be doing his best work into the back and should prove very hard to beat again. Mulga Jack is our value runner and his best form of late has been from rails draws. Add the Cameron Butcher pair in Hopes Beau and Jays Ace for the First Four. Box Up 1.3.5.8.
Race 8 - The early pace should come from Bella Trix and Mr. Arjay in this and both have been racing in terrific form, so they have to be in our top 2. Mepunga Georgia was never in the hunt here last start but ran a handy 2nd here late last month and is worth putting in the top four. Box Up 2.3.5.7.
Race 9 - This is a very smart 600m affair and with the small field of 5 it makes it more interesting. Spring Bloom made short work of a handy field here last week when leading through out for a smart 35.16 win, he is right in this once again. Zambora Tyler will be charging home and my pick Stack The Aces is a big chance of pinching this by leading all the way. Box Up 1.4.6.8.
Race 10 - The final event is a wide-open affair and I like one at each way odds in Nod Ya Head in the Des Hockley kennel, he ran a nice 2nd here on his debut and with moderate beginners on either side he might be able to lead and hold on. Reiko Rocketta should start the punters elect on his 30.04 win from this draw 2 starts back. Box Up 1.3.5.8.

2018 CROCMEDIA NATIONAL SPRINT & DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS STATE FINALS
With only the one heat for the Distance last week all starters progressed through to tonight’s State final. Cairnlea Jet for trainer Petar Jovanovic produced an outstanding performance at only his second run over the staying trip to hold off Zudactyl Monelli for trainer Tony Rasmussen in the run to the finish.
With the scratching of Zudactyl Monelli tonight Cairnlea Jet now looks the hot favourite tonight to qualify for SA.
Box Draw 2018 Crocmedia National Distance Championship State Final tonight – Race 4 @ 7.49pm:

8. Zudactyl Monelli SCR9. Who Said That (Box 4) Gino Grgurovic
After his brilliant win last week in a scintillating 29.42 in his heat of the Nationals Honcho Monelli for trainer Tony Rasmussen has fared pretty well in tonight’s final after drawing box 3 and looks the greyhound to beat. Nations won the other heat last week running a slick 29.76 and after drawing box 1 tonight looks the main challenger to his kennel mate. Cairnlea Kenny has again drawn poorly out wide tonight and will need some luck early to find the fence after running second last week.

All states will be conducting their Sprint & Distance Finals tonight in a huge coup for the industry. Tim Edwards will do the oncourse previewing of both finals with Ray Fewings catching up with some trainer interviews. It makes for a great promotion of the series.
Each winner of the State finals tonight will represent South Australia at the Crocmedia Group 1 National Championships to be run on Friday 24th August at Sandown Park.
GAWLER SHOW DATES AND CHANGES
August means that it is coming up to Gawler Show time, so some Gawler meetings will be transferred to Strathalbyn and Angle Park this year.
This year the Annual Gawler Show will be held on the weekend of Saturday, 25th and Sunday, 26th August. Racing on Sunday night, 26th August will be at Strathalbyn. Racing on Tuesday, 28th August will be at Angle Park with this meeting being an Angle Park Provincial (APD) fixture with normal Tuesday prizemoney and will be raced with the Finish On Lure.
Racing on Friday, 24th August will be at Mount Gambier.
Trials will be cancelled at Gawler on Wednesday, 22nd August and Thursday, 23rd August due to Show preparations. We will hopefully have the track ready to trial again on Wednesday, 29th August, but this will be dependent on the weather over the show weekend. There will be trials at Angle Park on Tuesday, 21st August and on Saturday, 25th August.
AGRC/GRSA GREYHOUND AUCTION IN OCTOBER
The Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club in conjunction with Greyhound Racing SA will again conduct a Greyhound Auction this year in October, however, there will be some significant changes to the conditions.
The most notable will be NO race attached to the Auction Series for puppies, however, the Auction has been opened up to not only include pups but Ready for Racing greyhounds and Brood Bitches.
Below are the details regarding the series -
Greyhound Auction Date – Sunday, 21st October
Categories for Auction–
Pups – 4 months to 11 months (whelping date – born 1st October 2017 to 30th June 2018)
Ready for Racing –
12 months to 19 months (if named and raced must trial in some way)
20 months or older (must solo trial over 274m, 388m or 515m. Handslip optional)
Trials to be conducted on Monday night or Wednesday Day at race meeting to be filmed the week prior to the Auction. Footage to be available on the GRSA website prior to Auction. Prefer all greyhounds to trial on the same night
Brood Bitch - Must have a Pink Card or apply for a Pink Card at nomination time to be approved prior to the Auction date.
Nomination Fees - All greyhounds 12 months and older will be $50 nomination fee, Puppies 4 months to 11 months will be $50 for the first pup for each vendor from that litter and then $20 per pup for each other pup from that litter. If another vendor is nominating it will be $50 even if from a litter already nominated.
Commission - The commission will be 7.5% of sale price. The nomination fee will be deducted from the commission. For example a ready to race dog sold for $2,000 will have a commission of $150, but only $100 will be deducted from sale proceeds as $50 already collected as part of nomination fee.
Swabbing – It will be the intention of the Integrity staff to swab all greyhounds that trial in public for the Auction.
Catalogue – Whatever the vendor puts on their nomination form is what will be published in the catalogue. It is crucial that vendors give sufficient information to ensure the best chances of sale.
Nomination closing times –Friday, 7th September for the Pups and Friday, 14th September for 12 months and above.
KURT DONSBERG – ONCOURSE RACE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER
Recently Kurt was able to extend his roster to not only do Thursday night meetings at Angle Park but also the Monday night and Wednesday day meetings, however, due to personal commitments he is unable to do Monday nights until later in the year.
Kurt will continue as normal with Thursdays and also Wednesdays based on his availability.
On those days/nights of racing when Kurt is not oncourse GRSA will continue to allow participants to take their own presentation photos and if required, gain access to the presentation area. Please just liaise with the Stewards on the day for access.
ACCELL THERAPY MAT NOW AVAILABLE AT ANGLE PARK
The mat is now available in the foyer area of the Angle Park building. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. It will be available during normal office hours to be used (greyhounds racing on that day excluded). Please ask the Racing Admin staff if you wish to use the mat. GRSA is working towards making this available also during trial sessions.
TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN
All bookings for normal trials will be taken by the Club for Wednesday nights. You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials. All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials.
