TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Not only has the flu hit the two legged variety, it’s also had an impact on our four legged friends.  A touch of kennel cough has been around recently which is why we only see a 10 event programme tonight however looking at the fields next week it looks like we could be bouncing back.

Race 1 and let’s kick off the new financial year with a winner in Good Asset Gets.  From her draw of 2 she is a hit and miss type on box rise, but the inside draw should be a big help and the Robyn Mackellar sprinter can kick up early and go on and win.  There are several dangers and they look to be Daryl Bale and Shaka Kahn.  Add in Jive Bunny for the pick 4.

On to race 2 and I like Umika Bale here.  The draw of 7 is a bonus and she won from this draw 3 starts back in a moderate 30.35.  Tonight she should prove the measuring stick.  Aston Zizzle and Sniper Skills can both run bold races.

Malcolm Hirtzel is no stranger to SA and has a handy one in Mineola County.  She has had 25 starts for 4 wins and 11 placing’s.  She was placed at the Meadows last start and can win this, the inside draw of 2 will help.  Clinga, along with Dyna Alivia will be running on and can fill the placing’s.

Jump on Wonder Whirl in the 600m event which is race 4 tonight.  She hasn’t put a paw wrong of late and is in outstanding form with 5 wins of late beside her name.  Mike Giniotis has her in outstanding form but she will be at very skinny odds.  Mark Of Love and Lektra Rhianna can run into the money.

Race 5 and Grainne O’Malley is perfectly drawn in box 1.  She can bring a double up for her kennel.  She is better than her past couple suggest and has a personal best of 29.78 beside her name.  Andrews Courage is working back to form and is more than capable, so look at the market and get value.  Trumby and Dyna Bruce will be running on late.

Laurie Cahalan has a newie in Zontea from over the border.  The draw of 5 is the worry.  Placed at the Meadows last start from this box in the middle of last month and is sure to be well tried.  Sneaky Spirit and Big Daddy Boy are the big dangers.

Race7 and this is a very open race with at least 4 chances.  Todd Kelly has Fair Change in terrific form and is dropping back to the sprint tonight.  I think the draw of 8 suits and can win.  Springvale Cool has box 1 printed on her as she continues to draw the red and is a big chance again, should give her trainer a bit of extra spending money for his upcoming trip.  Add the 4 and the 7 for the pick 4, box up 1-4-7-8.

Troy Murray should get a race to race double with Kalden Mischief over the sprint and Kalden Mayhem in the distance.  Both are very well suited in their respected races and it’s a chance for an all up bet.  Box up Race 8  numbers 1-2-3-7 and in the 9th 1-2-4-5.

The final event on the card should have leading trainer Shaun Matcott sending us home on a winning note with Maffy Bale who has drawn well down in box 1.  Her past couple have been VERY ordinary but is better than form suggests.  Don’t discard Dyna Keaton who will be rattling home along with Tenacious Tee.
