TELLING THE TAIL
by The Shadow

We kick off another month with a terrific night of racing at headquarters.  Both our AFL teams won last week plus the major win of Adelaide United taking out the Grand Final, so everything leads to us having a big win on the punt at Angle Park tonight!

Race 1 - The two main chances that we must put in the trifecta are Kalispell and the pacey My Boy Ollie.  Both will be up there early and will be very hard to beat.  Alderley Reform will be working home late and can add in some value.  Box Up 1.2.5.7.

Race 2 - Harbormaster has struck form with two quick wins here and the wide draw is a bonus.  The Kirin Corby kennel is on fire of late so he appears one of the better bets of the night.  Don’t Kid Me is drawn for a bold showing and Ray Fewings has this dog in fantastic form, so he will finish in the top 3.  Box Up 1.6.7.8.

Race 3 - This is the distance event of the night and a strong one at that.  We see Springvale Bryne for the Harris kennel in fine form as she has won her past two here in fine fashion.  Mobius was a slick winner over 600m here last Thursday and she is making her Angle Park distance debut.  Look out for a big finish as she will be high flying down the back.  Add in Mija Returns for the trifecta.  Box Up 3.4.6.8.

Race 4 - He is having his 98th start tonight and that is Gun McBain in the Todd Kelly kennel.  He is a super dog who has won 3 of his past 4 over the 600m, and the sprint event tonight from box 1 won’t be a worry.  Crisis Bale was a last start winner in Victoria at Sandown so he will be right in the finish with his early pace.  Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 5 - If you are looking for a dog that is in outstanding form, then look at Rhynstone Jetta for Martin Doyle.  He is getting quicker with every start and last week carved out a sensational 29.54 run here from box 4 and made it three wins on the trot.  Looking for dangers we will go with Fabregal who flew the flag for SA interstate, winning the Queensland Futurity and Check Yo Self for value.  Box Up 2.3.6.8.

Race 6 - This is a tricky event with the two main chances being Paddy McBain and Marlow Brown.  Both are very smart when on song.  Black Bottle is more than capable of causing a surprise with his early pace and will be at handy odds.  Box Up 2.5.6.8.

Race 7 - Fusaichi Kahn returned to form with a last start win here in 29.74 from box 2 for the Johnstone kennel.  He has a good turn of early pace and rarely runs a bad race.  Eduardo has struck form over the 600m and has a personal best over this trip of 29.20.  He can be hit and miss on box rise but with a clear run early will take a power of beating.  Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8.

Race 8 - Real Flash is returning from a short stint in Western Australia and when on song is very smart so she is a must for our top 4.  Scarp Missile has the perfect draw down in box 1 and has early pace.  Oakvale Destiny hasn’t raced since late last year and is one at value in a wide open event.  Box Up 1.4.6.8.

Race 9 - Huayra is a smart youngster who has carved out two quick wins in as many starts.  He has early pace and is boxed for a bold showing.  Little Milly can be slow early on his inside which only bolsters his chances.  Zipping Bianca is another with a good turn of early pace and should be right there when the whips are cracking.  Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 10 - The well performed Getty Bale can break her bridesmaid tag and win in a very open affair from her draw of 7.  She led here last start and was run down in quick time, but looks well suited in this event.  Izzy Go is a pacey type and will be in the firing line for a long way.  Add in Electro Bale who is drawn for a bold showing down in box 1.  Box Up 1.2.7.8.

The Final event is Race 11 - Coorabie can make it a big night for the Kirin Corby kennel if successful from box 6.  He has been runner up over the 600m at his past two runs here behind very smart performers in Eduardo and Mobius.  Back to the sprint here she can win at each way odds.  Fury Road was impressive at his SA debut when winning here from box 4 and should only improve.  Add in Pretostella and that’s our trifecta.  Box Up 2.3.6.8.

ADDITIONAL SUNDAY RACING FOR MT GAMBIER

The Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club has been given approval by the GRSA Board to run an additional meeting each month until the end of the financial year on a trial basis.

The extra Sunday meetings will aim to cater for lower class and maiden greyhounds as well as generally supporting the opportunity for trainers to gain a start which may otherwise have been denied to them under current scheduling.

The additional racing will be on –

Sunday 22nd May 2016
Sunday 19th June 2016

The club will continue to run their normal Friday meeting prior to these Sundays. Racing on the Friday and Sunday of these weeks will provide that extra opportunity once a month for those greyhounds unable to gain a start.

These meetings will be graded under these conditions –

  • The Mount Gambier GRC will have their main meeting for that weekend graded first.
  • Those greyhounds who gain a start in one meeting will be considered at the end for the other meeting allowing for greater participation.
  • There will be an opportunity for greyhounds to “Beat The Grader” allowing for the chance to win two races for only one grade.
  • The Mount Gambier GRC will program additional Heat and Finals to accommodate this pool of greyhounds.

PRIZEMONEY CHANGES FROM 1ST APRIL 2016

The following got approval at the February Board meeting to be implemented on 1st April 2016:

UNDERCOVER AREA AT ANGLE PARK

On Race Nights at Angle Park in the undercover area some children have been playing with basketballs, soccerballs/footballs and skateboarding which has been going on for years. However within the environment of Work, Health and Safety and due to patrons and participants who access this area to go upstairs to the restaurant or grandstand these activities will have to stop. Our security staff will advise these children that this can no longer be an activity conducted in this area.

Some of these children are from our participant base and we understand how easily they can get bored being at the greyhounds all night. GRSA is providing Nintendo DS upstairs in Chasers however we are requesting some feedback from industry in regard to what further entertainment GRSA could provide for the kids bearing in mind the surroundings on course. Please email to [email protected]

CHANGES TO PATHWAY RACING TIME STANDARDS

The GRSA Racing Department wishes to advise of the following changes to Pathway Racing time standards, which will take effect from Friday 1st April, 2016:

The methodology for establishing the Pathway Racing time standards was based on the average winning time in Grade 5 & 6 events at each track/distance. Following a request for an immediate review of these times (particularly at Mt Gambier), it was established that the information displayed on the GRSA website relating to average winning times was incorrect.

As such, the Racing Department has collated the correct information and has amended the Pathway Racing time standards accordingly. A further review of the Pathway Racing concept will occur at the end of the 6-month trial in early July.

Participants wishing to provide feedback on Pathway Racing are urged to forward comments to GRSA via email, post or through the GRSA closed Facebook page.

PATHWAY RACING FLATTENED STAKES

From the 1st April the next three months will commence with FLATTENED STAKEMONEY. The tables listed below highlight the difference in prizemoney levels.

It is extremely important that trainers MUST nominate for the Pathway Races with such a difference in prizemoney. If you do not nominate for these events you cannot be considered. The grader will consider greyhounds for normal events if you do not get a run in a Pathway event. It is recommended that trainers nominate for both Pathway and normal graded however if you only want to be considered for Pathway you must put “Only” on your nomination. Please contact the grader at GRSA if you require further information.
