Angle Park Thursday Night Preview
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
What a great night of racing we will have tonight with the feature event being ‘The Howard Ashton Final’ which is race 8 on the programme. There are also two heats over the 600m, Race 4 and Race 6 for the Shane McQueen.
Race 1 - The opening event on the card, it is very hard to go past the Robyn Mackellar trained youngster in Dee Dee Corsair. He has very good form here at headquarters and with his early pace he should bounce straight to the front from box 7. The main dangers look to be Alessi Bale and Mark Of Love.
Race 2 and this looks to be one of the better bets on the programme, Victa Scott for the Shadow kennel. The locally bred sprinter has drawn well in box 2 and should prove far too strong. The main chances for trifecta punters are Issey Bale and Russian Fighter for Petar Jovanovic. This dog has his paw on the till and is ready to strike in the next couple of starts.
Race 3 - The third event is very open and there looks to be several chances. Box up 1-2-5-8 and we should nearly get the pick 4.
Race 4 - A small field in the first of the 600m events sees Troy Murray with Kalden Mayhem engaged. He will be right on the pace here as the small field will suit and he looks very hard to tip against. Fair Change looks the early leader but would need to be at her absolute best to hold off Kalden Mayhem and Prince Holyfield for third.
Race 5 and this is another open affair. I like Jet Blast as an eachway special. His box manners are a worry but he is more than capable with an ounce of luck early. Deadly Impact bounced back into the winners circle with a BOD win at Gawler last start and has drawn well out in box 8. Add in Miss Avocet and Avid Tyson for the trifecta.
Race 6 - The 2nd of the 600m heats only has 5 runners, which should suit Cousin Callum, so he should be handy early and prove too strong in the run home. Curlwaa Hope is in terrific form and will be right in this. Add in the pacey Kalden Komoto for the trifecta.
Race 7 is the FFA sees another Murray trained sprinter in Kalden Kurageous. He can kick up and lead throughout from the stripe. This dog has a big motor when on the bunny. Wonder Whirl for “young” trainer Chris Cotton (haha) is another who is smart when on song and has a personal best of 29.67 next to her name. Young Snozz will be running home well along with Linguist.
Race 8 - The Howard Ashton Final and there is a lot of pace drawn inside. I have tipped the Tony Lagana trained Fire Tyson who is in outstanding form. This dog has won 19 of 38 starts along with 13 placing’s and gets a big crack at the $24,500. Flying Tee has only had 12 career starts and is another with early burn. Cosmic Way has drawn the pole but his main worry is his hit and miss box manners. Good luck to all as it looks a terrific race on paper.
The last three events a 731m and two sprints. Box up 1-4-6-8 but Miss Woods appears a monty in the distance.
In the sprints I like 1-3-6-8 in the tenth and 1-2-5-6 in the final event.
Happy Punting!!!
JOKE OF THE WEEK
In the middle of a forest, there was a hunter who was suddenly confronted by a huge, mean bear.
In his fear, all attempts to shoot the bear were unsuccessful. Finally, he turned and ran as fast as he could. The hunter ran and ran and ran, until he ended up at the edge of a very steep cliff. His hopes were dim.
Seeing no way out of his predicament, and with the bear closing in rather quickly, the hunter got down on his knees, opened his arms, and exclaimed, "Dear God! Please give this bear some religion!"
The skies darkened and there was lightning in the air. Just a few feet short of the hunter, the bear came to abrupt stop, and glanced around, somewhat confused.
Suddenly, the bear looked up into the sky and said, "Thank you God, for the food I'm about to receive..."

2013 HOWARD ASHTON FINAL
Breeders 2013 reaches its most significant point tonight with the running of the $36,000 2013 Howard Ashton Final. The Group 3 event is the first of two Group events for SA bred greyhounds to be run in 2013 (the other being the Brian Johnstone later in December).
So far there have been two Breeders 2013 Preludes contested, with Victa Brooke for Ron Schadow winning the first Prelude and Fire Tyson winning the second Prelude. The three semi final winners have all drawn next to each other with Cosmic Way (30.11) in box 1, Flying Tee (29.84) box 2 and pre post favourite Fire Tyson (29.71) out of box 3. The run to the first turn should be very interesting. If the favourites find trouble then both Victa Nicole and Nicholas Jack have the class to take the major prize. A terrific effort by trainer Peter Hurley to not only qualify two dogs for the final he also has the first reserve with all three from the same Emerley Carlos x Ivory Kist litter.

As an added bonus for punters TattsBet has allocated a huge Trifecta Jackpot of $12,408 for tonight’s Group 3 Final with the pool estimated to reach more than $60,000. The winner of the 2013 Howard Ashton Final will pick-up a first prize of $24,500, which includes $1,000 to the breeder of the winner.
Breeders 2013 has one further series to follow the Howard Ashton. That will be the Gawler Breeders 2013 to be run on the 11th June and 18th June.
Nominations close Thursday 6th June at 9.00am with GRSA
SHANE MCQUEEN HEATS
The Shane McQueen Heats will also been run tonight and whilst it is extremely disappointing that we only received 10 nominations for the 600m feature series the quality cannot be questioned. The first heat features staying star Kalden Mayhem who won the Shane McQueen last year up against Victa Victoria and Fair Change with both Max A Zillion and Prince Holyfield eachway chances. In heat 2 Cousin Callum should start favourite from the red box however all runners in this heat have winning chances with Curlwaa Hope, Kalden Komoto and Tercel in great form and Interstate raider Mandy Keeping who should be kept very safe.
With only two heats tonight the first four from each heat will qualify for next week’s final which carries total prizemoney of $9,000.
KATAKASI VETERINARY SERVICES GAWLER FUTURE STARS FINAL
Next Tuesday at Gawler the Katakasi Future Stars Final will be run after two exciting heats were conducted this week. Emerley Lover from the powerful Troy Murray kennel won heat 1 in brilliant fashion and looks to have one paw on the trophy after he sizzled around Gawler track in a slick 30.63 for the 531m journey. He defeated Tyson Willow and Galaxy Snow and will be looking to claim a feature race after being run out of the semi finals of the Howard Ashton last week.
In the second heat Templeton Dancer for Alan Porter caused a mini boilover when she won at double figure odds in a flying 30.82 and is not without a chance in the final. She led most of the way to defeat Joja Stan and Emerley Zodiak with race favourite Pandora Kist still qualifying for the final after running fourth.
Total prizemoney for the Final to be run on Tuesday 4th June is $4,950.

The club held their West End Anniversary Cup Meeting in beautiful weather on Saturday, 25th May. Winner of the feature race was Kalden Beachley trained by David Hall from Kulpara. The unraced Blue Magic ran a very smart race, coming second to Eliminator in the first event of the day, the 447m Maiden. Another impressive second was Frosty Chompers, who finished very fast behind Coquihalla. Ludwik Trzeciak’s dog Closing Echo, trained in Gladstone also came first. I’m a Country Girl and Crazy Heart, both greyhounds trained at Whyalla were other winners. The closest finish for the day was between Streaky Bay and Grumpy Argument; with the Don Turner trained Streaky Bay winning.
