Angle Park - Thursday Preview - 23/11/17
by The Shadow
There looks to be several high-quality races on tonight’s 11 event programme here at headquarters. We have two heats of the Brian Johnstone feature to look forward to and we get to see Bogie Bekim over the journey in race 9. Don’t forget all races are trifecta and first four events including the $10,000 guaranteed Trifecta pool in race 1 tonight.
Race 1 - It’s certainly a very tricky event to kick the night off with but we will stick with the Petar Jovanovic trained Cairnlea Strider in box 5, he is a class act when on the lure but continues to find early trouble in his races. Lepa Nada and Skipper McLaren are well drawn and will be right in the finish. Box Up 1.2.4.5
Race 2 - The two form runners in this are Emerley Nolen and Crazy Again and both must be put in the trifectas, they are handy beginners and should be right in the mix. Add in the Tony Rasmussen trained Desert Missile as she has handy short course form and will be at reasonable odds. Box Up 3.4.5.6.
Race 3 - The Stuart Ellis trained sprinter Rhynstone Teddy is in terrific form of late and is drawn well here for a bold showing, so we will make him our top pick. Dakota Dawn has struggled from wide draws in recent runs but looks the likely improver. Box Up 2.3.7.8.
Race 4 - This is the 600m event of the night and we tipped him last week and he looked the winner but went down by a nostril and that is the Kenny Gill trained Windmill Haze, he can bounce back into the winners circle tonight. McLaren Missile loves to run into the placings and will be the one rattling home over the last 100m. Box Up 1.2.4.7.
Race 5 - Well this is a wide-open affair, so it makes for a terrific betting affair and I will go with one at handy each way odds in Sally’s Girl down in box 1. She has been he bridesmaid here at her last 3 starts and definitely has her paw on the till. Optic Blast has been missing the kick of late but is a class act with a clear run. Add in the well-travelled Mighty Barcia who has a good turn of early pace for our trifecta. Box Up 1.3.7.8.
Race 6 - Cairnlea Kenny is flying at the moment and has notched up two terrific wins here at headquarters in recent weeks, he has drawn box 7 tonight and should continue on his winning way. High Eden Frost has good box manners and rarely runs a bad race; he is a must for our trifecta as is Wilba Beast. Box Up 1.6.7.8.
Race 7 - Diego Bale has proven very costly at his 8 starts here at Angle Park, he has started as the favourite in many of those and will probably start the punters elect again but I can’t tip him as he continues to miss the kick however we will put him in our trifecta. Who can win? Well we will go with the pacey Blu Light Banjo who might be able to pinch this. Box Up 2.3.4.7.
Race 8 - I like the inside three here and put High Eden Snow on top as he will find this more to his liking with moderate beginners around him. Alpha Alexander will be right in this and has a handy strike rate at this venue. We can’t leave out Stitch ‘Em Up down in box 1 as he loves this draw. Box Up 2.3.1.5.
Race 9 - The Ben Rawlings chaser Bogie Bekim is in fine form of late and finished 4th at Sandown last start behind Champagne Sally in 41.96, he won his previous 4 starts over this trip but will start at very skinny odds and should prove far too good for these. Caprice Monelli can finish 2nd and we will go with Long Gully Gilly for 3rd. Trifecta in order for a $1.00 outlay - 4.2.1.
Race 10 - People can’t say I don’t show faith as I am sticking with Buddy’s Entity who was beaten a lip here last week at 8/1, he is so close to breaking through it’s not funny and tonight he will be at good odds again, so we can’t jump off. Charlie Chops will be making good ground as will Matriculate. Box Up 1.2.5.6.
Race 11 - Its always good to go home on a winner and we will go with Tag and Release from box 5, he will find this a little easier than his past couple despite his poor draw. Edison Bale doesn’t win enough for mine but loves to fill a place, so he is a must for the trifecta. Add in Snow Avalanche who is very smart when on song but is hit and miss when the lids fly. Box Up 1.4.5.6.

2017 BRIAN JOHNSTONE SEMI FINALS TONIGHT
Tonight we see the running of two semi-finals of the 2017 Brian Johnstone (Group Three).
The first semi-final features the clash between Emerley Nolen for Robyn Mackellar, Crazy Again for Des Hockley and Libby Raider for Paula Hearnden. It looks a great clash to kick the semi-finals of and is race 2 on the program.
In the second semi-final series favourite Rhynstone Teddy looks well placed from box 2 for trainer Stuart Ellis but should get some stiff competition from Baa Man for Karen Wittholz and Dakota Dawn for Kerry Stagg. This will be race 3 on the card tonight.
The first four from each semi-final qualifies for the $37,500 Brian Johnstone Final on Thursday 30th November with the fastest fifth being declared the first reserve and the other fifth placegetter the second reserve. The box draw for the Final will take place on course tonight after the running of race 5 tonight.
The final part of this series will be the Gawler Classic 2017 to be run on 17th and 24th December 2017.
2017 DAISH IRRIGATION & FODDER
STRATHALBYN CUP FINAL SUNDAY
After five fabulous heats last Sunday the $14,350 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Final this Sunday looks to be one of the highlights on the local racing calendar this season.
The Club has drawn together an outstanding field for their main meeting of the year and a huge crowd is expected to attend the Southern Greyhound Raceway. Its going to be beautiful conditions on the weekend so well worth a venture down the freeway.
Last weeks heats were taken out by Rock Away leading throughout for Lisa Rasmussen who ran a solid 31.71 with Molly Be Nimble for Cameron Butcher finding her best form in winning in a handy 31.63. Spring Bloom impressed for Greg Board with a powerful run home to win by 8 lengths in a best of the night 31.15 while Lisa qualified her second finalist when veteran Dyna Keitaro won well in 31.60. Tony Rasmussen didn’t miss out and let wife Lisa take all the glory when his greyhound Barton Bale exploded from the boxes and lead throughout in a slick 31.20 and after drawing box 1 in the final looks very hard to beat.
The Cup Final will be race 8 on Sunday due to start at 7.32pm (SA time). Coverage for this race on the night will be on Sky Racing 1 with other races shared on Sky Racing 1 and Sky Racing 2.
2017 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Final – Box Draw

2. Roc The Belvue Tony Hinrichsen
3. Rock Away Lisa Rasmussen
4. Spring Bloom Greg Board
5. Dyna Keitaro Lisa Rasmussen
6. Venetian Mask Maurice Kiley

8. Jay’s Ace Cameron Butcher

The Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Consolation is race 7 on the program due to start at 7.07pm for those greyhounds which failed to qualify for the $10,000 to the winner final. The race is worth $2,000 so it will be a very keenly contested affair.
MELBOURNE CUP FINAL TOMORROW NIGHT AT SANDOWN
What a great night of racing it will be Interstate tomorrow night with the running of the $600,000 Group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup Final being run on a Friday night at Sandown.
The final looks very much like the Group 1 Adelaide field from last month with 4 of the 8 finalist’s tomorrow night coming through the Adelaide Cup final. Some judges believe the Adelaide Cup may even be a slightly better race but no one can deny its going to be an unbelievable race for Melbourne Cup glory. It will be race 8 on Friday night due to start at 8.58pm (SA time) and my tip is for the reigning Adelaide Cup winner Raw Ability for Anthony Azzopardi to again win a Group final from 4.
Also on the night will be the Group 1 Bold Trease for the stayers with Fanta Bale aiming to be the third greyhound to crack the $1millon in prizemoney along with the Sir John Dillon Memorial and Cup Night Sprint.

ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER FROM 11.30AM
GRSA received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions.
This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.
· To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings. However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions. It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.
Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.
· It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.
NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS
Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)). This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred. We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.
Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”. This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound. It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.
COMPLETION OF PAPERWORK
Participants are reminded of their obligation to ensure that when lodging paperwork that it is fully completed and payment is made at the time of lodgement. GRSA is here to assist should you be unsure of how to complete any paperwork however it is not our responsibility to arrange for its completion, nor is it our responsibility to ensure that it is lodged. Therefore, please ensure when lodging any paperwork eg, Transfer of Ownerships, Litter Registrations etc that they are fully completed and paid for and lodged within a timely manner.
