TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The big highlight of tonight’s racing is race 8 the 2016 Champion Puppy Final.  Tony Rasmussen looks to have a strong hand in this with his Rockstar duo.  Both are very smart and have drawn well for the final. We see Kennel mates Luna Jinx and Springvale Bryne clash again in the 731m in race 3 on the programme and Worm Burner going for 8 on the trot in Race 7 over the sprint.

Race 1 and we can kick off with an early winner with the well-drawn Dyna Keitaro for Ben Rawlings, he can be hit and miss on box rise but will be doing his best work over the last 100m.  The main dangers look to be Dodger I Am along with Wheel Spinner.  Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 2, tough race this one with several chances to me so it looks a good First 4 event.  Hotham Lad had handy form in Victoria and is sure to be well tried while Sophie Tyson has the draw down on the fence and has been right in the mix of late here and at Gawler.  Box Up 1.4.6.8

Race 3 is the Distance event of the night and Luna Jinx has worked back into form with 2 solid wins here in recent weeks.  She can kick up and hold the fence early from her draw of 2.  Kennel mate Springvale Bryne loves to take up the front running and skip away.  She can’t be overlooked and if there is trouble she would win.  Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 and Ray Fewings has Don’t Kid Me in fine form and he loves a rails draw, he will appreciate this grade back in the city.  Tuggeragh has pace but was checked on box rise here last week and missed a place.  He can bounce back and finish in the placings.  Flash Of Hope can run a cheeky race despite his draw of 5.  Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 5 and Mathew Payne has Mrs Bubbles flying at the moment and from box 1 tonight it is very hard to see her being beaten and she should make it 5 in a row.  Seeking Justice is dropping back to the 600m and is a must for trifecta punters, add in Sea Winds and Dashing Dee Dee for the minors.  Box Up 1.2.5.6

Race 6, the two main chances are definitely Caustic Bale and Fusaichi Kahn, both have different racing styles, the latter is a leader and the other will be rattling home over the top of them, add in Hesa Jayclo who looks a place hope.  Box Up 3.4.5.7.

Race 7, I just love watching this performer race and win and that is Worm Burner.  He has continued to miss the start in recent weeks then rounds them up down the back and wins in quick times, so he is my top pick once again.  Fabregal is the big danger she ventured over the border and saluted the judge at Sandown then missed a place there last week from box 6.  That was the first time in her career that she didn’t finish in the first 3 (35) starts. We can’t leave out Marlow Brown who looked the winner here last week everywhere bar the line when run down by Worm Burner.  Box Up 1.3.4.6

Race 8 is the Champion Puppy Final and as mentioned before the Tony Rasmussen kennel has two strong chances in Rockstar Lisa and Rockstar Swirl.  Both are litter mates and can nearly run the quinella on their last start wins.  Rockstart Lisa will start the short priced favourite on her slick 29.88 heat win from this draw and her early pace, add in Optic Blast who keeps on running into the places along with Lighting Lola for value for the First 4.  Box Up 3.4.6.8

Race 9, the Rasmussen kennel should have a race to race double with Straight Away looking a big chance out in box 6, she has been the Bridesmaid here in her last 3 starts and gets her chance to break through in this.  The main dangers look to be kennel mate Coursing Bale and the pacey Skinny Bob.  Box Up 4.6.7.8

Race 10 and Prestostella ran on well to beat Eduardo at Gawler last start in handy time, he is well drawn and should win again.  Scorching has been very disappointing of late but is a lot better than his form suggests so he can’t be dismissed as cant Rockstar Ted.  Box Up 1.5.6.7

Race 11, I can’t separate the inside four runners in this.  The Johnstone kennel can never be overlooked and can run into the placings with their runners.  Bushin Bale has early pace and is a chance of pinching this with a bit of luck. Add in Bekim Fire who loves to track wide but is very strong.  Box Up 1.2.3.4.

2016 CHAMPION PUPPY FINAL TONIGHT

After two exciting heats were conducted last Thursday night at Angle Park we have an outstanding Champion Puppy final tonight.

The first heat last week was taken out by the Tony Rasmussen trained Rockstar Swirl who had a great battle with Hairy Hairdreser before before gunning her down in the shadows of the post. Rockstar Swirl ran a handy 30.35 for the 515m journey in winning by ½ a length from Hairy Hairdreser who had led most of the way. Optic Blast rattled home into third after bombing the start and will need to improve his box manners tonight.

In the second heat again Tony Rasmussen was successful with his highly promising chaser, Rockstar Lisa who was able to show brilliant early speed and lead throughout in a slick 29.88. She is clear favourite for tonights final after drawing box 3. She defeated both Sketchy Gun and Harbison Miss who raced handy to the lead for most of the race and battled on well.

The $8,565 Champion Puppy final will be run at 9.16pm (SA time) and will be race 8 on the program with full coverage on Sky Racing 1.
