Angle Park Racing Preview - 8.9.16
by The Shadow
How good is tonight’s racing we have the Final of the 2016 Coffex Coffee SA Oaks, which is race 8 on the programme. Add to that there is $25,000 to the winner of this event. We also have 3 very smart heats of the 2016 SA Derby and to top the night off we see the champ in Worm Burner fronting a handy field in race 4.
Race 1 - This is a terrific event to kick off the night with, the inside two in Regal Looper and the pacey Are Ate appear the main chances. Both are in form and will finish in the top three. Add in Allen Dynamo and Just In Hodges for the First 4. Box Up 1.2.3.6
Race 2 - Mauricio has a ton of early pace as does Matilda Taylor, they have both drawn the squeeze in box 4 and 5 but they look the leaders and will fight out the finish. Skinny Bob can add some value for us in the First 4, he has solid form of late and can run a cheeky race. Box Up 2.3.4.5
Race 3 - This is the 600m event of the night and there are several chances. I am leaning towards the pacey Winthrop Flyer for the Fagan kennel. He might be able to skip away and pinch this. Able Chief will be doing his best work over the last 100m as will be Barlely’s Rhythm. Box Up 1.3.7.8
Race 4 - The CHAMP jumps from box 8 and that is Worm Burner, he just keeps on winning and his box manners have improved enormously, he wins again. Marlow Brown is a real trier and can run into the placings again along with Coorong Kid. 8 from 2.3.7 boxed.
Race 5 – The first heat of the Derby and the Kelvyn Greenough kennel has a very smart one in Weekend Bingle. He trialled here in a slick 29.43 and was very quick to the winning post. He wins again and should go quicker again tonight. Bossin It is well drawn down in box 1 and he has solid Victorian form. Box Up 1.2.3.4
Race 6 is the 2nd of the Derby heats and this has several chances. I will go with Ultimate Magic out in box 6. He won here two runs back in good time in FFA company and looks the improver. Who’s Got Class is a pacey WA visitor he has won 4 from his 5 career starts so we can’t overlook him. Box Up 2.4.6.8
Race 7 is the 3rd and final Derby heat and were getting on Kilty Express for the Dustin Drew kennel. He has won 10 of 27 along with 9 placing’s, he was very quick to the winning post in his trial and carved out a 29.88 run. He is another who will be improved with another look at the track and from box 1 will be hard to beat. Sassy Ginger is a very smart performer and is a former WA galloper. He has been in the money in 10 of his 13 starts. Box Up 1.4.6.8
Race 8 - Final of the 2016 Coffex Coffee Oaks and what a race this is. There were some huge runs here last week and one came from Fanta Bale for the Rob Britton kennel. She was checked from pillar to post and flew home to qualify when 3rd behind Brazen Bomber. Fabregal returned to the winners circle with a front running display and carved out a 29.71 run. Shelley Keeping has the perfect draw of 1 and in big finals that is huge. She rattled home to run 2nd behind Fabregal, add in my ROUGHIE of the night in the speedy Pepper Fire for the First 4. Box Up 1.3.6.8
Race 9 - This is the distance event of the night and there only looks three chances for mine. They are Springvale Bryne who will lead, kennel mate Luna Jinx which will be suited by the small field and Parsec Bale who will get back early then fly home out wide. Box up 1.2.4.8.
Race 10 - This is a good betting race and let’s hope we are in front as this is a perfect First 4 event as there are a heaps of chances. Wild Soul has been working back into form with a couple of placings here and is knocking on the door. West On Jorji is very strong and will be doing her best work over the final stages. Add in Hesa Jayclo who has won his past couple from wide draws here. Box Up 3.5.7.8
Race 11 and the pacey Hairy Hairdresser can send us home on a winning note. She led throughout here at her last start to win in 30.13 and can repeat the dose again from the inside draw. Allen Mondo is very strong with wins here over both the sprint and 600m, so he is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 3.6.7.8.

2016 COFFEX COFFEE OAKS FINAL
Last Thursday night at Angle Park we saw three terrific heats of the Coffex Coffee Oaks where the first two placegetters and two fastest thirds from each heat qualified for next week’s Group 3 final.
The first heat of the night saw Wynburn Toozie for Kel Greenough and Times Square for Chris Halse sent out equal favourites but it was the Brett Bravo trained Andrea Doria who spoiled the party with a solid victory. Wynburn Toozie showed brilliant speed to lead from the inside box running her first split in a sizzling 4.38 while Times Square found major trouble on the first turn putting pay to her winning chances. Andrea Doria who looked to be out of form on paper bounced back to her very best to run down Wynburn Toozie in the shadows of the post and claim a solid victory by 1 ¼ lengths in a solid 30.00.
Local hopes for Oaks success sat firmly on the shoulders of the Robyn Mackellar trained speedster Fabregal who stepped out as the clear favourite in the second heat and she didn’t disappoint. She ran to the lead early and saw of the strong challenge from the Brett Bravo trained Shelley Keeping to go on and win by ¾ length in a slick 29.71 to be the fastest qualifier tonight. Bell Air Mist ran home nicely into third place. Fabregal who competed in the National Sprint Final again hasn’t been helped with box draws in feature races drawing box 6 tonight however she is the only SA representative in the series so she will garnish plenty of local support.
The final heat was won by the Victorian kennels of Jeff Guy when Brazen Bomber upset a strong line up to run home powerfully to score by a head from the Jeff Britton trained Pepper Fire in a flying 29.85. Race favourites battled out the minors with Fanta Bale for Rob Britton edging out Cavalcade for Glenn Rounds in the run to the line and grab the final spot in tonight’s final.
After the box draw it looks an interesting race with plenty of speed out wide so the run to the first turn will be vital. The $35,000 Group Three final will be race 8 on the program and is listed to jump at 9.13pm (SA time).
The Final field in Box Draw order is:
1. Shelley Keeping Brett Bravo (VIC)
2. Andrea Doria Brett Bravo (VIC)
3. Pepper Fire Jeff Britton (VIC)
4. Brazen Bomber Jeff Guy (VIC)
5. Bel Air Mist Glenn Rounds (VIC)
6. Fabregal Robyn Mackellar (SA)
7. Wynburn Toozie Kel Greenough (VIC)
8. Fanta Bale Rob Britton (VIC)
9. Times Square (1st Res) SCR
10.Cavalcade (2nd Res) SCR
2016 BGC INDUSTRIAL CLEANING SUPPLIES SA DERBY HEATS
If you thought last week’s heats of the Coffex Coffee Oaks leading into tonight’s Group 3 final was exciting and produced ultra-competitive racing then tonights heats of the BGC SA Derby looks just as enthralling. The anticipation will be electric as some of the best young local sprinters do battle with greyhounds from Victoria and Western Australia.
Heat 1 which will be race 5 on the card due to start at 8.10pm (SA time) features Victorian Weekend Binge for Kel Greenough who trialled in a brilliant 29.43 last week up against Monaro Monelli for WA trainer David Hobby who also trialled and ran a handy 29.74. Both look high quality greyhounds but will be challenged by one of the better hopes for SA in Harbormaster for Kirin Corby who is shooting for his 4th win in a row and Victorian Bossin It for James Karamatic who had a box to box trial on Saturday morning and was an impressive last start Group 3 winner at Cranbourne.
Heat 2 is race 6 and talented Victorian Ultimate Magic returns to Angle Park where he ran a sizzling 29.72 a few weeks ago. The Anthony Azzopardi trained sprinter has good FFA form in Victoria so looks hard to beat tonight. He will be challenged by fellow Victorian My Silver Chisel for David Burnett who has made the WA Derby and Queensland Derby finals in recent months. He has heaps of ability and will be aiming to make his third Derby final appearance this year. Not to be left out are Paraphernalia who trialled super impressively last week for Jeff Guy in a flying 29.66 and WA up and comer Whos’ Got Class for Chris Halse who has won 4 of his 5 lifetime starts. He stepped of the plane on Monday and trialled at headquarters in 30.28 with 4.53, 17.22 splits however he should be improved tonight after a few days to settle in.
The last heat, which is race 7 on the program is due to start at 8.55pm (SA time) and see’s Group 1 Maturity winner Kilty Express for Dustin Drew the main player after drawing box 1. He trialled at Angle Park a few weeks ago in 29.88 and looks the one to beat. Victorian trained Sassy Ginger and Leo’s Gift have very good form to their name along with local hope Don’t Kid Me for Ray Fewings who is in the best form of his career after winning his last three starts.
The first two from each heat along with the two fastest thirds will qualify for next weeks $35,000 Group 3 BGC Industrial Cleaning Supplies SA Derby Final with the box draw being conducted oncourse after the running of race 9 tonight.
WORM BURNER SHOOTING FOR 13 STRAIGHT TONIGHT
Group 1 UBET National Sprint Champion Worm Burner will be shooting for his 13th win in a row tonight for trainer Cameron Butcher. He has taken all before him recently and looks on target for a big tilt at the Group 1 UBET Adelaide Cup series begging with heats on Thursday 29th September.
IT’S CLASSIFIED MAKES THE GROUP 2 CANBERRA CUP FINAL ON SUNDAY
Good luck to connections on Sunday in the Nation’s capital when It’s Classified for Troy Murray competes in the Group 3 Canberra Cup Final. He ran second in his heat last Sunday and with further improvement on the ACT track expect a bold showing from the son of Velocette and Abbadale Elle. He has drawn box 2 in a hot field with the race due to start at 6.58pm (Race 8 - SA time).
