Angle Park Racing Preview - Thursday 28th April
TELLING THE TAIL
by The Shadow
What a fantastic night of racing with the highlight being Race 8 the 2016 Breeders Prelude (2) Final. It has at least five chances but for mine, it is a race that is a must bet race as the First 4 and trifecta will be worth getting. Other races to follow are 2.3.5.6. All look very open and we can all have a good win on the punt with a bit of value.
Race 1 and it is very hard to go past the speedy Marlow Brown. He carved out a slick 21.94 win here over the short last start and despite the draw should take a power of beating. Dodger I Am will be rattling home late along with Getty Bale. Box Up 2.3.4.5.
Race 2 this is a very open affair and I will go with my each way special of the night in Shana Allen. She can be hit and miss early but will be flying home over the top of them. Play Your Ace is drawn for a bold showing as is Yeardley who should kick up along the fence. Box Up 1.2.3.7
This is the distance affair of the night and it’s very hard to go past the well-travelled Luna Jinx. She won in Western Australia last start, coming from near last when an odds on favourite. She will be very hard to beat on her own turf. Mija Returns is well drawn down in box 1 along with the pacey Invariably. Box Up 1.2.6.8.
Race 4, Fusaichi Kahn can jump to the front from box 2 and salute in this for the Johnstone kennel. He was only pipped on the post here last start in quick time from box 8 and is drawn for a bold showing in this. The main dangers if any are Regal Looper who will be flying home and Dyna Keitaro. Box Up 1.2.3.4.
Race 5 what a fantastic race this is over the 600m, Gun McBain just keeps on winning in tough races like tonights, he has the pace to lead again and it will take a very good dog to beat him. The chances are Brett’s Magic and Barelys Rhythm, if Eduardo jumps to the front it could be all over so have a small wager on him. Box Up 1.3.4.6.
Race 6 and the two main chances for my wallet are Sheeza Nitro and Allinga Val. Both are pacey types and will be looking for the early lead. One that will be making good late ground is Crazy Nitro as he walks early but from the rails draw is a roughie with a lot of talent. Box Up 1.2.5.8.
Race 7 is an interesting race as there are several chances. Wild Soul is well drawn and hasn’t missed a cheque in his last five starts here at headquarters, he is normally tardy away then unleashes into the back. Caustic Bale was a last winner here in a slick 29.53, but he is another who needs a lot of luck into the first turn as he is VERY slow away. Add in the high flying Coorong Kid who is well drawn out in box 8 and we have a top class affair. Box Up 2.6.7.8
Race 8 and this is the Breeders Prelude Final, we have several handy youngster’s engaged and I will go with Wilba Beast down in box 1. He has a good turn of early pace and should be right in the finish. Harbormaster is another speedy type but likes to scout wide, Team Roper has won 4 of his last 5 starts here all in quick times. Box Up 1.2.3.5.
Race 9 is a handy 600m event and we see Mobius step up to the extra distance where she has two wins from her three starts. The small field suits but she will be skinny odds. Add in Lucky Fergo and Coorabie for the trifecta. Box Up 2.4.8
The tenth event and early pace wins races, so we will go with Aston Coco in box 3. She looks the likely leader and can skip away down the back and hold on. Junner Bale will be running on late as will Earl Bale at good odds. Box Up 1.3.4.6
Race 11, Little Milly will send us home on a winning note. She loves a wide draw and was a very good winner here last week from box 7. Cape Tower has been racing well over the short and we can’t leave out Flash Of Hope, who is very smart when on song but is slow early. Box Up 3.4.7.8.

LOCAL NEWS
BREEDERS 2016 PRELUDE (2) FINAL TONIGHT
The feature on tonight’s strong 11 event card at Angle Park is the final of the $4,665 Breeders 2016 Prelude (2) Final.
There were 4 heats conducted last Wednesday with the Kirin Corby trained Harbormaster the fastest qualifier running a flying 29.61 just ahead of the Ben Rawlings trained Wilba Beast who won in a slick 29.65. Other heat winners were Team Roper (29.76) and Penny Maker (29.76).
With all heat winners drawing the inside boxes the run to the first turn will be very interesting.
The race is full of depth and no doubt we will see most of these SA Bred greyhounds carve out a handy career for their owners. Good luck to all connections tonight.
The next race in this series will be the Group 3 Howard Ashton, with heats to be run on Wednesday 18th May, semi finals on Thursday 26th May and the $37,500 Final on Thursday 2nd June. Nominations close on Friday 13th May at 9.00am.

FREE FOR ALL RACING AT STRATHALBYN
The Southern Greyhound Racing Club have advised that all scheduled trophy races (including memorials) over the 536m distance for the remainder of the financial year will be graded as FFA. This will hopefully encourage trainers to nominate for these features as they are Non Penalty events.
EXTRA PRIZEMONEY FOR STRATHALBYN FEATURES

ADDITIONAL SUNDAY RACING FOR MT GAMBIER
The Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club has been given approval by the GRSA Board to run an additional meeting each month until the end of the financial year on a trial basis.
The extra Sunday meetings will aim to cater for lower class and maiden greyhounds as well as generally supporting the opportunity for trainers to gain a start which may otherwise have been denied to them under current scheduling.
The additional racing will be on –
Sunday 22nd May 2016
Sunday 19th June 2016
The club will continue to run their normal Friday meeting prior to these Sundays.
Racing on the Friday and Sunday of these weeks will provide that extra opportunity once a month for those greyhounds unable to gain a start.
These meetings will be graded under these conditions –
- The Mount Gambier GRC will have their main meeting for that weekend graded first.
- Those greyhounds who gain a start in one meeting will be considered at the end for the other meeting allowing for greater participation.
- There will be an opportunity for greyhounds to “Beat The Grader” allowing for the chance to win two races for only one grade.
- The Mount Gambier GRC will program additional Heat and Finals to accommodate this pool of greyhounds.

UNDERCOVER AREA AT ANGLE PARK
On Race Nights at Angle Park in the undercover area some children have been playing with basketballs, soccerballs/footballs and skateboarding which has been going on for years. However within the environment of Work, Health and Safety and due to patrons and participants who access this area to go upstairs to the restaurant or grandstand these activities will have to stop. Our security staff will advise these children that this can no longer be an activity conducted in this area.
Some of these children are from our participant base and we understand how easily they can get bored being at the greyhounds all night. GRSA is providing Nintendo DS upstairs in Chasers however we are requesting some feedback from industry in regard to what further entertainment GRSA could provide for the kids bearing in mind the surroundings on course. Please email to [email protected]
CHANGES TO PATHWAY RACING TIME STANDARDS
The GRSA Racing Department wishes to advise of the following changes to Pathway Racing time standards, which will take effect from Friday 1st April, 2016:
The methodology for establishing the Pathway Racing time standards was based on the average winning time in Grade 5 & 6 events at each track/distance. Following a request for an immediate review of these times (particularly at Mt Gambier), it was established that the information displayed on the GRSA website relating to average winning times was incorrect.
As such, the Racing Department has collated the correct information and has amended the Pathway Racing time standards accordingly. A further review of the Pathway Racing concept will occur at the end of the 6-month trial in early July.
Participants wishing to provide feedback on Pathway Racing are urged to forward comments to GRSA via email, post or through the GRSA closed Facebook page.
PATHWAY RACING FLATTENED STAKES
From the 1st April the next three months will commence with FLATTENED STAKEMONEY. The tables listed below highlight the difference in prizemoney levels.
It is extremely important that trainers MUST nominate for the Pathway Races with such a difference in prizemoney. If you do not nominate for these events you cannot be considered. The grader will consider greyhounds for normal events if you do not get a run in a Pathway event. It is recommended that trainers nominate for both Pathway and normal graded however if you only want to be considered for Pathway you must put “Only” on your nomination. Please contact the grader at GRSA if you require further information.
