Angle Park Thursday Night Preview

Racing News

TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Tonight’s racing doesn’t get any easier but for mine it is a good night to have a punt as there will only be 1 or 2, at the most, short priced favourites that salute.

Race 1 and there looks to be a couple of chances.  The inside brigade are all well drawn so to kick us off on a winning note I have tipped El Party out in box 8.  He won on debut at Gawler over the short by a lazy 12 lengths and will only keep on improving.  The main dangers are the inside 3, so box up 1-2-3-8.

The second event and a lot of these are hit and miss early so it is very hard to pick the winner.  Tyson Willow loves a wide draw but we need to hold our breath in the first 50 meters as she can be on song or out of tune.  Winbrook is a class act when on the bunny and is a big chance.  Box up 1-2-7-8.

Race 3 and Senni Tony is in fine form and will be hard to beat if he can be close enough early.  Miss Avocet won here Monday and will be hunting up early.  Don’t forget Dyna Millier who loves to run a place.  Box up 1-2-6-7.

Book Of Shadows has returned to form and won here Monday.  She will need to be on song early to cross from out here so I have tipped a pacey type in Pepper Kahn  who can lead the inside brigade.  Box up 4-6-7-8.

The 600m event of the night and this is a good trifecta race with several chances.  The Todd Kelly chaser in Dream Choice gets the nod as she might be able to cross from her draw of 6.  She hasn’t missed a place in the last 3 runs and gets a chance to break through here. There is a heap of chances for the minors in Niamh Premier for Robbie Harnas and Steffi Mclaren who will be working home late.  Box up 5-6-7-8.

Race 6 and Victa Sam has the paw on the till.  He has found one better and just keeps on coming in his races.  Kaylarikki is the interesting runner as he walks early then storms home late.  Add in the pacey Ceduna Cruiser who is more than capable.  Box up 2-4-6-8.

Race 7 and Bogie Magic looked the winner here last Thursday but was beaten by Just Shine in the run home tonight.  He can bounce back.  Chemical Maker is more than capable and is drawn to get a good run.  Webster has been freshened and looks a good each way chance from box 7.  Box up 2-3-7-8.

Fire Tyson never gave a yelp here last start when unplaced but was in fine form prior and has the pace to cross from out here in race 8.  For mine he will be very hard to beat from box 8.  The inside 2 are the others that are in good form and can’t be left out of calculations.  Benchmark who bounced back with a good win here last start can show up along with Fair Change so box up the whole field.   Maybe 1-4-5-8.  Good Luck!! Top Race.

Race 9 and how good was his run here last week when he carved out a SENSATIONAL 42.92 run and that is Token McLaren.  He has won 3 of his last 4 in quick times over 600m and his last start win over the journey.  He will start a VERY short priced favourite and you can’t tip against him.  Box up 1-2-6-8.

There are 2 newcomers in this event and that is the inside two.  One is an ex WA performer and the other an ex Victorian.  Both have the form on the board but I will go with the box draw and tip Kalden Crixus who has won 4 from 5 and has a good turn of early pace.  Captain Clancey and Galaxy Snow are well in this and will give this a big shake.  Box up 1-2-3-8.

Race 11 and we will need to be well in front as this is a very open affair so box up 1-3-5-8.

Best Bet Race 5 Dream Choice/ Token McLaren but will be too short.

Best Each Way Race 2 Tyson Willow.

Best Roughie Race 11 Hahn Allen.

Best Trifecta Race 1- 1-2-3-8.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

WESTERN AUSTRALIA “GO LIVE” ON OZCHASE 2ND DECEMBER

Western Australia has advised that they will be coming “Live” onto Ozchase over the weekend of 30th November and 1st December to be fully operational on Monday 2nd December. This will leave only Queensland to join the racing platform.

Due to the transfer of data from their old system onto Ozchase there will be disruptions for our trainers over this weekend in particular for nominating online.

We have been advised that the system will be down from 3.30pm (SA Time) on Friday 29th November until sometime on Sunday afternoon (SA Time) so long as the process goes smoothly. With this being the case we have decided to move our close of nominations for meetings around this time to give our participants every opportunity to nominate and utilise Ozchase.

  • Angle Park Thursday 5th December – Nominations now close 9.00am on Friday 29th November
  • Angle Park Friday 6th December – now close 9.00am on Tuesday 3rd December.
  • Mount Gambier Sunday 8th December – now close 9.00am on Tuesday 3rd December.

These changes means we can release both the Wednesday and Thursday Angle Park meetings on Friday 29th November before Ozchase closes and we can leave Monday vacant of grading. By leaving nominations open until Tuesday for the other meetings every trainers should have an opportunity to nominate.

BRIAN JOHNSTONE HEATS

Yesterday (Wednesday) at Angle Park we saw the running of three heats of the 2013 Brian Johnstone (Group Three) series. We had 22 final nominations however there were quite a few scratchings yesterday reducing the field sizes. No doubt the highlight of the day was the return to the track of Group 1 Adelaide Cup winner and crowd favourite Ernie Bung Arrow who confirmed his outright favouritism for the series with an exhilarating win.

The results of the Heats were:

Heat 1 – Set The Scene (29.91)

Heat 2 – Farmeroo (30.00)

Heat 3 – Ernie Bung Arrow (29.66)

From this week’s heats, we come down to two Semi-Finals next Thursday night 28th November. Due to scratchings every greyhound that raced yesterday will be in the semi finals next week.

Prizemoney for each round is:

Heats $1,750 (inc. $200 Breeder bonus)

Semis $4,600 (Inc. $500 Breeder bonus)

Final $36,000

The breakdown for the Brian Johnstone Memorial will be: Total $36,000, First $24,500 (inc $1,000 to breeder), Second $6,500, Third $3,250 and Unplaced $350. The Final will be run on Thursday 5th December.

The final part of this series will be the Gawler Classic 2013 on Tuesday 17th and 24th December 2013.

MELBOURNE CUP FINAL TONIGHT

What a great night of racing it will be Interstate tonight with the running of the $500,000 Group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup Final. The race looks to be at the mercy of the Jason Thompson star Black Opal Magic who was super impressive in the heats.  He has drawn perfectly out of box 2 and looks very hard to beat however they just don’t give Group 1 titles away and the likes of Shifty Sticka (2), Peter Rocket (6) and Iona Seven (8) could easily surprise.

The other feature on the night is the Group 1 Bold Trease Carnival Cup for the stayers. This race does look to a great race on paper with the likes of Lucy Wires, Amity Flame and Destini Fireball all vying for the $100,000 first prize. The supporting program is also outstanding including the Cup Night Sprint which features Group 1 quality greyhounds in Tomac Bale, Gold Town, Farmor Las Vegas and Xylia Allen.

Patrons on-course at Angle Park will have full tote and bookmaker service on the Sandown Park meeting, as well as full coverage on Sky Racing. The Melbourne Cup is race eight at 9.26pm, while the Bold Trease Carnival Cup is race six at 8.27pm (SA Time).

SA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP

Owners & Trainers are reminded of the domiciliary clause on the SA Sprint Championship coming up in January. To be eligible a greyhound must have been domiciled in SA for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the time fixed for the finalising of nominations and drawing of fields. (Nationals policy adopted)

The $4,265 heats are scheduled to be run on Thursday 9th January, with the Final to be run on Thursday 16th January. Total prizemoney for the listed final will be $22,000, with the winner’s share of $15,000.

Nominations close on Monday 6th January 2013 at 9.00am with GRSA.

ANNUAL GRADING REVIEW PANEL MINUTES

The minutes from the Grading Review Panel meeting which met a few weeks ago have been sent to the panel members for their approval. Shortly GRSA will notify participants of the meeting outcomes and time frames regarding implementation with the view that by 1st January 2014 a comprehensive grading policy will be released and any new grading rules implemented.

Next month the ICG meeting will be held on Friday 6th December which will be the second one for 2013.The agenda is about to be released to the panel members. In January the Feature Race Panel will meet to discuss programming and racing dates and then in February the Professional Trainers will meet. In March the Breeding Task Force will reconvene to discuss all things breeding. Like the GRP current members of these panels will be invited to attend to put their points of view across to hopefully improve these aspects of the Industry. I will be contacting members shortly.

UPCOMING LOW GRADE FEATURE RACES

The next Low Grade Feature series will be in December with a Grade 4 series over 515m with Heats on 5th December and Final on 12th December.

Nominations will close at 9.00am on Friday 29th November

ANGLE PARK ON BOXING DAY NOW IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE

After a request from GRV and approval from Sky Racing we have shifted out Thursday night meeting on December 26 (Boxing Day) from a night meeting to a twilight meeting. This has assisted GRV with their programming of feature Group races at Sandown and Sale on this night.

Race times at Angle Park will now be around 3.18pm to 6.27pm. GRSA will look to increase the Trainers Fee for this meeting to assist our participants.

GRV have advised that they will look to assist GRSA with their programming in the future to “square up” this trade of racing dates. We would be hopeful of securing a Friday night timeslot sometime in the New Year.

2014 ADELAIDE GREYHOUND AUCTION

The Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club (AGRC) in conjunction with GRSA, will once again conduct the Adelaide Greyhound Auction in 2014.

For all greyhounds whelped between: 1st November 2013 - 31st May 2014

More information will be provided over the coming months, including details of nominator/breeder bonuses and the race series attached to the auction.

GRADE 6’S AT STRATHALBYN OVER 319M

After an initial trial of 319m Grade 6 events at Strathalbyn, GRSA and the Club will now have this event as an option at every meeting so even if Grade 6 over 319m doesn’t appear in the All Tracks calendar the Grader will still consider this race as an option on the Strathalbyn program. Greyhounds will be graded as either Grade 6 or Grade 5 so if your greyhound is a Grade 6 eligible greyhound and trainers want to be considered for Grade 5 or above as well they must state that on their nomination form.

SEPARATE GRADING AT GAWLER TO START IN DECEMBER

Very shortly GRSA will begin work with RAWWA to allow for separate grading at Gawler to be implemented in December. Gawler will be separated into two categories with Tuesday being separate grading to both Friday and Sunday. Greyhounds will keep the same grade that they currently have when Gawler is separated. GRSA will not change a greyhounds grade ie Grade 2 goes to Grade 5 for Friday. Please be mindful of this when the implementation will begin. I will advise the confirmed date next month but it will likely be in the later part of December.

Touch screens have also been installed at Angle Park to assist with race form every meeting.

Punters can enjoy the comfort of the Angle Park betting auditorium and it’s free to get in. No more hot or cold old betting rings after a long drive. Why not give it a try?

Please tell your thoroughbred friends about this outstanding opportunity. Save your entry fee and petrol and participate in the opportunity to win a free $50 betting voucher drawn on the day with Peter Damarell’s compliments.
