 TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The main race on tonight’s programme is the 2016 Shane McQueen final over the 600m which is race 8 starting at 9.12pm.  The race is worth just over $8,500 and the 8 runners all look to have a chance on their latest efforts.

Race 1 and the Rasmussen kennel rarely leaves the track without a winner and they can kick off early with Farhat Bale down in box 1.  Temalor is the obvious danger as he is well down in grade and looks the big improver Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 2, Westy Bob missed the kick here last week and finished midfield, tonight he looks the likely leader and if he pings it will be all over. Menzel Boys can be hit and miss early but is a must for all trifecta punters, add in Play Your Ace for value.  Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 3, this is a very open affair and for mine there are at least 5 chances, but unfortunately we can’t pick them all.  The improver will be Lisheen out in box 7, he will be handy odds.   I like Banker Bale down in box 2, he is very strong and should be at each way odds.  Add in Getty Bale and Junner Bale.  Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 4 and Emeritus looks the special of the night but he will be very short in the market.  He is quick early and should be able to pinch this, so we will make him the standout for the trifecta and first 4.  1 from 3.5.7.boxed

Race 5 and this is the distance affair of the night, I picked him last week and that is Bradley Bale, he finished 3rd but was well beaten.  Expect improvement tonight.  Danyo’s Tom should lead them up again and run a bold race along with Cris Tyson.  Box Up 3.5.7.8

Race 6, Ben Rawlings is another kennel who just keeps on training winners.  Wilba Beast is one of his stars and on last week’s effort winning here in a slick 29.66 he looks a Monty in this.  Kalispell is well drawn and can finish in the top 3 along with Mija Returns, who was a big run here last week at double figure odds. Box Up 1.3.4.6.

Race 7 and this is a tricky event, I am going with my old favourite in Coorong Kid, he should be vying for the early lead and with an ounce of luck he wins.  The big dangers are the pacey Crisis Bale and She’s A Looper.   Box Up 1.2.3.8.

Race 8 is the Shane McQueen final over the 600m, this is a very open affair so I am going with early pace again and that’s the Todd Kelly Gun McBain.  He carved out a slick 34.93 run here last week from this draw, leading throughout.  So we will put him on top.   Eduardo is very quick but can be hit and miss on box rise.  Zana Bale is the value runner from box 1 and if she is close enough early will be rattling home over the top of them. Box Up 1.3.4.8.

Race 9, the two main chances have drawn the middle of the field and they are Zipping Bianca and Aston Coco,  both have a good turn of early pace and whoever leads should be able to hold on.   Flash Of Hope has been the big improver in recent weeks and from box 8 might just struggle to cross with the pace inside but he is a must for the trifecta.  Box Up 1.4.5.8.

Race 10 and Molly Dobbs for the Jovanovic kennel is drawn to lead and win.  She has been mixing her form of late but looks a big chance in this.  Aston Morris is a speedy type out in box 7 and should figure in the mix.  Box Up 1.2.3.7.

Race 11 and Yorke Express can send us home on a winning note.  He has the perfect draw of 1 and should be able to hold the early lead.  Falcon Ute is ultra-consistent and will be able to pinch a place along with Night Rhythm at good odds.  Box Up 1.2.3.5.

VALE – DAVID GRAHAM SNR

GRSA was saddened to hear of the passing of David Graham Snr earlier this week.

David passed away after a lengthy battle with illness after suffering a stroke. David was one of the founding members of the Murray Bridge Greyhound track being its President for many years, right up until he suffered his illness. He was a dedicated hard worker for the Club. He was open to a chat and always had a good joke while waiting in line to trial on a Sunday Mornings.

He had great success with his great old dog 'Walk the Path' who he kept with him as a pet after his racing career.

Sincere condolences to David’s family and friend at this sad time. David’s funeral will be held at 1pm tomorrow at Minge Chapel in Murray Bridge for those wishing to show their respects.

The Group 3 SA Oaks and SA Derby to be run in September this year will be for greyhounds whelped on or after 1st March 2014 (30 months) however in 2017 this will go from 30 months to 27 months. The State series’ for SA will be held at Angle Park on Thursday 11th August for the Heats with the State Finals on the 18th August.

The most important date for local trainers to remember is the national closing date for entries. Acceptances for the National Championships will close with GRSA on Friday 22nd July at 12 noon. Nominations this year can be made the normal way either online, faxed or lodged with GRSA.

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the National Acceptance Closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhound’s status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

PATHWAY RACING UPDATE

In January 2016, Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) introduced the Pathway Racing concept, which aims to provide regular and ongoing racing opportunities for lower class and out of form greyhounds. Whilst the initial stages of the trial appeared very successful, the transition to a flattened stakemoney structure has not been as well received by participants as anticipated. In response to this decline in support, GRSA will implement a new stakemoney structure (refer table below), slightly alter the way races are selected and extend the trial period of the Pathway Racing concept to 31st July, 2016 when a full review will take place.

Another important change that participants should be aware of, is that the Grader will now draw all eligible greyhounds into Pathway races, unless ‘NO PATHWAY’ is stipulated on the nominations. As such, participants should be diligent when nominating for meetings where Pathway races have been advertised.

These changes will be effective from the Angle Park meeting on Wednesday 8th June. Nominations close on Friday 3rd June.

SUMMARY OF CHANGES – effective Friday 3rd June 2016

·        Increased stakemoney allocation for first place

·        Greyhounds will be included in Pathway Races if eligible (unless ‘NO PATHWAY’ on nomination)

·        Selection of races – greater emphasis on one trainer per race and worst to best form with SA Bred preferences included

·        Trial period extended to 31st July 2016

STAKEMONEY SCHEDULE (As of 1/6/16)

ELIGIBILITY TO COMPLETE

·         Pathway Racing events will only be for Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 greyhounds at the track

·         Greyhounds must have started in South Australia on four occassions to be eligible for these races (First starters and greyhounds with one, two or three starts will not be considered for these events)

·         Greyhounds must not have run faster than the below time standards at their past four starts:

·         Pathway Racing aims to ensure maximum participation, therefore the Grader will endeavour to include all trainers entering at least one greyhound, prior to including multiple greyhounds from the same trainer

·         Fields will be selected worst form to best form in the opinion of the Grader. The Order of Preference is not be used for Pathway Racing

·         Grade 6 and Grade 5 Pathway races will carry no penalty however where Grade 6 greyhounds compete in Grade 5 events and are successful they will become a Grade 5 at the track and ineligible for Grade 6 events at the track. (Normal rules apply for Maiden events)

·         Races will be graded on race wins where possible

·         Guarding will occur where possible

·         Pathway Racing to be run at Angle Park Wednesday meetings and Gawler Sunday meetings along with Mt Gambier.

NOMINATING FOR PATHWAY RACES

All eligible greyhounds will be drawn into Pathway races unless ‘NO PATHWAY’ has been stipulated on the nomination.
