TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Well I hope you all followed last week’s selections as you should have won plenty.  Let’s hope we can follow up and continue to build the bank tonight.  Don’t forget all races are trifectas and first 4 events. The kennels to follow tonight are the Cameron Butcher and Scott Feltus kennels.

Race 1 and I like one at each way odds in Coorong Kid, he is resuming tonight from injury and is well drawn down on the rails.  Mrs Bubbles will be rattling home as will Dyna Keitaro in the small field.   Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 2 - I like the newcomer in Crazy Barret from the Paul Fagan kennel.  He has only had the one start for a win over the short in Melbourne, he is sure to be well tried on his South Australian debut.   Thumb A Ride was a last start winner here and has early pace, add in Garry McBain who loves to run a place.  Box Up 1.5.6.7.

Race 3, Ken Gill should go home a winner with Long Gully Gilly out in box 8.  He missed the kick here last week and finished down the track, he can bounce back from a wide draw and looks very hard to beat.  Buzz Box is racing well and will be right in the mix, add in Dream A little for value.  Box Up 1.4.7.8.

Race 4 - This is a good betting race with at least four chances in the field of 7.  I will stick with Wilba Beast out in box 7, he should be handy in the run into the 1st turn and will prove too strong.  Marlow Brown was a terrific winner here last start in a slick 29.66 and should start the punters elect.  Box Up 2.6.7.8.

Race 5 - This is the 600m affair of the night and Disaaci flew over this trip two runs back when winning in a slick 34.97, a repeat performance would see him win again.  Add in his litter mate Tahlo, she is racing well and will run a cheeky race from box 1.   We can’t leave out the ultra-consistent Barely’s Rhythm as he is always around the mark.  Box Up 1.2.3.5.

Race 6, The Butcher kennel just keeps on racking up winners and they have Molly Be Nimble in fine form here.  She has won her last four starts here all in good fashion, she looks one of the best bets of the night. Trace Amount has early pace and is worth putting in the top 3.  Box Up 2.3.4.8.

Race 7, We will go with a newcomer from over the border in Allen Portland.  Now in the Scott Feltus kennel he has 9 wins and 18 placings from his 45 starts and is very smart when on song.  Crisis Bale is a lot better than form suggests and can’t be left out of calculations.  Box Up 3.4.6.7.

Race 8 - There looks to be four main chances, 3 have early pace and the other will be rocketing home late.  Are Ate looks the improver and is well drawn.  I like High Eden Frost out in box 7, the youngster has won 5 of 9 and is a reliable beginner.  Flying Mal will be right in the mix from the Murray Kennel.   Box Up 1.3.4.7

Race 9 - The Scott Feltus kennel has another newcomer in Allen Membo, he has had 14 wins from 62 along with 19 placings.  His past two wins have been at The Meadows.  He should be very hard to beat on his SA debut.  Prancer Dancer was placed here last week and can pinch a place again, add in Waynes Error for value.  Box Up 3.4.6.7.

Race 10 - Lachlan Brown has struck form with two strong wins here in recent starts and should lead and win again from his wide draw.  Mr Arjay hasn’t missed a cheque in his last five starts and will be right in the finish.  Miracle has the draw and will be doing his best work over the last 100m.  Box Up 1.2.4.6.

Race 11, The Cameron Butcher kennel should go home on a winning note again with Purpose Driven.  She ran 3rd here in the Brian Johnstone final last week behind her litter mates and only needs to step to win.  Lady Bale is a pacey type and is a chance of pinching this if she is left alone out in front and is worth an each way wager.  Box Up 2.4.5.7.

Gawler will return to the racing calendar this Sunday after close to 6 weeks out of action while the running rail and lure system was upgraded.

Trialling was conducted last night and this morning without a hitch so its very positive signs for our upcoming meetings. Not only has GRSA and Gawler staff worked tirelessly in ensuring a quick return to racing for such a massive job but they have also completed a full track turnover and landscaped a new empty out area for the greyhounds.

We appreciate the patience of our participants and appreciate the long hours our staff have put in.

GROUP 1 BRISBANE CUP ON FRIDAY NIGHT

After five heats of the Group 1 Brisbane Cup last week the Albion Park feature has drawn together an outstanding field of chasers to be run tomorrow night. Tony Brett has qualified three runners including Thirty Talks while Queensland’s top chaser Outside Pass also made it through after a brilliant heat win last week. Victorian Blazin’ Bomber also looks a top chance after he ran well in the heats last week but has drawn box 5 in tomorrow nights final.

The winning connections take home $75,000 so the final should be keenly contested.

WORM BURNER UPDATE

South Australia’s star chaser Worm Burner who has built up a cult following with his outstanding performances on the track is recovering well after receiving a spider bite after his last run at Angle Park a few weeks ago. He was at the vets for 4 days before being sent home to recover. He is still on antibiotics but everything is going well. The Butchers are very hopeful greyhound fans can see the champ back racing again shortly however their main concern is his health and that seems very positive.

SA GREYHOUNDS TARGETING GROUP 1 FEATURES INTERSTATE

After the success of Worm Burner, Springvale Bryne and Fabregal on the national stage we will have more local greyhounds carrying the flag for SA in the next few weeks.

Bogie Bekim for trainer Ben Rawlings will be targeting the Group 1 Sale Cup heats on Sunday 18th December with the $75,000 to the winner final on Sunday 26th December. Bogie Bekim has won 4 of his last 5 starts and was sensational in winning over the 600m last start in a flying 34.65 at Angle Park. As a lead up he is engaged this Sunday at Sale in race 4 due to start at 6.34pm SA time and will jump from box 4.

It looks like Troy Murray has another top contender for the Silver Chief series after It’s Classified won a heat and then finished 5th in his semi final at the Meadows twelve months ago. Aston Kody is being set for the series to be run on Saturday 24th December for the heats, semi finals on 31st December and $100,000 to the winner Group 1 final on 7th January. Aston Kody fresh from his brilliant heat and final win of the Strathalbyn Cup won as he liked on Tuesday at headquarters in a flying 29.59 for the 515m journey. Troy will also consider Aston Mondo for the series that has not started in SA yet after racing in country Victoria.

XMAS NIGHT AT GAWLER ON SUNDAY – 18TH DECEMBER

All roads lead to the Northern Circuit on that night.

GRADING UPDATES

The Grading Review Panel met on Friday 11th November to discuss grading in South Australia from an Agenda provided by submissions and industry consultation during the past few months. Following is the main points introduced from 1st December 2016 -

  • The panel advised to be consistent that Grade 6 greyhounds should remain in the drawn fields so long as they were eligible at time of nomination. This would be a change for the 4 win Non SA Bred Grade 6 greyhounds and APK/APM Grade 5 wins who would have normally been withdrawn free of penalty. The panel were supportive of these greyhounds remaining eligible.
  • Pathway winners should be included on the Order of Preference. Regardless of the winners time the performance will be considered as a Country win (like Pt Augusta) and thus will sit on the Order of Preference at 13 if a last start Pathway winner.
  • The table below is in regard to a Time Standard for Masters Events at different tracks over different distances. The panel agreed to the table and advised that the same conditions for Thursday night be implemented for other meetings when a greyhound equals or breaks the Time Standard being ineligible for a Masters Event at that distance and track. Whilst they do not take a grade they have to have two unplaced runs before being considered for a Masters event.

This refers to the Grade 5 Masters events Only.

AGRC MEMBERS LUCKY DOG DRAW
Each year we have drawn 4 names for each week’s Thursday APK race 8, next to each name is the box number of the dog you have drawn in Race 8.  If your box number happens to win Race 8, you can renew your membership next year (30th June) for half price.

If you happen to own or train greyhounds racing on the date that your name has been drawn, you can choose to have your dogs drawn instead of the lucky box number and it works the same if your dog drawn happens to win.  It is up to you to notify an AGRC committee member on the night that you want to take up this option and we will randomly draw one of your dogs competing on the night. AGRC Committee members are Alan Amezdroz, Barry Stewart, Petar Jovanovic, Melissa Trowbridge, Gabe Vistolli and Gavin Harris.
