TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight’s programme features 5 heats of the 2018 UBET Adelaide Cup which are races 2 to 6, the locals look to have a strong chance this year but as in recent years this event normally has a bolter or two make the final. Other highlights on the night are a very strong 731m and a 600m later in the night. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - Rachel Zane has been racing in terrific form of late and can nearly pinch this tonight, she has a good turn of early speed and will be hard to beat. Don Lesta has been hit and miss of late but is worth putting in our top four along with Skyther Monelli and Lonely Cowboy. Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 2 - The 1st of the CUP heats and we backed Nations last week and he didn’t let us down winning in a slick BON 29.55, he is in top form and will be hard to beat again. Victorian sprinter Vital Force has good city form and should appreciate the rails draw. Hold Da Door won at big odds here last start and is our value runner for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.5.

Race 3 - Second of the CUP heats and we will go with the Kirin Corby chaser Fabwik, she is very smart when on the lure and she has the pace to lead and win tonight from the inside draw. Aston Kimetto has been placed here in the past and in the powerful Seona Thompson kennel, he can be hit and miss on box rise and will be doing his best work late. Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 4 – Third of the CUP heats and the pacey Real Simple has been racing well in Victoria of late with wins at Sandown and the Meadows in recent runs, he is well drawn to give this a shake. Spring Bridge was a huge run here last start when 2nd behind Nations in slick time and is my top pick for this event. Zipping Inglis trialled here and looks the improver for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Race 5 – Fourth of the CUP heats and this is a wide open affair, Cairnlea Jet was an eye catching run here last start when 4th in 29.55 and was doing his best work late, he should be right in the finish. Game Face is in terrific form and should be able to run a cheeky race, Windmill Haze and Chief’s Sidekick also look amongst the chances. Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 6 – Fifth  and final heat of the 2018 UBET Adelaide Cup and Pure Ability is a big chance in this at each way odds, he has moderate beginners drawn on his inside and should be able to lead when on song he can carve out quick times. Honcho Monelli will be running on strongly along with Pyredos Monelli. Box Up 1.2.3.4.

Race 7 - The Rasmussen kennel rarely goes home without a winner and Sarina Monelli should be able to kick up and hold the lead in this, the former WA performer appears to be a more than handy sprinter. Nut Allergy and Born Billy can add value to our First Four. Box Up 1.3.7.8.

Race 8 - We see the return of On Fire in this, he hasn’t raced since running 2nd here back in June this year, he has a terrific strike rate over this trip and is sure to be well tried. Jeebus Bird has been runner up here at his past 2 and has his paw on the till and wouldn’t be a surprise if he breaks through tonight. Box Up 3.4.7.8.

Race 9 - This is a wide open event and we will go with the Judi Hurley trained Madam Onyx out in box 7, she has won her past 3 here and Gawler in good fashion and the wide draw is a bonus. Spring Spinner and On The Bonnet are amongst the chances also and should finish in the First Four. Box Up 2.3.6.7.

Race 10 - The 600m event of the night and we must go with Stack The Aces again, he missed the kick here last week when running 4th but should find the early lead tonight. Phil’s Green is racing well and loves this draw and is the BIG danger. Add Max Jake and
Pirates Curse as the value runner. Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 11 - Tough event as there are several chances, I like Emerley Nolen who is more than capable on his night, he is only a moderate beginner but is very capable with early luck. Half A Mill is the improver and can run a cheeky race from his draw. Box Up 1.2.4.7.

Race 12 - We need to go home on a winner and Come On Enzo is a speedy type who can lead and win, he won last start in quick time over the 416 at Strathalbyn and was placed here prior. Blessed In Black and Muchachos are racing well and can figure. Box Up 1.6.7.8.
