Racing News

A 10-race program greeted punters last night at Angle Park with the stayers providing an entertaining race over the 730m journey to kick off the night.

Springvale Max, having his first start over the longer trip, and Bedrock Will set the early pace out front with race favourite stalking them not far behind. Going past the finishing post on the first occasion, Springvale Max was running well out in front but time would tell if he could hold out the more experienced stayers and on the back straight it was Bedrock Will who took over. Running home, it was Bedrock Will out in front and looked the winner before Springvale Rex found another gear and was able to run over the top to win in 43.00 seconds for Gavin Harris. Bedrock Will ran well for second place for Clint Trengove while My Mate Snow ran on well for Tania Foster ahead of Springvale Max in fourth who will be one to watch over the distance with more experience.

Double-double
It was a good night if you were a trainer with the initials TR last night with both Tim Richards and Tony Rasmussen claiming a double. Coorong Cam kicked off Richards' night in style with an all-the-way 7 length win in race 3 over the 530m trip. Jumping brilliantly with a first section of 5.21 seconds, Coorong Cam never looked threatened as he powered to an impressive 30.48 second win which was a new personal best time over the distance. He's All Purpose secured the double for Richards by a nose in race 9, just finishing the better on the rail ahead of Miss Free Reign for John Gale and Springvale Maddi for Gavin Harris in a fast, exciting finish.
Tony Rasmussen's Victa Alby continued his fantastic run of form with another quality performance winning in 30.46 seconds ahead of the fast-starting He's On Fire for Tim Richards who set a blistering first section of 5.07 seconds. Rasmussen's double came up in race 6 with Alby's litter sister Victa Marli who set a new personal best winning time running 30.52 seconds over the 530m trip.

Everyone loves a roughie
The most entertaining - and potentially lucrative if any punters got onboard - win of the night was Montana Lace for Don Turner in race 8 over the 530m. At the juicy odds of $19, Montana Lace started slowly to find herself out the back and tracking wide. However, down the back straight, the field seemed to part as if Moses himself was standing at the 730m boxes and Montana Lace was able to thread herself through some tight traffic. The run continued for her as she entered the home turn before copping a hefty bump which didn't deter her as she found the inside to coast to a memorable win.
