Angle Park - Thursday Preview - 21/12/17
SEASONS GREETINGS
On behalf of the GRSA Board Members, Management and Staff we would like to wish all greyhound industry participants and followers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
by The Shadow
How good is the racing tonight here at headquarters, the highlight is race 6, the Christmas Cup which has 6 smart performers engaged over the sprint, all starters have a good chance as there is a mixture of early speed and strength. The kennel to follow looks to be the Rasmussen team as they have several strong chances throughout the night. Remember all the UBET jackpots tonight including the $10,000 guaranteed trifecta pool on race 1, it’s well worth a crack!
Race 1 - We can kick off with a winner in Zipping Zeus down in box 2, he flew home to score here last week in a handy 30.07 winning by over 6L and on that effort we will make him our top pick. Wheel Spinner won over the short last start and is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.3.5.
Race 2 - The Troy Murray kennel can snare a winner with Terpillar, he won from this draw last start and should have the pace to cross the inside brigade. Dinky Man didn’t fire here last start but is a lot better than that effort; he is worth putting in the first four as is the well-drawn Shaniqua. Box Up 1.4.6.8.
Race 3 - There looks to be several chances in this but we will go with the well-drawn Tag And Release down in box 1, he missed the kick here last start from an awkward draw but is more than capable of bouncing back tonight. Mighty Barcia and Hurucan have their fair share of ability and are capable of running a cheeky race. Box Up 1.3.4.7.
Race 4 - This is the distance affair of the night and a very good one at that. Topology led throughout here last week to score and should only improve again. Shaun’s Entity has been in terrific form over the 600m and is stepping up to the 731m here, if he can run the extra trip he would take a power of beating, add the Gavin Harris trained pair for the first four Box Up 2.4.5.7.
Race 5 - This appears to be a wide-open affair and it makes for a very interesting betting race, when in doubt go with the box draw so we will have a little wager on the John Mundy trained Octane Sadie down on the rails, she has been racing well in simular company and will be doing her best work late. Victa Ollie has good short course form and if we add in Jolene Marlow we should go close to getting the trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.7.
Race 6 - The Christmas Cup and as mentioned earlier it is certainly a top-class affair, the pace will come from High Eden Frost and Slippers Time both are racing well but will need to hold off the fast finishing Hukanui and the youngster of the field Zinfandel Zara who looks to have a big future. Add in the well-travelled Pyredos Monelli. Box Up 1.4.7.8.
Race 7 - Gangalla Fury missed the start here last week when unplaced, he can bounce back tonight with a couple of moderate beginner’s down on his inside. Becky Bale and Jays Ace will be the two that will be rattling home late. Box Up 3.4.5.6.
Race 8 - Winning form is good form and the two to follow in this are Jimmy McBain and Alpha Alexander, both have been racing well and will be right in the finish. Aston Kody has fair Gawler form but when on song is very capable. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.
Race 9 - I get told a lot not to make a “Song and Dance” about it so I’m picking her in this, she has been racing well from poor draws and should be able to lead and win for mine. Marco Lee and Blonde Barbados for the minors. Box Up 1.2.4.10.
Race 10 - This is the 600m of the night and I like Zero Knockin’ for the Rasmussen kennel, he loves this trip and should be on the pace early. Mo Town Roy is the BIG danger and is well drawn out in the pink. Box Up 1.2.4.8.
Race 11 - Angela Modra has a handy one in Sutton Nicky, she has won 5 from 13 along with the 2 placings, from box 2 she can send us home on a winning note. Blue Murray and Matriculate can run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.3.7.

CHRISTMAS CUP TONIGHT
The highlight on tonight’s 11 event program at Angle Park will be the 2017 Christmas Cup featuring a top line up of sprinters.
Only a small field of 6 are greeting the starter, but what a line up with High Eden Frost, Hukanui, Slipper’s Time, Pyredos Monelli, Hot Marlow stepping up to open company and the youngster of the group Zinfandel Zara who showed her class winning the Doug Payne feature recently. They will all be doing battle in the final feature before the New Year Year. There will be a rug and trophy presentation after the race so good luck to all connections.
CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR TRAINERS TONIGHT
As part of the Christmas spirit GRSA will provide a bottle of Hardy’s Shiraz or Sav Blanc to our trainers who have greyhounds engaged tonight when they collect their Trainers fee. It’s a choice of red or white however when one is gone then the other will be provided so get in early to make your choice.
SCRATCHINGS FOR CHRISTMAS EVE DAY AND BOXING DAY

PRIZEMONEY PAYMENTS OVER CHRISTMAS

BREEDER SUPPORT CHANGES
A number of registered breeders were involved in recent focus groups to discuss the challenges facing that industry group and the opportunities that exist for GRSA to support a more viable opportunity for participation in this area.
The Board reviewed that feedback and has identified a number of initiatives that will be implemented progressively, with a number of those coming into effect from January 1.
The first phase of that framework will commence with the introduction of the following support strategies:
• 100% increase to the breeder component of the SA Bred Scheme from July 1, 2019 (which will impact more recent litters and all future breeding activity)
• The introduction of a subsidy of $30 per week for any retired greyhound on the waiting list to go into GAP that is being kept on a Trainer’s or Owner’s approved premises from January 1, 2018 commencing from the start of the 7th week on the list post-retirement. Existing arrangements around subsidised boarding will remain unchanged.
• An increase to the average Breeders’ Support Payment by 40% through the introduction of a fixed payment of $100 per pup for litters whelped after January 1, 2018
• The elimination of fees for notice of service, litter registration and naming from January 1, 2018
• An increase to the subsidy for DNA testing of breeding females to cover the full cost of (approximately) $180 from January 1, 2018
• A cap on the cost of sire registration of $500 with the remainder being reimbursed by way of subsidy from January 1, 2018
• Expansion of the Superbonus scheme in line with consultation with the ICG from January 1, 2018
NEW RACE TRACK LIGHTING FOR ANGLE PARK IN MID JANUARY
The lights at Angle Park have been in place for a very long time and are in desperate need of replacing.
For GRSA to do this it is going to take a number of days to be completed resulting in a few Angle Park meetings not being conducted in mid-January. On Monday night the 15th January the meeting will now be conducted at Strathalbyn with Monday night prizemoney. For the meeting on Wednesday the 17th January, the meeting will now be at Gawler during the day. There will be NO trials at Angle Park on Tuesday night 16th January due to the work being conducted however GRSA will conduct another trial session at Gawler on Monday 15th January in the morning.
Racing Date changes -

GRSA thanks both the Gawler and Strathalbyn Greyhound Racing Clubs for their support in these racing date changes
SYNDICATION INTEREST FROM TRAINERS
Greyhound Racing SA is interested in gaining feedback from trainers who would be interested in having their details made available to any prospective syndicate groups.
GRSA receives a number of query’s from owners about getting involved with their friends however it is quite hard for them to find a trainer. Those trainers who are comfortable with this please respond to Shaun Mathieson via email [email protected] or phone (08) 8243 7100. These details would be only made available to syndicate groups.

ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER FROM 11.30AM
GRSA received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions.
This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.
· To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings. However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions. It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.
Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.
· It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.
NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS
Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)).
This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred. We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.
Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”. This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound. It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.
TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN
All bookings for normal trials will be taken by the Club. As they do on Wednesday nights they will now also take the bookings for Friday nights.
You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials. All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials. GRSA thanks the support of Yvonne and the Strathalbyn GRC in regard to these changes.
The following dates are for the next trial sessions at Strathalbyn -
