TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Tonight we are back to an 11 event program and there is a good mixture of events that we will be able to back a winner or two.

Race 1 and let’s set the Benchmark of the night with a winner.  The Petar Jovanovic trained Benchmark from box 8, he has early speed and should be able to cross to the rails on the first turn.  Life’s Cool is another who has pace and either will be leading to that first turn or just of the pace and both of these runners can fill the quinella.  Koubek is the interesting runner as he will be flying home late.  Add in Go Harvey Go for the pick 4.  Box up 1-2-7-8.

Pandora Kist can bounce back and win race 2 tonight from box 7.  She has missed the kick in her past couple and ran 2nd at both runs.  She has her paw on the till and looks too strong.  Box up 3-4-5-7 and we shouldn’t miss.

The distance event is race 3 and appears very open.  The best performer is the Shaun Matcott trained Allen Bardolf from box 4.  He was a runner up behind Kalden Mayhem in the State heat of the National finals last week and he looks a big chance to break through here.  There are a lot of chances in this event.  Box up 1-3-4-7.

On to race 4 and its very hard to tip against the classy Galilee Spirit.  He led throughout last week for a slick 29.80 win from box 3 and will only keep on improving.  The wide draw is a bonus here.  Dolmar can run on his night and the rails draw brings him into the race.  Add in Fiery McBain and Niamh Premier for the first 4.  Box up 1-2-6-8.

Yes I am starting to repeat myself but let’s have a wager on Remember Cestria from box 5 in race 5.  She has been runner up here at her past couple and HAS started the favourite at both runs, we just need a little bit of luck early to crack it.  Box up 1-5-7-8.

Race 6 and this one looks to be a good thing and that is Bogie Prince from box 6.  He won at Gawler last start in a handy time and has a 30.03 win beside his name here last month.  He should lead and win here.  Add in Jeston Kist who will be running on and Speed Chick for the minors.  Box up 2-3-4-6.

Race 7 is an  interesting race with Carlos Tyson a big winner for us here last week at 3/1 and we can’t tip against him tonight after leading all the way in 29.96.  There is a heap of dangers in Jet Blast, Senni Tony and Cawbourne Flute.  Box up 1-3-7-8.

Race 8 and Encosta Kahn is perfectly drawn down in box 1 and a quick 29.95 win here last start, will make it 2 on end.

Wonder Whirl finally returned to form with a win here last week and should run a place here.  Add in Kalden Kurageous and Young Snozz to fill the placing’s.  Box up 1-2-3-7.

The 600m event is race 9 on the card, it’s only a 5 dog field so load up on Tercel. He led all the way for a 35.14 win here last week and will do the same again tonight.  Box up the other 4 but Kalden Komoto looks the obvious dander to run 2nd.  Box up 2-4-6-8.

Race 10 is a very hard race and the field should be 5/1 across the board box up 1-5-6-8 good luck in this one.

Annie Walker has been knocking on the door despite her draw of 5 and she can break through tonight.  Bo Flight has been racing well and appears a chance along with the newcomer in Amadeus Wolf.  Box up 2-5-6-8 in the final event.

Happy Punting Good Luck….

JOKE OF THE WEEK

Building Security has notified us that there have been 5 suspected terrorists working at our office. Four of the five have been apprehended. Bin Sleeping, Bin Loafing, Bin Gossiping, and Bin Surfing have been taken into custody. Security advised us that they could find no one fitting the description of the fifth cell member, Bin Working, in the office. Police are confident that anyone who looks like Bin Working will be very easy to spot. They thought they had apprehended Bin Working sitting at a desk, but it was actually Bin Surfing trying to impersonate Bin Working.

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

MAYHEM HEADING BACK TO THE NATIONALS

The 2011 SA Greyhound of the Year began slowly last week from box 4 and found himself back at the rear of the field as Cousin Callum found the front and raced away in the front straight on the first occasion with Allen Bardolf giving chase. Kalden Mayhem began to work his way through the field and began to close quickly on the leaders down the back straight. Alllen Bardolf ran to the front rounding the home turn as Cousin Callum tired out of the event and for a moment looked the winner for Shaun Matcott however the big blue dog ranged up and swept past him in the home straight to go on and record a stirring victory. Kalden Mayhem recorded a very handy 43.58 for the 731m in winning by 1¾ lengths from Allen Bardolf with Uno Lesson for Shaun Laffin flashing home for third a further 3½  lengths away. Kalden Mayhem who is a rising 5yo made it 57 wins from his 119 career starts, including 29 placings and career earnings close to $200,000. He represented South Australia over the Distance at the Nationals two years ago in Brisbane when he ran an outstanding third behind superstar Dashing Corsair and then was just touched out last year by Abdon Bale in the State final who produced the Run of the Year in SA to qualify. It is an outstanding training performance by Troy Murray to qualify Kalden Mayhem again for the Nationals and “Mayhem” will no doubt do SA proud on the 24th August at the Meadows.

HOPES UP CONTINUES ON HER WINNING WAY

Hope’s Up for Cameron Butcher booked her spot on the National stage when she made it five wins on end last week when she dominated her opposition in a brilliant display of front running chasing. She sizzled out of box 6 to lead clearly out of the front straight running her first section in a blistering 4.37 with the improved Ali The Great for Ben Rawlings giving chase. Hope’s Up railed hard whilst on the bunny and never really looked like losing going on to record an outstanding victory in a brilliant 29.77 for the 515m journey. She defeated Ali The Great by 3½ lengths who stuck to his guns nicely with Kalden Kurageous running another handy race for Troy Murray a further ¾ lengths away in third. Hope’s Up has now won 38 races from her 71 starts which include 20 placings and earnings just over $80,000. She won last years Group 3 SA Oaks and now has her sights set on the Sprint final at the Meadows.

TRIALS BACK ON SATURDAY BUT NO TRACK TURNOVER

Due to the inclement weather the track turnover for Angle Park will not take place over the weekend so the trials are back on Saturday morning. Due to maintenance work on the trainers car park gate trainers will have to park on the council land adjacent and walk through the small gate to gain access.

As a result of the cancelation our normal track turnover contractors will be unavailable until late October.  After consultation with the ground staff and the potential for more wet weather it is our opinion that the track turnover will now take place after the Adelaide Cup.

COFFEX COFFEE OAKS & SCHWEPPES DERBY

Owners and trainers are reminded that the Oaks & Derby at Angle Park are fast approaching. A reminder to trainers about the eligibility and conditions of both these series which has our races listed as one of the few AGRA Age Restricted Classics for the season.

The whelping date of both the Oaks and Derby is for greyhounds whelped 30 months prior to the heats so to be eligible for both series your greyhound will have to be whelped on or after 1st March 2011. The other requirement is that Maidens are ineligible so your greyhound has to have won a race.

The series will still be a two week series with Open Heats and a Final however the same as last year we will provide an opportunity two weeks prior to each series for locally trained and domiciled greyhounds to gain automatic entry into the heats.

The SA Preludes of both the Oaks and Derby will be run on Wednesdays with a maximum of 8 Preludes with the first 3 from each prelude gaining automatic entry into the heats. If your greyhound does not compete in the preludes or doesn’t run in the first three then this does not preclude your greyhound from the series and all you need to do is nominate for the heats as per normal for your greyhound to be considered.

The Dates are:

Coffex Coffee Oaks (Group 3):

$1,000 SA Preludes x 8– Wed 21stAugust (Nominations close tomorrow (16th August at 9.00am)

$2,960 Heats x 8 – Thursday 5th September

$35,000 Final – Thursday 12th September

Nominations close Monday 2nd September at 9.00am.

Schweppes Derby (Group 3):

$1,000 SA Preludes x 8 – Wed 28th August (Nominations close Friday 23rd August at 9.00am)

$2,960 Heats x 8 – Thursday 12th September

$35,000 Final – Thursday 19th September

Nominations close Monday 9th September at 9.00am.

GAWLER SHOW DATES

August means that it is coming up to Gawler Show time, so a couple of weeks racing at Gawler will be transferred to Angle Park this year.

This year the Annual Gawler Show will be held on the weekend of Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September. Racing on Tuesday 27th August and Tuesday 3rd September will be at Angle Park. These will be Angle Park Provincial (APD) fixtures with normal Tuesday prizemoney. Racing on Friday 30th August will be at Mount Gambier.

Trials will be cancelled at Gawler on Wednesday 28th August and Thursday 29th August. We will hopefully have the track ready to trial again on Wednesday 4th September, but this will be dependent on the weather over the show weekend. There will be no Qualifying Trials at Gawler on Wednesday 21st August, as the following Tuesday is at Angle Park. There will be trials as per normal at Angle Park on Tuesday 27th August and Saturday 31st August.

RIGHT TIME RECLAIMS STRATHALBYN TRACK RECORD

Trainer Cameron Butcher ‘s star sprinter Right Time reclaimed his Strathalbyn 536m track record last Sunday in a brilliant display of speed.

Right Time began nicely from box 1 to dominate his rivals throughout the event going on to win by 14 lengths in a sizzling 30.71 bettering the previous mark of 30.77 set by Rock Pepper.

Right Time held the track record from January last year until Rock Pepper’s performance in August this year. Right Time has been in sizzling form recently at Strathalbyn going with in .01 of the record two weeks ago and now looks one of the main chances for the Strathalbyn Cup final to be held later this year in November. Right Time has now won 15 races from 33 starts with 7 placings and prizemoney in excess of $13,000.

MAIDENS FOR MONDAY NIGHT

Recently we have had to extend Monday night nominations at Angle Park regularly so we will now start programming Open Maiden events at Angle Park on Monday night over the 515m on the nights we do not have the monthly Maiden final. This will start from the meeting at Angle Park on Monday 19th August with these races now updated in the current August and September All Tracks calendar.

TRAINERS FEE FROM 1ST JULY

The Trainers Fee has started this month with $25 being paid per trainer and $5 per greyhound at all TAB and Non TAB meetings. For weekday meetings this money is being paid out at the track at Angle Park and Gawler and we appreciate the assistance of the Gawler GRC with the dispersion of this money. Please make sure that Trainers collect this money oncourse at each meeting. For weekend meetings (includes Mt Gambier Fridays) this money is being paid electronically into Trainers accounts.
