Angle Park Racing Preview - 9.11.17
by The Shadow
I hope you followed me last week, we started off a bit shaky but found our rhythm and backed several winners around the 7/1 mark so let’s hope we can do the same again tonight. The highlight has to be the Distance FFA (race 9) where we see Bogie Bekim engaged, he was a last start winner at The Meadows claiming the Group 2 Topgun Stayers event. The kennel to follow tonight is the Petar Jovanovic team; they can go home with 3 winners.
Race 1 - We can kick off with an early winner with the Kenny Gill trained Windmill Haze, he is in outstanding form of late and is coming off a smart win in the Gawler Cup final. Allen Oregon will be running on so he is a must for the first four. Box Up 2.4.5.7.
Race 2 - I tipped him on his debut and he found early trouble and that is Buddy’s Entity, he can be hit and miss on box rise but gets his chance from his wide draw tonight. Charlie Chops is a run on type and has the rails draw, add in Miss Thursday for value in our top 3. Box Up 2.3.5.8.
Race 3 - This is a wide-open affair and I like the inside 3, we will make Hope’s Beau our top pick as he has the early pace and looks the likely leader. Sally’s Girl will be doing her best work late and will appreciate the inside draw while Big Col Prosser is having his second look at the track and is the likely improver .Box Up 1.2.3.5.
Race 4 - Molly Dobbs can bounce back in this, she has a couple of moderate beginners on her inside so she might be able to take up the early lead. Dyna Keitaro is very smart when on song and is a must for the trifecta punter as is Wheel Spinner. Box Up 1.2.7.8.
Race 5 - There looks to be several chances in this and it’s over the 600m so we will go with Topology down in box 3 for the Ben Rawlings kennel, he is very strong and should be able to stay out of trouble early. Winsome Summer loves this trip and has been racing well at Gawler in recent weeks as has Stitch ‘Em Up. Box Up 2.3.4.7.
Race 6 - The two main chances look to be Paua To Kapau and Tag And Release, both have early pace and should be able to settle forward from their draws. Stick Figure can add value for our first four despite his poor draw and we can’t leave out Jay’s Ace out wide as he won 3 out of his last 5. Box Up 1.3.5.8.
Race 7 - Cairnlea Kenny can return to the winners circle tonight, the Petar Jovanovic trained sprinter has been racing without luck in recent starts but looks well suited in this. Larrikin Locky won well here last start for us and has notched up 3 wins in a row so he can’t be overlooked on his recent form. Box Up 2.3.4.8.
Race 8 - This is the Leigh Rogers feature Grade 6 final over the sprint and there looks to be plenty of chances in this, we will go with the John Mundy trained sprinter in Highbury Hustle out in box 8, he has been in fine form of late with 2 wins and a couple of placings and he has good box manner’s so he should be very hard to beat at each way odds. Baa Man is another who has struck form and will come out running and will be right in the finish. Box Up 1.6.7.8.
Race 9 - This is the distance affair of the night and we can’t go past Bogie Bekim who has won his past 3 including the Group 2 Topgun feature at The Meadows last start beating the best stayers in Australia, he will start the WINX odds at a very short price favourite and win. Who can fill the placings? Velocity Lilly and Springvale Carla. 4 from 8.2.5 for $1.00
Race 10 - The Paula Hearnden kennel has been having a terrific run of late and they should get a winner here with Long Gully Pete down in box 3, he loves this track and hasn’t missed a cheque here in his last 5 starts. Phoebe Allen is tardy early and will be the one making late ground. Box Up 1.2.3.5
Race 11 – It’s always nice to go home on a winner and Cairnlea Strider shouldn’t let us down from his draw of 2, he found a heap of trouble here last start and can atone for his defeat from the good draw. Half A Mill can improve and run into the placings and we can’t leave the Gavin Harris trained Springvale Cooke out as she loves to fill a place. Box Up 1.2.6.7.

Should you fall under one of these categories and would like to join the Panel please apply in writing to myself at [email protected] advising the attributes you could bring to the Panel. ONLINE & PHONE BOOKINGS OF TRIALS FOR ANGLE PARK AND GAWLER FROM 11.30AM
GRSA received feedback in regard to the Online Trial booking process for both Gawler Wednesday and Angle Park Tuesday and Saturday trial sessions.
This process of online bookings is fully supported by the ICG and GRSA Board and will continue to grow over time.
• To encourage the move from 100% phone bookings to online GRSA made the decision to separate the booking times from 12.30pm, to 11.30am for online and 12.30pm for phone. This has worked successfully and reduced the number of phone calls dramatically. This encourages participants to manage their own bookings. However GRSA believes that the separation is now no longer required so both online and phone bookings will now be at 11.30am for trial sessions. It was decided to go to 11.30am due to the commitment participants have made to the online process and worked their schedule around this time being at home or near their device to book.
Whilst having the bookings at the same time the trial booking phone line will still be 08 8243 7172. No trials will be accepted on any other phone line; participants will be queued as normal and will not be taken before 11.30am. Our staff member will attempt to book your phone trials in a timely manner bearing in mind participants will be booking online at the same time. I would encourage all participants to move to the online process as this is quicker, easier and they can have the flexibility to manage the process themselves.
• It is important for all participants to realise that at any point from 11.30am when the trials open to around 3.30pm the day of the trial session (or day before for Saturday) they can log on or ring up and manage their bookings. They may be able to move earlier or later if there has been a cancellation etc, it really does provide an option if their time is unsuitable.
ANGLE PARK SLIPPING TRACK
With the warmer weather coming GRSA has increased the amount of water being put on the Angle Park slipping track.
The slipping track will have the sprinklers on from 1pm to 2pm daily. We believe this is the best time to water with the least amount of activity.
HOT WEATHER POLICY
A reminder to trainers with the hot weather coming to make sure they are aware of the updated conditions relating to the Hot Weather Policy.
This policy is available on the GRSA website and also at the track.
NOTIFICATION OF TRAINING AMENDMENT & CLEARANCE OF GREYHOUNDS
Trainers are reminded of their obligation to notify GRSA within 3 working days of a greyhound coming into or leaving their kennel (Rule 105(4)(i)).
This is a requirement for all greyhounds regardless of where bred. We have had a number of trainers recently put in training amendments late the night prior to nominations closing at 9am the following day, this practice can lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise the following morning.
Trainers are also leaving it to the night before nominations close to have greyhounds “checked off”. This practice can also lead to your nomination not being accepted or being unable to nominate online should any issues arise. It is therefore in the trainer’s best interest to have lodged with GRSA the training amendment and clearance of the greyhound a number of days prior to wishing to nominate the greyhound. It is not GRSA’s responsibility to ensure that the paperwork is processed within ½ hour, which is the amount of time available to have it processed before nominations close at 9am.
COMPLETION OF PAPERWORK
Participants are reminded of their obligation to ensure that when lodging paperwork that it is fully completed and payment is made at the time of lodgement. GRSA is here to assist should you be unsure of how to complete any paperwork however it is not our responsibility to arrange for its completion, nor is it our responsibility to ensure that it is lodged. Therefore, please ensure when lodging any paperwork eg, Transfer of Ownerships, Litter Registrations etc that they are fully completed and paid for and lodged within a timely manner.
BREEDERS SUPPORT UPDATES
In September last year in response to inquiries about the changes to the Breeders Support Program taking effect in April 2016 Greyhound Racing SA advised the changes below. These changes are in support of breeder viability and continues increased spending on animal welfare and integrity initiatives.
Changes listed below:
Breeder Support Program
The following changes to the Breeder Support Program have been implemented:
1. Combined claim limit of $800 for all veterinary and transport expenses
2. Removal of the advanced application process for the breeders rebate now that both sires and breeding females must be registered
3. Removal of the cap on litters in anticipation of national (tiered) breeder licensing
SA Bred Maiden Payment - $1,000 if whelped in 2016
The SA bred maiden payment rewards participants that get a greyhound to the track to win a race. GRSA has committed to dramatically increase this payment from $175 to $1,000 ($500 breeder/$500 owner) on 1st July, 2017. This will result in all greyhounds that are whelped in 2016 being eligible for this support.
NO TRIALS ON BOXING DAY AT ANGLE PARK
Due to staffing issues there will be NO trials at Angle Park on Tuesday night 26th December (Boxing Day).
TRIAL DATES FOR STRATHALBYN
