Angle Park Thursday Night Preview
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
Well as we come to the end of another month of racing at headquarters, there are several good things on the programme tonight, but they will be very short.
Race 1 and the opening event do have several chances. If you are looking at form it’s very hard to go past Wiregrass who is in outstanding form with 4 wins on the trot. Her early pace is a bonus and she looks very hard to beat. Ikari Pedro for the Giniotis kennel is the improver from box 1. Add in Paua Is Lethal and Koubek who will be rattling home late. Box up 1-6-7-8.
Race 2 looks a tricky race. I have tipped Long Gully Court out in box 8, but she will have to be on song early to cross as she can be a bit hit and miss early. Victa Nicole is more than capable but has drawn poorly in box 5. Life’s For Living and Kev Bale can all run a place. Box Up 1-5-7-8.
Race 3 and here is the first of the shorties for the night in Kalden Mayhem. He failed to beat a runner home in the Nationals last Saturday but the veteran is back to his home track and should just win. Add in Uno Lesson and Miss Woods who is the big improver for the multiples. Box up 1-3-5-7.
Race 4 and the inside four runners are the ones to watch in this event. Call Me Chaos won at Gawler in a quick 30.99 last week and will be very hard to beat from the red tonight for the Rawlings kennel. Avatar Kist is the main danger along with Long Gully Bill. Box Up 1-2-3-4.
The 600m event is race 5 on the programme and is a terrific betting race. I have again tipped the inside three runners and have put Mad Monza on top. She will need to lead to win and tonight I think she can. Senni Tony and Curlwaa Hope will all be right in the mix. Don’t forget Max A Zillion who will be running on late. Box Up 1-2-3-8.
Race 6 and here is another shortie in Flying Tee, he has a ton of early pace and is in terrific form, he should lead and win. Benchmark will be running on late along with Jojan Stan and Carlos Tyson who is more than capable of causing an upset if there is trouble early.
Race 7 and it’s another good betting race with the book ends the main chances. Significant Bit returned to the winners circle last week and she is very much a confidence greyhound so she can win back to back tonight. Victa Sam has the red and should be able to kick up along the rails. Cousin Callum will be rattling home. Add in Cawbourne Flute who is no slouch. Box up 1-2-3-8.
This race would be the best on the programme and there are a heap of chances in race 8. Dee Dee Corsair gets the nod for mine as he can kick up and hold the early lead. Ali The Great is in outstanding form and is a credit to Ben Rawlings as he just keeps on improving and the draw of 8 is a bonus. Add the in-form Encosta Kahn who has a picket fence beside his name and they look the top three. Box Up 2-3-4-8.
Race 9 is a tough race and I have tipped a newcomer in Kalden Blanco. She is another from WA and has 3 wins and 4 placing’s from her 11 starts. The Dan Biddle / Troy Murray duo have had a heap of winners and she should kick off with a win at her SA debut. Grand Slam Sam won well here last start in 30.04 and will be right in the mix. Box Up 3-5-6-8.
Race 10 and it’s very hard to go past Tyson Willow who was a winner at Gawler last start in 30.90. She should lead and win from the rails draw. Hilltop Snow along with Tricky Nigel all has a chance of running into the top 3. Box Up 1-2-3-4.
The Final event is a hard one and we would need to be well in front to have a wager here. Box Up 1-3-4-5.
Good Luck Happy Punting…
JOKE OF THE WEEK
A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, “This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you.” The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks, “Which do you want, son?” The boy takes the quarters and leaves. “What did I tell you?” said the barber. “That kid never learns!” Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store. “Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?” The boy licked his cone and replied, “Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!”

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS SUMMARY
Last Saturday night at the Meadows was the place to be where the best greyhounds in the Nation put up a fantastic spectacle.
The Sprint series was taken out by the Victorian star Xylia Allen for master trainer Graeme Bate who made full use of the inside box to run home powerfully and claim victory. She was on target for the Group 3 Coffex Coffee Oaks next month however she has been given a few weeks off and hopefully we will see her for the Group 1 Triple M Adelaide Cup in October. SA’s representative Hope’s Up for Cameron Butcher was far from disgraced in a hot line up running a handy sixth in her first crack at Group 1 glory.
Kalden Mayhem was back on the National scene for trainer Troy Murray in the National Distance Final and a lot of judges were giving the SA star a chance at upsetting his more fancied rivals. Unfortunately he never looked like it and lost ground in the back straight when most thought he would be making his run. He was found to be injured after the event so the SA champ should be easily forgiven for one bad run in his outstanding career. Up and coming staying star Smart Valentino from NSW showed his potential with a blistering finishing burst to claim the National crown and looks to have a very bright future.
AGRA’s Neil Brown has compiled a comprehensive review of the National Finals which we have placed on the GRSA website along with the ARGA 2012/2013 award winners that were announced over the National Championships Carnival.
SCHWEPPES DERBY CONDITIONS
The Schweppes Derby series kicked off yesterday with two SA Prelude’s at Angle Park. The local Preludes had some very promising chasers engaged all looking to automatically qualify for the Derby.
The first prelude was won by Bogie Prince for trainer Ben Rawlings who continues on his excellent strike rate. Bogie Prince and Ben are in outstanding form and yesterday’s win suggested he will be a force in the heats in two weeks’ time. Bogie Prince ran a slick 30.14 defeating Galactic Impact by 6 lengths with Almighty Titan filling the minor placing.
The second prelude was won by Dyna Hakon in 30.02 who continues the purple patch of form for trainer Shaun Matcott. Shaun has been the leading trainer in SA for most of the last decade but his team are really hitting their straps and it is not uncommon for him to have regular doubles and trebles. Dyna Hakon defeated Woodnear by 3 ¾ lengths with Galiliee Spirit back in third place.
The first three greyhounds from yesterday automatically qualify for the Derby heats on Thursday 13th September however all greyhounds are able to be nominated for the series.
Thursday 12th September: Schweppes Derby Heats x up to 8 – 515m @ $2,960 each

COFFEX COFFEE OAKS HEATS NOMINATIONS CLOSE MONDAY
The Coffex Coffee Oaks this year is shaping as yet another high quality series with plenty of depth and form. If last year’s result was anything to go by we could hopefully see another SA victory after Hope’s Up’s outstanding victory.
Last Wednesday the highlight on the program was the two SA Prelude’s for the locals with the first three from the prelude’s automatically qualifying for the heats on Thursday 5th September. In wet conditions the experienced Fair Change for Todd Kelly won the first prelude in a handy 30.52 defeating Oogaboo Oz and Emerley Seniorita and then in prelude 2 Wiregrass for Ben Rawlings was impressive in leading throughout to defeat Hilltop Snow and Annie Walker in 30.55.
Nominations:
Remember nominations are open to all eligible greyhounds for the Coffex Coffee Oaks Heats which close Monday 2nd September with GRSA at 9.00am.
If nominating online please specify Coffex Coffee Oaks.

(Group 3 - $25,000, $6,000, $3,000, unplaced $200)
OAKS AND DERBY TRIALS
Our feature racing is really starting to heat up with the Oaks, Derby and Adelaide Cup all being run in the next few months. Recently we have been seeing the Interstate greyhounds coming across and trialing as a lead up to these big races.
On Monday night Flaming Frenzy and Miss Pugs trialed in between races for NSW trainer Justin King in preparation for the Coffex Coffee Oaks. Flaiming Frenzy went 4.54, 17.09, 30.14 and Miss Pugs ran 4.65, 17.32, 30.47 for the 515m journey.
Also on Monday night WA greyhound Front Knocka flew in to trial before the first race in preparation for the Schweppes Derby. His trainer Steve Withers was also flying out that night so considering the travel plans Front Knocka’s time of 4.53, 17.14, 30.36 was pretty handy.
Tonight there will be two greyhounds trialing in preparation for the Schweppes Derby. Lethal Three for Victorian trainer Mark Grima who has had 3 starts for one and two placings and Kalden Gambino for WA trainer Daniel Biddle who has had 11 starts for five wins and five placings.
Next Thursday night the Derby series will really heat up with possibility Mark Delbridge trialing outstanding chasers Tomac Bale and Allen Makoto in preparation for the Group 3 final series.
GAWLER SHOW DATES
The Gawler Show is this weekend which means we have not been able to race or trial at the Gawler track this week.
This will continue next week with a return to Gawler on Wednesday night (4th September) for their trials.
The remaining dates affected by the show are Angle Park on Tuesday 3rd September.
OZCHASE UPDATE
In the next few weeks Western Australia should be very close to coming on live with the Ozchase system with Queensland possibly going live in November. As I have already said once all states are on we should see some real progression in the system to help benefit participants, punters and administrators.
One item we have been able to fix this week was in our Form Guides/Race Book which was the winning margin for a greyhound. A greyhound that had won an event you could not tell how much it had won by because the margin came up as 0.00 but now that has been fixed so if it won by a head or by 10 it will be displayed.
ICG MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 6
Next Friday the Industry Consultative Group will meet to discuss strategic industry issues with their recommendations to be considered by the GRSA Board.
Also in the next month the agenda will be table for the Grading Review Panel. If you have any pressing issues relevant to these two panels please contact one of the members of the ICG so they can bring this up at the meeting or send in a submission to GRSA regarding grading.
GOLDEN BONE TIPPING COMPETITION
With almost 100 teams involved the “Golden Bone” tipping competition is in full swing. Last Thursday night was the first week of tips and with three more weeks to go many people from around the State will looking closely at the results on Thursday nights.
The reward at the end for the winning team is a greyhound to race for 12 months on their behalf. GRSA is very excited and happy to announce that Robyn Mackellar will be the winning teams trainer and that through her extensive efforts we have been able to secure a greyhound that should give the winners plenty of enjoyment.
Good luck and good tipping for the next few weeks.
MAIDENS FOR MONDAY NIGHT
Recently we have had to extend Monday night nominations at Angle Park regularly so we will now start programming Open Maiden events at Angle Park on Monday night over the 515m on the nights we do not have the monthly Maiden final. This started from the meeting at Angle Park on Monday 19th August with these races now updated in the current All Tracks calendars.
TRAINERS FEE FROM 1ST JULY
The Trainers Fee has started this month with $25 being paid per trainer and $5 per greyhound at all TAB and Non TAB meetings.
