TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

It doesn’t get any easier from week to week to try and pick a winner but there are several I like tonight that can win, at good eachway odds.

Race 1 and this is an open affair with early pace from out wide.  Noble Kahn is in a kennel that is firing and will give this a big shake.  Add in Perfect Life who has drawn well along with Ikari Pedro.  Box Up 2-3-6-7.

On to the second and I like the 4-5-6, they all haven’t drawn that well, 2 of the 3 have a good turn of early pace.  Add in the Mike Giniotis trained Wats Foxy and they look the pick 4.  Box Up 1-4-5-6.

Race 3 and this race has pace and a couple that will be rattling home late.  Little Waz Bo is in outstanding form over the short and should be primed to run the 515m here.  Koubek will get a terrific run here and can’t be overlooked as he will be running on.  Fair Change is well drawn out wide.  Box Up 2-3-4-7.

Tough race this one and there could be a surprise packet in Springvale Cool who has been struggling of late and is a lot better than form suggests and from box 4 will improve.   Contrarian is a quick beginner and will be very hard to beat.  Box Up 2-4-5-6.

The 600m event is a ripper and it is very hard to go past Token Mclaren, who carved out a sensational 34.74 win from this draw here last week, so he should win.  The minors are Betsy Allen who is knocking on the door along with Dream Choice.  Box Up 1-2-4-6.

Race 6 and Dolmar loves a wide draw and the kennel won the Gawler Cup Final on Sunday and this sprinter can carve across the field and prove hard to beat.  The inside brigade should crash to the rails.  Box Up 3-4-6-7.

Race 7 and without repeating myself a race with run on types and pace from the boxes.   Modest Ruler charged to the front here last start from box 8 and won in 29.87.  There is no reason why he won’t do the same thing again here.  Cosmic Way is hit and miss early but will be running on strongly along with Senni Tony who is no stranger to causing an upset.  Box Up 1-3-6-7.

Race 8 and this is a very good race and the pace is all out wide.  Paua Is Lethal is well drawn and can carve across them early and go to the early lead.  Fire Tyson is racing well and will be very hard to beat.  Forget Encosta Kahn’s run in the Gawler Cup Final when he failed to beat a runner home.  Box Up 1-2-6-8.

The Ninth is the staying event and Mclaren Prince will be the one they have to catch as he has won his past couple here over this trip.  Husky Dreamer loves an inside draw and should be able to kick up and hold the early lead.  He should prove hard to beat.  Go Caviar is ultra-consistent and will finish in the top 3.  Box Up 2-3-4-8.

Race 10 is an interesting race but the inside brigade look to have the edge.  I still think it’s hard to go past Tyson Willow, who can kick up early and will take a power of beating.  Farmeroo is well drawn and loves the rails along with Long Gully Bill who ran a very good 2nd from this draw at Gawler last start in a quick time.  Box Up 1-2-5-8.

The last event and we should go home on a winner with the Murray trained Proven Odom.  He is quick early and keeps on improving.  Sniper Skills has been there-abouts but his wins are few and far between.  Box Up 1-2-3-7.

Good Luck Happy Punting!!!!

MACRO MEATS SHOOTOUT AT SANDOWN TONIGHT

A highlight tonight will be the running of the winner takes all $50,000 Macro Meats Shootout at Sandown which will be race 8 due to start at 9.12pm (SA time).

An elite field of 4 greyhounds have been assembled which includes last start Topgun winner Dyna Nalin from Western Australia who has drawn box 2 in the Shootout. The four dog format certainly suits him however it looks to suit the other three aswell. Punch One Out will appreciate the small field as she seems to find trouble in her races so drawing the red gives her a great chance of leading and with her brilliance she could prove hard to run down. Like Dyna Nalin, Xylia Allen will love the small field, she wont get too far behind from box 5 and with her explosive finishing burst she could be running home over the top of them. The final runner in the select field is inform chaser Banjo Boy who has won his last 4 starts and there is no better performed greyhound in Victoria than him right now. Box 7 could be the problem but he is low flying at the moment.

NO TRIALS AT MURRAY BRIDGE THIS SUNDAY

Trainers please note that the Murray Bridge GRC have advised there will be no trials at Murray Bridge this Sunday 10th November due to track maintenance.

ANNUAL GRADING REVIEW MEETING TOMORROW

As part of the GRSA Strategic Plan the Annual Grading Review meeting will take place tomorrow at GRSA with the Agenda released to the panel last Friday. A detailed Agenda will have the panel discussing many items. After the meeting submissions for recommendations or any rule changes will be made to the Board for their approval later this month. In December GRSA will notify participants of the meeting outcomes and time frames regarding implementation with the view that by 1st January 2014 a comprehensive grading policy will be released and any new grading rules implemented.

In December the next ICG meeting will be held on Friday 6th December which will be the second one for 2013.

In January the Feature Race Panel will meet to discuss programming and racing dates and then in February the Professional Trainers will meet. In March the Breeding Task Force will reconvene to discuss all things breeding. Like the GRP current members of these panels will be invited to attend to put their points of view across to hopefully improve these aspects of the Industry. I will be contacting members shortly.

2013 DAISH IRRIGATION & FODDER STRATHALBYN CUP HEATS

The Southern Greyhound Raceway will run heats of the 2013 Daish Irrigation & Fodder Strathalbyn Cup this Sunday. The Club received 31 nominations for the Cup and as a result will run 4 heats on Sunday.

The heats will feature many chances all vying for a spot in the final led by the Troy Murray kennel with 5 nominations including last start Gawler Cup placegetter Kalden Kurageous. Troy has won the last two cups with Kalden Mayhem in 2011 and Sometimes Speedy last year. Also nominated is Victa Victoria who ran third in the Gawler Cup and track record holder Right Time who looks very hard to beat in heat 4 after drawing box 1. The first two from each heat will qualify for the final with the two fastest third placegetters declared reserves. Good luck to all connections.

Sunday’s race meeting is a Sky Racing 1 TAB Twilight fixture with racing commencing at 5.31pm, with the last of 11 races due to jump at 8.42pm. With the excellent nominations the Club received we have ran the 11th race which will be broadcast on Sky Racing 2. The Cup heats are races 5, 6, 7 & 8 on the program, which are the 4 legs of the Quadrella. As an added bonus for the oncourse patrons the GRSA Stewards will conduct the box draw after the heats have been completed, this could be after race 8 or more likely race 9. The $6,000 final will be run on Sunday 17th November along with a Consolation of the Cup (trainers must renominate for the Consolation). There will also be a $1,000 Grade 6 Les Newton Trophy over the 536m and $1,000 Presidents Distance Feature for Grade 6/5 greyhounds at the track over the 762m where unplaced money will be provided for this race.

*Nominations for the Strathalbyn Cup Final meeting close at 9.00am on Tuesday 12th November.

UPCOMING LOW GRADE FEATURE RACES

The next Low Grade Feature series will be run tonight with Heats for Grade 5 SA Owned greyhounds over the 515m. The $4,265 Final will be conducted next Thursday night.

On Thursday 14th November we have added a Mixed 3/4/5 Veterans series to the program with Heats over 515m and the Final to be run the following Thursday 21st November. This will be followed in December with a Grade 4 series also over 515m with Heats on 5th December and Final on 12th December.

ANGLE PARK ON BOXING DAY NOW IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE

After a request from GRV and approval from Sky Racing we have shifted out Thursday night meeting on December 26 (Boxing Day) from a night meeting to a twilight meeting. This has assisted GRV with their programming of feature Group races at Sandown and Sale on this night.

Race times at Angle Park will now be around 3.18pm to 6.27pm. GRSA will look to increase the Trainers Fee for this meeting to assist our participants.

GRV have advised that they will look to assist GRSA with their programming in the future to “square up” this trade of racing dates. We would be hopeful of securing a Friday night timeslot sometime in the New Year.

SEPARATE GRADING AT GAWLER TO START IN DECEMBER

Very shortly GRSA will begin work with RAWWA to allow for separate grading at Gawler to be implemented in December. Gawler will be separated into two categories with Tuesday being separate grading to both Friday and Sunday. Greyhounds will keep the same grade that they currently have when Gawler is separated. GRSA will not change a greyhounds grade ie Grade 2 goes to Grade 5 for Friday. Please be mindful of this when the implementation will begin. I will advise the confirmed date next month but it will likely be in the later part of December.

BOOKMAKER PETER DAMARELL ONCOURSE EVERY WEDNESDAY AT ANGLE PARK

Bookmaker Peter Damarell will be on-course every Wednesday betting competitive fixed odd markets on the full programme at Angle Park. Peter will also display all bookmaker prices from the thoroughbred meetings in South Australia and the meetings in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This is a major bonus for oncourse patrons as there will now be no need to make the long drive to Gawler, Balaklava, Murray Bridge or Strathalbyn as the very same bookmakers prices will be available at Angle Park every Wednesday. Touch screens have also been installed at Angle Park to assist with race form every meeting.

Punters can enjoy the comfort of the Angle Park betting auditorium and it’s free to get in. No more hot or cold old betting rings after a long drive. Why not give it a try?

Please tell your thoroughbred friends about this outstanding opportunity. Save your entry fee and petrol and participate in the opportunity to win a free $50 betting voucher drawn on the day with Peter Damarell’s compliments.

BOOKING NUMBER FOR TRIALS

Participants who wish to book trials have to ring 8243 7172. This phone line will only be used for trial bookings and will queue participants.  By having this one number with participants queuing makes this process more efficient for booking trials.  There will be NO trials accepted through the normal administration number.  To be fair to everyone GRSA will only accept bookings using the new number.  Please make yourself aware of the new number for booking trials.
