TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Tonight’s 11 event card has a mixture of the three distances and the highlight of the night is the 2013 Champion Puppy Final, which is Race 8 on the programme.

Race 1 and there is a heap of early pace in this.  Flying Tee has won his last 5 starts all in good times here and at Gawler so deserves to start the punters elect.  I like the Todd Kelly chaser in Fair Change however at eachway odds who should be able to kick up from box 2 and is very strong.  Add in Contrarian and Little Waz Bo and that looks the pick 4. Box up 1-2-3-8

The second event and last start failure Kalden Kapone can make amends from box 7 tonight.  The Troy Murray trained sprinter missed the kick and was never in the hunt last week.  High Status is well drawn down in box 1 but his main worry can be his box manners.  He should hold the fence and run into the top 3.  Galaxy Snow might struggle to cross from the pink but is very strong.  Box up 1-3-7-8.

Race 3 is a 600m event and the vacant box will help the chances of Victa Victoria out in box 6.  She was a quick winner here last start in 35.11 and the wide draw suits.  Denya and Dyna Daina all have chances including Tercel who might be able to stay out of trouble in box 2.   Box up 2-6-7-8.

The fourth event and class should prevail here with Carlos Tyson out in box 6.  He can be ordinary on box rise but has a personal best here of 29.86.  Perfect Life for Kenny Gill has drawn the pole and looks a trifecta chance.  Box up 1-6-7-8

Race 5, the Veterans event and this is a very open affair.  Most have drawn the wrong side of the track and will need early luck to win.  Box up 3-4-6-8.  I have tipped the 4 Kalden Komoto who is racing well without winning.

Race 6 and the book ends look the main chances here.  One is in form and the other has been racing below her best of late.  Both have similar racing styles so I have gone for Wonder Whirl in the pink and I think she can bounce back into the winners circle.  Victa Brooke has won 3 of her past 4 and box 1 is a bonus.  She will start the favourite.  Box up 1-2-4-8.

Hope’s Up is well drawn in the seventh event out in box 8 and she can make it 3 on end.  Victa Sam, Emerley Lover and the speedy Fire Tyson for the minors.  Box up 2-3-6-8.

The Champion Final is race 8 on the card and it looks a two dog race on paper but how many times does one bob up at good odds and beat the favourites.  But not tonight!  The Kenny Gill kennel has a very handy one in Ernie Bung Arrow.

He has won 5 from 5 and has a tonne of early pace to cross from the pink.  He carved out a 29.94 run here last week from box 7 and will be very hard to beat.  Dustnado is the big danger but his box draw is the worry.  His form is faultless as he has won 8 of his 11 starts along with 2 placing’s.  Box Up 2-5-7-8.

Kalden Mayhem should win race 9, the 731m race,  but will start a very short priced favourite.  Box up 1-2-3-7.

Race 10 and this is a very open affair.  Shaun Matcott has a handy one in Dyna Alivia.  She hasn’t missed a place in her last 5 starts here and can break through despite the draw of 4.  If the reserve Linguist gets a start have a dollar or two on him.  He is very strong and this race suits. Box up 2-4-5-7.

The last race 11, and Emerley Magik can send us home on a winning note.  She has the pace to lead from box 3 and won’t get it any easier than this.  The other chances look to be Bomber Kahn and Zipping Woody.  Box Up 3-5-6-8.

Good Luck Happy Punting

JOKE OF THE WEEK

A lady walks into the drugstore and asks the pharmacist for some arsenic.
"Ma'am, what do you want with arsenic?" "To kill my husband."
"I can't sell you arsenic to kill a person!"
The lady lays down a photo of a man and a woman in a compromising position.
The man is her husband and the woman is the pharmacist's wife.
He takes the photo, and nods. "I didn't realize you had a prescription!"

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS

2013 CHAMPION PUPPY – FINAL

Tonight the $6,875 Champion Puppy Feature Final will be run after two exciting semi finals last week.

The first semi final went the way of boom sprinter Dustnado for trainer Steve Hoffman who continued on his winning way with his 8th win from just 10 starts. Starting at the prohibited odds of $1.10 he began well from the inside box to punch through and lead on the first turn and from there was never headed. His normal explosion down the back straight to race clear away from his rivals didn’t happen with both Tex Walker and Emerley Zodiak doing a good job to hang on but class told in the end with Dustnado going on to win by 2.5 lengths from Emerley Zodiak with Tex Walker close up in third. Dustnado rated 4.49. 17.00. 30.23 for the 515m journey and should strip much fitter for tonights final. The box draw has not been kind to him though, with the dreaded 5 box, however he will start the clear favourite and look to add to his impressive record.

On paper there looks to be only one challenger to Dustnado tonight who was super impressive in the second semi final last week. Ernie Bung Arrow for trainer Ken Gill kept his unbeaten record intact with a brilliant victory when he lead throughout from box 7 to defeat Galilee Spirit by 3.5 lengths with Mr. Punting a further 2 lengths back in third. “Ernie” made it 5 from 5 as he pounced on the early lead in a blistering 4.38 and then ran to the back in a sizzling 16.73. He was entitled to get a little tired at the end however he still recorded a flying 29.94 and stamped his claims for victory His chances were further enhanced after the box draw where he drew nicely out of the eight giving him plenty of room to use his exhilarating speed.

The Champion Puppy Final field in Box Draw order is:

1.  Mr. Punting                                   Simon Gesler

2.  Emerley Zodiak                             Peter Hurley

3.  Tex Walker                                    Karen Wittholz

4.  Tatiara Boy                                   Cameron Butcher

5.  Dustnado                                      Steve Hoffman

6.  Irish Angel                                     Terry Cahalan

7.  Galilee Spirit                                 Robert Isaacson

8.  Ernie Bung Arrow                         Ken Gill

9.  Striking Viking (1st Res)               Terry Cahalan

10.Emerley Pie (2nd Res)                    Peter Hurley

It will be race 8 on the program and is listed to jump at 9.11pm (SA time). Tattsbet have offered a nice Trifecta Jackpot on the race of $10,755 so the pool would be expected to get close to $60,000.

GROUP FINALS SATURDAY NIGHT

Two huge Group Finals will be conducted at The Meadows on Saturday night with the running of the Group 1 Hudson Pacific Maturity over 525m and the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship over the 725m.

After the semi finals and heats last week we are in store for two classic finals with an outstanding supporting program. The $100,000 to the winner Maturity is race 8 on the program (9.17pm SA time) and features high quality greyhounds in Hoover Jack, Schroder Bale and Dyna Nalin however I like Crump for Troy Iwanyk and around $5.00. He was a brilliant winner last week and is shooting for an extra $100,000 bonus if he can win due to his sire Superman.  The final of the $40,000 AWM Distance Championship also has brought together most of the best stayers in the land unfortunately dual Sandown Cup winner Irma Bale is second reserve after running fourth in the semis and is probably the only top stayer missing. With Proven Impala, Bell Haven and Destini Fireball there will be action a plenty however I like Dashing Red to get a nice run from the pole and be the blowout greyhound at around $16.00. It is race 6 on the program due to start at 8.27pm (SA time). All eyes will be at the Meadows on Saturday night!!!
