1ST SPLIT TRACK RECORD EQUALLED

The Angle Park track was on fire last night with the 1st split record of 4.26 held by Adelaide Cup winner Mepunga Nicky equaled by the Matthew Payne trained Ritza Ben in Race 8.  Ritza Ben started favourite in the Grade 4 Final over the 515m and after flying out of the boxes in a record 1st section he set up a winning break to go on and record a solid victory in 29.91 defeating Jet Blast by ¾ of a length who rocketed home from well back with Fair Change hanging on well for third.

Other blistering times on the night were recorded by boom pup Dustnado for trainer Steve Hoffman who recorded his third win from five starts when he easily accounted for his rivals in Race 2 running a brilliant 29.59 and Kalden Komoto for Troy Murray who continued on his winning way defeating a hot line up in Race 7 sizzling around the Angle Park circuit in a flying 29.76.

Due to normal maintenance of the Angle Park track the surface today will be power harrowed which will not affect tomorrow mornings trials however may have an effect on race times over the next couple of weeks while the track settles back down.

STAMENKOVIC IN SYDNEY TONIGHT

Leading local trainer Bozidar Stamenkovic will be in Sydney tonight chasing the riches at Wentworth Park with three of his kennel stars stepping out. The star of his kennel, Koombooyana Girl has drawn box 7 in Race 2 and should be further improved by her last start 4th at Wentworth Park a couple of weeks ago. She has brilliant early speed and is a winner of 16 races so she should be pushing forward and looks hard to beat. My Little Star is engaged in Race 3 tonight and has drawn a little awkward in box 4 however she is the type that always seems to be able to put herself in the race and after 18 victory’s from 38 starts she knows how to win. The least experienced of the trio Faust’s Forever has drawn perfectly out of the red box which should help his chances no end. He has broken 30 seconds at Angle Park previously winning 5 of his 12 lifetime starts and the Stamenkovic camp must have a high opinion of him to be in Sydney with his more high profile kennel mates.

MACKELLAR HEADING WEST FOR THE DERBY

One of the most exciting chasers in the State, Just Shine will be travelling across the Nullarbor next week in preparation for the Group 2 WA Derby at Cannington on 18th and 25th May. Just Shine has been in rare form recently recording a 29.66 heat win in the Anniversary Cup before finishing third in the Group 3 Final. He most recently broke 35 seconds for the 600m at Angle Park before easily accounting for Monday night company at his last start recording a slick 29.73.

He will be trialing at Angle Park this Monday night as his final hit out before heading West and will also trial at Cannington on Saturday (11th May) one week before the series starts. The Mackellar team has been in blistering form this season and she has decided to also give Dee Dee Corsair a crack at the big time and travel with Just Shine. Dee Dee Corsdair will also go around on Monday night however he is engaged in Race 8 on the programme in the Grade 5 Final where he will start a short priced favourite.
