Angle Park - Thursday Preview - 14/12/17
by The Shadow
With only two weeks to go until Christmas we need to get on the front foot early and back a few winners, it looks to be a terrific night of racing and I think there are some value bets throughout the night. Don’t forget all races are Trifecta and First Four events with the guaranteed $10,000 jackpot Trifecta pool on race 1 a huge bonus.
Race 1 - There is a lot of early pace in this and we will go with last start winner in Hot Marlow from box 3, he broke 30 seconds in winning by over 7L and is a chance of going to the front in this. Hurucan and Zellman are racing well and will finish in the mix. Box Up 1.3.4.6.
Race 2 - This is a wide-open affair and I like one here at good odds in Aberlour down in box 1 for the Kim Johnstone kennel, he has been placed in 3 of his last 5 and is capable of surprising from the rails draw. Victa Ollie has terrific short course form and we can’t leave out the inform Octane Sadie who will be rattling home late. Box Up 1.2.5.6.
Race 3 - There looks to be at least 6 chances in this so it makes for a terrific Trifecta and First Four bet. Zipping Olga has been placed here in 3 of her last 5 starts but is a little hit and miss on box rise. Cinnamon Rose and Nut And Bolt both appear chances on recent form and have early pace. One at huge odds is Dinky Man out in box 7 he won here Monday night from a wide draw and is more than capable with a clear run. Box Up 3.4.6.7.
Race 4 - With 6 runners in the distance event of the night it makes for a very interesting race as Acheron should start the punters elect out in box 8, he has excellent form since transferring to SA and will be running on strongly. Springvale Carla has won her past 2 here and should be able to kick up early and will be right in the finish. Box Up 1.4.5.8.
Race 5 - Gangalla Fury has hit a purple patch of form and he has won his last 4 here and Gawler all in terrific fashion, all from a range of box draws, he is our top pick again. Rip It Ralph is our value runner as he will be doing his best work late and add in the pacey Lonely Cowboy who loves a wide draw. Box Up 3.4.7.8.
Race 6 - We continue our theme of wide open affairs and this is definitely a ripper, Jimmy McBain continues to find the line at good odds and looks a chance again despite his awkward draw. Rockstar Lisa has pace and won’t be far away when it counts. Add Aston Hinkley who is better than recent form suggests. Box Up 1.2.4.5.
Race 7 - Winning form is good form and Cairnlea Kenny has won 4 of his last 5 and two of them were from this draw, on that he sure looks the measuring stick once again. The Ben Rawlings trained Pyredos Monelli certainly has his fair share of talent and flew home late last start to run 3rd at Wentworth Park ,if the trip didn’t bother him he is right in this. Add in Hukanui who is very smart when on song for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.3.5.7.
Race 8 - Robyn Mackellar has Alpha Alexander in good form and he led throughout here last start for a 30.03 win from box 4 he has the pace to lead again so we will make him our top pick. Rock Away from the Rasmussen kennel can run a cheeky race as can Mr. Arjay. Box Up 2.3.7.9.
Race 9 - This is the 600m of the night and its very hard to go past the inform Shaun’s Entity in box 5, he has won his last 5 over this trip including a slick 35.03 here last start. The big danger looks to be the Strathalbyn Cup winner Spring Bloom who ran on well here last week to finish 2nd. Box Up 1.4.5.7.
Race 10 – Here’s my roughie for the night and that is Blu Light Banjo,” Why you might ask” well she can lead the inside brigade and with an ounce of luck she might be able to pinch this into the back; the dangers will come from Garry McBain, Zipping Zeus and Springvale Bryne. Box Up 1.4.6.7.
Race 11 - There look to be two main chances in Song And Dance and Greysynd Ebony, both have early pace and are racing well. Box Up 1.2.3.4.

GRSA RACING OFFICE TONIGHT – TRAINERS FEE PAID UPSTAIRS
Due to staff being unavailable for the GRSA Racing Office tonight the Trainers Fee will be paid upstairs in the Bistro Bar area, just like on a Monday night. I appreciate the assistance of the Hospitality staff on what will be a very busy night for them to accommodate this at such short notice.
To assist participants the Racing Office will be open but will be unattended. Fields and Results will be available as normal however to purchase a Race Book this can be done upstairs.
With Futurity Payments due tomorrow I would encourage this to be done during office hours however it can be left in the nomination box in an envelope with staff processing tomorrow. This would be the same for any other paperwork needing to be lodged or any payment required.
KURT DONSBERG AVAILABILITY TONIGHT
On course Photographer Kurt Donsberg will be delayed in attending the race meeting tonight due to personal commitment.
He will be oncourse around race 3 or 4. To assist participants before Kurt arrives GRSA will allow camera and/or mobile phone use for presentation photos for those who wish to take up that option for them.

Due to hot weather forecast in the Gawler/Roseworthy region this Sunday (17/12) the Gawler race meeting scheduled to start at 4.42pm (SA Time) will now start at 6.34pm (SA Time).
GRSA has proactively moved the meeting in anticipation of high forecast temperatures on the Sunday and Monday in that region. The last of 11 races will be at 9.42pm (SA time).
Kennelling times will be from 5.15pm to 6.00pm (SA time).
GRSA appreciates the support of Sky Racing and the Gawler GRC for moving the meeting to a later start.

CHRISTMAS EVE (DAY) AT GAWLER ON SUNDAY 24th DECEMBER
It will be a big Xmas Eve, Day meeting on Sunday 24th December at Gawler with their final Sunday meeting before Christmas.
The feature race on the day is the $5,000 Golden Maiden Final, over the 531m which should be a great race with two excellent heats this Sunday.
Unfortunately with only 5 nominations for the 2017 Gawler Classic Heats the final will be run this Sunday as a one off event with prizemoney increased to $5,000.
All roads lead to the Northern Circuit during Xmas!

NEW RACE TRACK LIGHTING FOR ANGLE PARK IN MID JANUARY
The lights at Angle Park have been in place for a very long time and are in desperate need of replacing.
For GRSA to do this it is going to take a number of days to be completed resulting in a few Angle Park meetings not being conducted in mid-January. On Monday night the 15th January the meeting will now be conducted at Strathalbyn with Monday night prizemoney. For the meeting on Wednesday the 17th January, the meeting will now be at Gawler during the day. There will be NO trials at Angle Park on Tuesday night 16th January due to the work being conducted however GRSA will conduct another trial session at Gawler on Monday 15th January in the morning.

GREYHOUND OF THE YEAR ON FRIDAY 2ND FEBRUARY AT GAWLER 2018
The date has been set for the Greyhound of the Year function at Gawler on Friday night, 2nd February 2018.
It will be terrific to have our prestigious event at the Gawler venue again this year with the response from those that attended last year extremely positive.

Therefore, please ensure when lodging any paperwork eg, Transfer of Ownerships, Litter Registrations etc that they are fully completed and paid for and lodged within a timely manner.
ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER FROM 11.30AM
GRSA received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions. This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.
· To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings. However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions. It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.
Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.
· It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.
NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS
Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)). This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred. We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.
Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”. This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound. It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.
TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN
All bookings for normal trials will be taken by the Club. As they do on Wednesday nights they will now also take the bookings for Friday nights.
You can book trials via text MSG / or call Yvonne King at the Club on 0407 334 349 between 9am and 11am on the day of the trials. All qualifying trials will need to be booked through GRSA as per normal by 12.30pm on the day of the Qualy trials. GRSA thanks the support of Yvonne and the Strathalbyn GRC in regard to these changes.
