TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Race 1 on the programme is an interesting race to kick off the night with as there is a bit of speed and a couple who will be charging home late.  I have gone with Grainne O’Malley, she has the chance to cross here and will be hard to beat.  The old fellow in Young Snozz looks well suited and is a must for all trifecta punters.  Add in Restless Teddy and we shouldn’t go wrong.  Box Up 3-5-6-8.

Race 2 and the inside two look the main chances and that is Farmeroo and Stew’s Mistake.  Both are in good form I have gone with the box draw and picked the red.  He should be able to kick up down the back and looks a threat.  The other has pace and looks the pacesetter.  The other chances in the race are the 4 and the 8.  Box Up 1-2-4-8.

The third is a very open affair where we could nearly box up the field. I’ll throw you a roughie with the reserve Tyson Willow getting a run from box 8. He loves the wide draw and could be the surprise packet.   Box Up 1-2-3-10.

The Distance race tonight and Token Mclaren has been carving out quick times over the 600m and is making his distance debut here.  He should lead and win, and the extra distance won’t be a problem.  Go Caviar loves this trip and will be right in the mix.  Box Up 4-5-7-8.

Race 5 and the Gawler Cup winner in Bogie Magic is in outstanding form and his draw of 8 is perfect.  He should ping straight to the front and take a power of beating.  The main dangers look to be Just Shine and Dyna Hakon.  Another in form sprinter is Galilee Spirit but the poor draw of box 5 is the big worry.  Box Up 1-3-5-8.

Race 6 and the Ben Rawlings kennel is hot at the moment and they have a newcomer in Zipping Belle from WA.  She has won 6 from 30 along with 9 placing’s.  She is sure to be well tried at her first Angle Park start.  Book Of Shadows has been an improver of late and will be charging home along with Cawbourne Jet.  Box Up 1-3-4-6.

Ben Rawlings should have a good night with his charges and Dolmar has drawn perfectly down in box 1in race 7. He loves this track and looks the one to catch.  The main dangers are Modest Ruler who is in outstanding form along with Dee Dee Corsair who has a good turn of early pace.  Box Up 1-3-4-5.

The 8th event and this is a big chance for Springvale Cool to bounce back into the winners circle.  She was a big improver here last start and from this draw will be very hard to beat.  Red Tin has pace and is more than capable along with Fair Change who can carve across early.  Box Up 1-2-4-6.

Race 9 and the 600m event affair is a 2 dog race in Tercel and Cosmic Way.  One is slow out and the other is a leader.  Tercel should POUNCE straight to the front and win!!!  Cosmic Way will be right on his tail and be rattling home, it looks an easy quinella.  Add in Senni Tony who has been racing well for the trifecta.   Box Up 2-4-5-7.

Race 10 and Proven Odem has the draw and the pace to kick up and hold the lead.  I like Ya Ya Bing for Mike Giniotis as he will be running on late from box 3 and is right in this.  Box Up 1-3-4-5.

Race 11 and the ‘get out stakes’ but we should be that far in front we should have $20 notes hanging out of our top pocket.  Put it all on Talkalot Tears, she is a quick beginner and should send us home on a winning note.  Black Merlo can be in the mix from the draw along with Sniper Skills.  Box Up 1-2-5-6.

Best Bet : Grainne O’Malley, Roughie  :As It Goes. Best Eachway  :      Encosta Kahn

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

2013 DAISH IRRIGATION & FODDER STRATHALBYN CUP FINAL SUNDAY

After four terrific heats last Sunday the $6,000 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup Final this Sunday looks to be one of the highlights on the local racing calendar this season. The Club have drawn together an outstanding field for their main meeting of the year and a huge crowd is expected to attend the Southern Greyhound Raceway.

Last weeks heats were taken out by the Ron Schadow trained Victa Victoria who showed good speed and strength to lead throughout in a slick 31.06, Loveless Moment for South East trainer Tracie Price who surprised her more fancied rivals to lead throughout in a solid 31.39, Kalden Kurageous for Troy Murray who also found the early lead recording a handy 31.26 which was the identical time of reigning track record holder Right Time for Cameron Butcher who ran home powerfully from just off the pace to qualify in the final heat.

The Cup Final will be race 8 on Sunday due to start at 7.31pm (SA time) with full coverage of their 11 event program on Sky Racing 2. Also featured on Sundays program is the $1,000 Les Newton Trophy for Grade 6 greyhounds over the 536m.

GRADE 6’S AT STRATHALBYN OVER 319M

After an initial trial of 319m Grade 6 events at Strathalbyn, GRSA and the Club will now have this event as an option at every meeting so even if Grade 6 over 319m doesn’t appear in the All Tracks calendar the Grader will still consider this race as an option on the Strathalbyn program. Greyhounds will be graded as either Grade 6 or Grade 5 so if your greyhound is a Grade 6 eligible greyhound and trainers want to be considered for Grade 5 or above as well they must state that on their nomination form.

BRIAN JOHNSTONE HEATS – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW

The Heats for the Brian Johnstone will be run next Wednesday 20th November at Angle Park. They will be followed by Semi-Finals on Thursday 28th November and the Final on Thursday 5th December.

Prizemoney for the series as always is determined after the nominations close, but we have estimated four Heats, which will mean that a breakdown of; Heats $1,650, Semis $4,500 and Final $36,000.

*Nominations close with GRSA tomorrow (Friday 15th November) at 9.00am.

The final part of this series will be the Gawler Classic 2013 on Tuesday 17th and 24th December.

GROUP 1 MELBOURNE CUP HEATS TONIGHT

The action really hots up at Sandown tonight with the running of the eight heats of the 2013 Group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup. The Heats have drawn all of the current stars of Australian Group racing. Some of the big names that will be competing in the heats include recent Topgun winner Dyna Nalin, last week's four-dog Shootout winner Xylia Allen plus the likes of Tomac Bale, Spud Regis, Peter Rocket and the exciting Black Opal Magic.

Also to be run tonight will be the four heats of the Group 1 Solo Bold Trease Cup over the 715m distance. The heats feature the likes of Destini Fireball, Lucy Wires, Proven Impala and Smart Valentino.

Local followers can enjoy all the action at Angle Park on Sky Racing and through the tote and bookmakers on course. If you can’t get to the track the SA TAB will cover the meeting as per normal.

ANNUAL GRADING REVIEW MEETING LAST WEEK

The Grading Review Panel met last week to discuss grading issues over the past 12 months. It was a very good and constructive meeting. Currently the minutes are being prepared for the panel and then in December GRSA will notify participants of the meeting outcomes and time frames regarding implementation with the view that by 1st January 2014 a comprehensive grading policy will be released and any new grading rules implemented.

In December the next ICG meeting will be held on Friday 6th December which will be the second one for 2013. In January the Feature Race Panel will meet to discuss programming and racing dates and then in February the Professional Trainers will meet. In March the Breeding Task Force will reconvene to discuss all things breeding. Like the GRP current members of these panels will be invited to attend to put their points of view across to hopefully improve these aspects of the Industry. I will be contacting members shortly.

UPCOMING LOW GRADE FEATURE RACES

The next Low Grade Feature series will be in December with a Grade 4 series over 515m with Heats on 5th December and Final on 12th December.

ANGLE PARK ON BOXING DAY NOW IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE

After a request from GRV and approval from Sky Racing we have shifted out Thursday night meeting on December 26 (Boxing Day) from a night meeting to a twilight meeting. This has assisted GRV with their programming of feature Group races at Sandown and Sale on this night.

Race times at Angle Park will now be around 3.18pm to 6.27pm. GRSA will look to increase the Trainers Fee for this meeting to assist our participants.

GRV have advised that they will look to assist GRSA with their programming in the future to “square up” this trade of racing dates. We would be hopeful of securing a Friday night timeslot sometime in the New Year.

SEPARATE GRADING AT GAWLER TO START IN DECEMBER

Very shortly GRSA will begin work with RAWWA to allow for separate grading at Gawler to be implemented in December. Gawler will be separated into two categories with Tuesday being separate grading to both Friday and Sunday. Greyhounds will keep the same grade that they currently have when Gawler is separated. GRSA will not change a greyhounds grade ie Grade 2 goes to Grade 5 for Friday. Please be mindful of this when the implementation will begin. I will advise the confirmed date next month but it will likely be in the later part of December.

BOOKMAKER PETER DAMARELL ONCOURSE EVERY WEDNESDAY AT ANGLE PARK

Bookmaker Peter Damarell will be on-course every Wednesday betting competitive fixed odd markets on the full programme at Angle Park. Peter will also display all bookmaker prices from the thoroughbred meetings in South Australia and the meetings in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This is a major bonus for oncourse patrons as there will now be no need to make the long drive to Gawler, Balaklava, Murray Bridge or Strathalbyn as the very same bookmakers prices will be available at Angle Park every Wednesday. Touch screens have also been installed at Angle Park to assist with race form every meeting.

Punters can enjoy the comfort of the Angle Park betting auditorium and it’s free to get in. No more hot or cold old betting rings after a long drive. Why not give it a try?

Please tell your thoroughbred friends about this outstanding opportunity. Save your entry fee and petrol and participate in the opportunity to win a free $50 betting voucher drawn on the day with Peter Damarell’s compliments.

BOOKING NUMBER FOR TRIALS

Participants who wish to book trials have to ring 8243 7172. This phone line will only be used for trial bookings and will queue participants.  By having this one number with participants queuing makes this process more efficient for booking trials.  There will be NO trials accepted through the normal administration number.  To be fair to everyone GRSA will only accept bookings using the new number.  Please make yourself aware of the new number for booking trials.
